in some cases: the stack up in tolerances are tight! So if you buy a rotor on the thicker end of tolerances and pads on the thicker end of tolerances.. it gets tight quick, not to mention tolerance differences in the caliper itself over the course of a decade and multiple suppliers. Used pads certainly helps on initial install, if you have to cheat try an old pad on the outside of the rotor and a new pad on the inside as the insides always wear faster.
I bought this kit tried to install it and gave up I don't see how it physically going to fit the calipers are not wide enough for this rotor the kits just sitting in a box in my garage
@@DaleRoossienmaybe that's the only way it fits I bought this and physically could not get a stock CV caliper with pads to fit over a rotor that thick so i instead did Zach big brake upgrade kit which is the same rotors but with C5 calipers are actually wide enough to fit
Great review, I love your car, it’s rowdy!!! I wanted to correct you though on your understanding of the way a larger brake disc increases your stopping power. It’s all about the leverage or torque the brake is applying to the hub to slow it down. Plus, when you move that caliper away from the center of the spinning hub the disc it’s grabbing on to is actually spinning faster! Imagine if we both ran around a cone and you were right next to it, and I was 20’ away from the cone. In order for us to both make it around the cone together and end back up at the same point I would have to be running waaaay faster than I’d wanna! 😂 Another benefit is the larger disc size helps it absorb and dissipate heat better! Not trying to “ACTUALLY” you, just trying to help you since you’re helping us! 🍻
You're absolutely right! I understood the concept of increased leverage/friction by moving the caliper outward, but got it backwards which area was moving faster, thanks! No offence taken 😉
Someone else mentioned they had issues too, something about the Mustang rotor being a couple thousandths thicker than the CV rotor. If you use brand new pads, it might take a little violent persuasion to get the caliper on the rotor initially. I might ask Range if there's any pads in particular they recommend.

I have a 2004 Marauder I've been dabbling with the idea of a brake upgrade but I don't race it or abuse it so it would be strictly appearance and not for performance advantage. I do have the stainless brake hoses already and there's a difference in feel. I came here searching for brake upgrades because I know there's an upgrade that modifies the spindle to use Mustang parts but if I am going that far I'd spring for the Brembo parts stock on GT500's but once again can the rear be modified for fitment? I'd entertain this kit you installed and hopefully there's matching rear discs available due to front being Mustang/rears being Panther. The brakes currently on the Marauder were installed in 2016 and have 11K miles on them so they're still perfect. That's great because I'll shelf them because they fit my Town Car.
You still liking this setup? Im about to make the plunge on a budget brake setup. And this one and the c5 caliper style is what I'm looking at... i like how i can utilize the calipers i already have with the range.
I still really enjoy this setup, perfect for that extra braking I needed in AutoX. Some have reported not being able to get the calipers back over the rotors, due to the Mustang rotors being thicker. I reused my old ceramic pads, but still had to persuade the caliper a bit. Something to keep in mind...
Still a good kit for sure. The pistons in the factory calipers are actually larger than the Vette calipers, but the Vette calipers weigh considerably less. The real increase in braking efficiency comes from the larger rotor...
Awesome! IMO if I knew about this I would have done this over the c5 because the c5 caliper is barely any bigger if any bigger at all than the panther caliper lol I was comparing the brake pads when I was doing mine and they are pretty close in size so this is pretty cool and I can’t get over how torquey the merc is😂 makes me realize how unhealthy my car is and is just straight up doodie
I don't think your car is unhealthy, just have to work on those performance mods when you're able to! I honestly think my magic combination (before cams) was the 4;10 gears with the 3600 stall, it really was a night and day attitude change. Also keep in mind, I'm only on a 26" tall tire, just the change from a 28" tall tire was a huge acceleration difference too.
This was the setup at the time, sans cams of course. The car has boom tubes on it now, I'll do another video on that later. th-cam.com/video/s6K3YR6Ti0Q/w-d-xo.html
Nice job. I ordered the kit from rang industries I couldn’t get the brake pads and caliper to close down for nothing. The rotors are so thick the caliper won’t slide on with the brakes I’m lost. I’m so disappointed smh
