- In this video, I discuss my favorite vinyl record releases of the year so far. I also discuss the records that have been the biggest disappointments. These are the highlights (and low moments) of the new releases that I have bought so far this year. I discuss albums from artists such as Miles Davis, Journey, Jimi Hendrix, Harry Styles, Eric Dolphy. Adele, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bill Evans, Velvet Underground, John Coltrane, Johnny Hartman, and more.

Hi there, Melinda. Great video. You're not an old lady at all. I'm 29, not far from 30 actually, and you're not old at all to me:) Your optimism, your brightness, the way you express yourself, and your overall charm are way more endearing than you may think, and it makes you look young and I dare say beautiful, in my eyes, and I'm sure in the eyes of many others:) Bless you and yours, and take care:)
You're very kind. Thank you so much! 🤗♥️
I recently found your channel and am really enjoying it! You've got an interesting perspective in a let's be honest very male, closed off community. I did notice most of your best "new" records were repressing, etc. I fall into that trap sometimes of staying in my lane too much. Keep trying with new music, there really is some great stuff out there!
Thank you for the encouraging words. This is a very male dominated hobby but it's very rare that I am treated as anything less than an equal. Guys that collect vinyl are among the coolest. ♥️ I love discovering new music that I really like. It's so rewarding. Thank you and take care.
Another fantastic video my friend. I will need to think about my favorites so far this year
Thank you JC!
I bought the Live In Houston on pre-order very hesitantly. I never, ever do that but Journey is my favorite band. After so many disappointing new pressings my expectations weren't high. I was blown away by the sound quality. It was just like being there (again). Saw them five times that tour (including this show). Great video as always, Melinda!!!
I agree. It's a great sounding live album. It took me by surprise too. Thank you and take care.
Great stuff, Melinda. I don't have it on vinyl but one of my favorite Eric Dolphy recordings is Last Date. Played it for my folks once and a bit to my surprise they loved it. Cheers!
Thank you! I'll have to check it out. Take care.
I so agree with you on the Relaxin' With the Miles Davis Quintet. Hey most movies that have gotten poor reviews have turned out to be my personal favorites too!
Very true! We just have to go with what we enjoy and not worry about other opinions. Thank you and take care.
Hi Melinda. I really love your channel. The two reissues I bought this last month were Judas priest Sad wings of destiny on Repertoire Records from 2016, I think, and the 2LP ( with hologram ) Guns N roses Appetite for destruction which you have already mentioned on your channel. If you're into Judas Priest, this records sounds great, apart from some ticks at the end of side 1.
I don't have much from Judas Priest. That would make a great addition. 🤗 You know how I feel about that pressing of Appetite. It's the best! 😍🔥♥️ Thank you and take care.
Hi Melinda. Agreed on the Jimi UHQR 👍😎 absolutely amazing. I’ve had the dvd of the Journey Escape tour since it came out years ago. I ripped it into my computer and converted it to mp3 for my iPod, back in the early 2000’s when it wasn’t available on cd yet. I’d love to have that vinyl but was afraid of the sound quality. So thanks! I’ll get it now that it has your “seal of approval” 😊. I’m not a big fan of live albums but that one is excellent. I got my Prince and the Revolution Live set today, and let me tell you! Worth it! I feel like we’re gonna be seeing that in one of your videos soon. Take care
He ‘ s GREAT!
I have been on the fence about the Price album. I was wondering how the sound quality was on it. The Journey album sounds good for a "live" album. My expectations are a little lower on those. I have been buying so much lately but if the Prince one is still around in a couple of weeks, I will probably buy it. Thank you and take care.
@@MelindaMurphy It’s worth the $. Of course, it could’ve sounded better, had it been recorded from the soundboard. But considering the source, and most of all the screaming fans and a bit of mic distortion, it sounds pretty darn good Melinda. Obviously a piece of our history as well. Most of all, this is Prince and the Revolution at the very top of they’re game! Spot on performance. I seriously don’t think they could possibly have made this sound any better. And I Am picky about my sound, trust me! It’s actually a great listening experience, tbh. On my system it sounds like the concert is happening in my living room. Especially on the quieter slower tracks. I feel it’s worth having for any Prince fan. I had a party the other night and all my friends thoroughly enjoyed it. Just sayin 😊
Girl, you are not old. I never pulled the trigger on Adele’s 30. I streamed it also and just didn’t really connect with it. I really like her album’s 21 & 25. Maybe I need to give it another shot. One of my favorite releases this year is Miranda Lambert’s 2009 album Revolution that was released by VMP. I’m not a club member, but I had to have it. It is well done. Enjoyed the video. Have a great week.
I'm probably the oldest Harry Styles fan. Lol. His first album is so good. I wish he would return to that style. I'm in the minority I'm sure. 🤗
I love Adele 21. I should probably pick that one and 25 up. They are fantastic. I really wanted to line this new one but I just couldn't get there.
Miranda Lambert is such a cool lady. I need to check out her music. Thank you and take care.
Wonderful video. So far this year my favorite is the RSD mono release of Art Pepper Meets the Rhythm Section. Just a great listen. I have the stereo version on order for comparison. This year is not over so I hope you will do a recap at year’s end. Cheers
I agree that the Art Pepper album is amazing. I thought about including it in this video. I think the Bill Evans album took me by surprise at how good of a release it was. I knew the Pepper album was incredible before I bought it. 🔥♥️ Thank you and take care.
Just on lunch and Journey is my favorite. And stone in love is my favorite song. Great video! Lots of good vinyl.
Have a great week.🙂👍
Stone In Love is a wonderful song. I saw Journey a few years back and was hoping they would play that song. I was so excited when they did. Thank you and take care.
My favorites so far this year have been the new Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mark Knopfler's box set, Slash 4 to name a few. Slash 'Live at studio 60' from RSD June drop sounds phenomenal. I also got Pearl Jam's 'Live on 2 legs' but the first minute or so of side one is noisy. I tried another copy and it had the same defect. Prince's 'The Gold Experience' is fabulous! Great video Melinda.
I should be receiving my Prince The Gold Experience soon. I can't wait to hear it. ♥️🤗 I didn't know Slash had a new release. Very cool. Thank you and take care.
Great video. My favs - the VMP release of "The low end theory" by A Tribe Called Quest and the new 45rpm of Rumors. Disappointments- "Dance Fever" Florence & the Machine on Grey vinyl ( the grey says it all) & "Francis the Mute" by The Mars Volta on glow in the dark vinyl. Hey, at least these albums LOOK amazing..
I think I want to stay away from gray vinyl. Lol. The Fleetwood Mac album is one of the best sounding records in my collection. ♥️ Thank you and take care.
Hi Melinda. The MOFI reissue of Electric Light Orchestra’s Eldorado is just absolutely fantastic both musically and sonically. I am a fan of ELO’s 70s output and this one ranks as their best. I was blown away by the sound quality, and the orchestral accompaniment really comes through in the MOFI remastering. Highly Recommended!
I do have that one and it was a contender for this video. It's a beautiful release. It's going to be made as a One Step but I'm perfectly happy with this Super Vinyl version. Thank you and take care.
Great buys !!!!love the live Bill Evans....I have my copy and it sounds great !!! ....I have an original of You must believe in Spring that I bought years ago New seal on 33 rpm....I don't have the Jimi Hendrix been sitting on the fence for that one....enjoy them all !!!! Ed in New York....😎🌄🌧🎶🎵🎶
Thank you! The original of You Must Believe in Spring would be fantastic! I love Bill Evans as well. ♥️ Thank you and take care.
So far, I’m very happy with the Rush Moving Pictures 40th anniversary vinyl. The included 4 record live set is amazing, well performed and recorded. A new artist for me is Tame Impala. I just picked up the Innerspeaker on vinyl and have been impressed. Another favorite, although I think it was 2021, is the 45 rpm version of Eva Cassidy’s live at Blues Alley. Sounds amazing.I may have to pick up the Journey live album you mentioned. While on the topic of live albums, I’ve also enjoyed Yes’s Live at Glastonbury Festival (although 2020 release)…. Great classic songs well performed and sounds really good on vinyl.
Thanks for the heads up about these wonderful albums - especially the Yes album. I have listened to Tame Impala because my daughter likes them. Very good. Thank you and take care.
I had been contemplating whether or not to buy the "Journey Live in Houston 1981" vinyl album since I really enjoy the CD version, but was concerned that the recording on vinyl might be disappointing. Thanks for letting us know that it sounds great. I just ordered one for myself based on your recommendation. Steve Perry is from my hometown, a small farming town in central California. In fact, the radio station depicted on the cover of Journey's "Raised On Radio" album is located just down the street from the elementary school I went to as a child. That radio station used to be owned by Steve Perry's parents.
Oh wow! Thank you for that fascinating information about the album cover. What an interesting story. Please let me know what you think of the concert on vinyl. I really enjoy it. I hope you will too. ♥️ Thank you and take care.
Hello Melinda ! More unlistened music for us, from you. We like that. A’s favourite this year , most likely , is ”Danger danger” , she says. Mine is D-A-D’s ”Psychopatico”. It arrived TODAY , so I’m a little bedazzled in my music preferences at the moment , hahaha.
Take care /A&R.
I'm so glad your favorite album of the year arrived today. Sweet! I'm glad A has a favorite as well. Thank you and take care.
How funny is it that I just got home with the "Journey Live in Houston 1981" from the big box store and that is the first album of your review! I guess my "vinyl corner" will go to work after this video.
That's a cool coincidence! I hope you enjoy it. 😀♥️
I was honestly surprised how good sounding the new RHCP album was, but it makes sense given that some people in the band seem to be into high end home audio.
I could be wrong but I thought I had read that they recorded this record with audiophiles in mind. The vinyl version does sound great. I'm so glad I gave this album a chance. Thank you and take care.
One of my favorite buys I owe to you I could not afford the slaughter box sets but I did get both albums by there self and got fear no evil and love it can't wait till the other one comes in. Thanks.
I'm glad to hear that. The regular release of Fear No Evil by Kiss My Wax is gorgeous. 😳
I’d love to get the Journey Escape live album. I’ve picked up so many albums this year! So far the Leon Bridges gold album and Harry Styles Harry’s house have been sounding good on my system. I recently received Alan Parsons project , eye in the sky mofi 45rpm pressing. It’s fantastic!! Although I have a sonic maximizer model 462 by BBE electronics. It’s patched between the power amplifier and preamplifier of my system. Let’s just say…it’s steroids for your system😁 You’re looking well! Awesome video my friend! I hope to get Prince Gold album I’m my library soon. Take care!
I have a friend that bought the MoFi Eye in the Sky release and so he gave me the Speakers Corner version of that album. I'm sure the MoFi version sounds amazing. Hopefully, the Speakers Corner version is good too. Harry's House does sound good. Thank you and take care.
@@MelindaMurphy The mofi does sound amazing! Especially when it’s cut at 45rpm!
Cheers Melinda, I see that your record purchases are focusing on reissues for the most part. That's a good place to be. As always, you manage to find some nice records. You an old lady? I doubt that anyone who watches your channel regularly sees you that way, certainly not me. You just like classic music. There is a lot to be said for it, and there are great recordings to chase. Music also holds a great deal of nostalgic value to you. It reminds you of your family, loves, friends, and youth. There's nothing wrong with that, but when you hear new artists performing the music we love, especially young people, it just warms your heart, and you just love how they're loving great music along with you. It makes it feel like you're not just loving music in the history books. It really gives me a charge to hear the young artists playing new music in all kinds of genres. The best part is being able to see really good bands live; you don't get any more audiophile than that. My favorite acquisitions this year are The Doors' 45 rpm Morrison Hotel and LA Woman AP/QRP albums, and I must agree with you, the Jimi Hendrix AYE UHQR. We're in 100% agreement on the Hendrix UHQR. It's releases like this UHQR that make vinyl record collecting supremely exciting! 👍👍👍 By the way, I saw that Record Collector newspaper with KISS on the cover. That cover would make a great thing to put on a dart board or in the bird cage! 🤣
Haha! The bird cage comment was good. 😀 You got me! I agree about live music. There's nothing better than that. I have those Doors albums as well and they are fantastic. It took a long time but I now have all of the AP Doors releases. The Jimi Hendrix UHQR is fantastic. I only dare to dream that eventually we will get a Pink Floyd UHQR. 🤗♥️ I may not be really old but I am probably one of the oldest Harry Styles fans. 😀 Thank you for making me feel young. Take care.
@@MelindaMurphy I'd like to get more of The Doors 45's from AS. I heard a rumor (unconfirmed) that AP/QRP may release a UHQR mono version of The Doors debut album. Now that would be very exciting indeed! 😻 Just the mention of a Pink Floyd UHQR from AP/QRP makes my mouth water and my hands sweat. 😻 That would be very sweet indeed! It's the music that keeps you young , Melinda. You take care as well! 👍💖🎸😎
Hey Melinda! Enjoyed the video.
My rule of thumb with most every album is to stream before I purchase. I will usually stream at least twice in a week of an album Im not familiar with. Im a big believer in living with an album for a bit to really decide if I like it. $25-35 bucks is too much to throw around any longer to take the chance.
There are some artists like Dylan I purchase blind if he has a new title, but those are very few artists I do that with.
Plus I find it fun to listen to many different albums in a month and then narrow say 20 albums that I had never listened to down to 5-10 albums. Then Ill choose maybe 3-5 from that as my cream of the crop.
Kind of a quality over quanity approach.
Favorite release? Hmmm wow, that is a tough one. I would have to say Im going to cheat a little lol.
My favorite "releases" would be by far the AP Prestige mono re-releases. That has been my wish come true for the year.
I hope you get your Van Halens soon! Im definitely looking forward to the first album as a One Step 👍🏻
I think the way you check out new music is very smart. That's what I usually do as well unless the artist is a favorite such as Dylan or VH. I can't wait for that One Step. I hope we both love it. Thank you and take care.
I recently bought Lady in Satin by Billie Holliday, The Best of Fats Domino, and a record by Ella Fitzgerald with two songs Mack The Knife recorded in Berlin in 1960 and 1962. I’m a man in my early 50’s; you look very nice and present yourself well. I love your videos. I collect lps, cd’s and digital downloads from I tunes.❤️❤️
Those records are outstanding. Holiday and Fitzgerald are two of my daughter's favorite artists. ♥️ I'm so glad you said hello. Thank you for the kind words of encouragement. 🤗 Take care.
I just got my journey escape live 1981 album today! I haven’t had a chance to listen to it yet, but it couldn’t have come at a better time! I was having a really crappy day. So glad to hear you got this one, in my opinion Escape was their best album with Frontiers being a close second. I haven’t been expecting the recording to be that good as I was somewhat disappointed with the sound of the CD. I am glad to hear from your review that the sound is good. I hope as time goes on they will release more of these gems. Especially some of their older albums!
Do you think there’s any chance you will pick up the new Def Leppard album? This is another band that was really hitting it big around the same time. If you do pick up the new Def Leppard album I would really love to hear your commentary.
I should probably stream the new album to decide if I want the record. I do like supporting older bands when they put out new music. 🤗 I hope you enjoy the Journey album. It's always a better day when we get a new record. Take care.
Aloha Melinda,
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on these record albums. I just ordered Jimi Hendrix's UHQR. I was debating on this one, since I all ready have that recording in other Vinyl formats but after watching 👀 your video I decided to pull the trigger on this one. Not sure why It took me so long to buy it. Jimi Hendrix was always my favorite go to guitarist in the late 60's & early 1970's, I even recall having blacklite posters of him, when I was in the 10th grade lol ... thanks for this video, now 5 months from now I won't regret not buying this UHQR of Jimi Hendrix ARE YOU EXPERIENCED.
Mahalo Ed
I don't think you will ever regret buying this UHQR. It's not cheap but if you love Hendrix then you will treasure this release. Please let me know your thoughts about it when you get it.
Mahalo! ♥️🤗🌞
Another fun video! My favorite release so far this year is pretty easy it's "Once Twice Melody" by Beach House, they are a dream pop duo formed in Baltimore in 2008, "Once Twice Melody" is their 8th album and in my humble opinion it is a masterpiece, it consists of 4 chapters and is a very beautiful record to listen to, I highly recommend it. Also The Gold Experience by Prince, is fantastic from start to finish I think you will enjoy that one too, thanks for another informative video, Peace!
I did buy The Gold Experience and am hoping to get it this week! I'm looking forward to hearing it. I have seen Beach House records on the shelves when I shop. Thank you for the recommendation. Take care.
First off, I’m so glad to FINALLY hear someone tell the truth about Harry Styles new record. Plus, I totally agree with you on Adele’s latest. I completely enjoyed this video. My favorite of the year so far is “Unlimited Love” by the Chili Peppers. Great sound and music from these legends. “The Gold Experience” is pretty awesome too. Plus, The Police Greatest Hits on half speed master is a joyous listen as well. So awesome to see you doing well and going strong, my beautiful music friend. Take care! 😎❤️🙏
Unlimited Love is excellent in sound and in quality of the music. They are still awesome! It hurt to say I was disappointed with the Harry Styles album. It's not bad but it's definitely a step down for me. Thank you and take care.
Hello Melinda, My favorite album this year so far is Eagles Live At The Forum '76 Mastered by Bob Ludwig and cut by Chris Bellman excellent sounding vinyl, Collective Soul Disciplined Breakdown Mastered by Cohearent Audio Cut by Kevin Gray dead silent punchy sounds fantastic so glad I got it for RSD but their first album is still my favorite Hints and Allegations.
Thanks for the suggestions. I need to get that Eagles album at some point before it's out of print. I have heard it's terrific. Take care.
I bought the new Miles Davis "Relaxin' " limited edition album direct from Craft Recordings, which is a 'one-step' pressing like the Mofi's and pressed by the same company RTI. I was very disappointed in the pressing quality. There were too many ticks and pops which cleaning didn't remove. I contacted Craft with my concerns and sent them sound files. They couldn't hear anything wrong. This went on for a couple of weeks and then they quit responding to my emails. I started a new case and not only did I send them sound files, but I also sent them pictures of the graph of the part in issue. The particular track I had issues with was "Woody 'n You". At the very end, when they start talking, there were disturbing pops. I also sent the before and after sound files and graphs where I was able to remove most of the pops through a processing program. This time they couldn't deny my issue existed as I had captured it in both sight and sound.
Their responded that all they could do was to send me a new copy of the record, but not the whole package. I told them that a new record was all I wanted, there was nothing wrong with anything else. They sent me a new record in a sealed album cover. The new copy I received was acceptable.
In the meantime, just for the heck of it, I ordered a copy of their previous Prestige-Fantasy OJC-190 release. To me, it sounds alot better than their 'limited' version. If you want to hear a version which I feel beats them all, it's the DCC-Jazz GZS-1052 gold CD. Steve Hoffman did an excellent re-mastering job.
I was pleased with the UHQR Hendrix "Are You Experienced". It was excellent and didn't have any defects!
I don't know if you got a copy, but I got a copy of the "Scream Original Motion Picture Soundtracks 1-4", limited edition on color vinyl. It is probably the worst pressing quality of anything I've received in a long time. I got a replacement and it was almost as bad with too many ticks and pops. I don't recommend this album and gave it a bad review on Amazon.
Thank you for all your great videos!
I didn't buy the Scream box set but I did think it looked interesting. That would be so disappointing. 😕
My copy of Relaxin' sounds great to my ears. I haven't heard the Hoffman version but how could it be bad? Thank you and take care. .
Pretty good review/video. I thought I was the only one who didn’t care for the latest Adele’s album, too much whining for my taste. Although, I had bought 19 and 21 when they just came out and before becoming hits, I loved both. I’m fond of Hartman/Coltrane album, like the Tony/Evans album, both are great. Your collection is becoming rich with excellent music.
Thank you for the kind words. I have enjoyed Adele in the past but this album just wasn't as good as the others in my opinion. Every artist has varying levels of success. I'm hoping the next one is better. Thank you and take care.
about 20 years ago i bought the boxed set of the complete output of bill evans on verve which was on cd.verve should license out this same set on audiophile vinyl--------a breath taking concept.
I would be on board for that. Analog Productions is probably going to repress the Bill Evans Riverside albums but it's going to be expensive. 😯 No doubt either set would be incredible. 😀 Thank you and take care.
I really like the Adele 30. It is a favorite of my daughter and mine. In fact, I going to put it on right now. 3 x platinum so far in the USA. Thanks again!
I know many people do enjoy it. She's a fabulous talent. Thank you and take care.
On the spot reporting as always, thanks. I have taken note of the Hendrix " Are you Experienced? " suggestion. Nothing new here, but if you don't have anything by Kate Bush get yourself a copy of " Hounds of Love ". I think with a mess load of scratches in it Kate would still come through. Take it easy.
I do need some Kate Bush in the collection. Thank you for the suggestion. Take care. ♥️🤗
Hi Melinda - I forget that Greg Rolie left Journey in 1980 after Departure - Loved him & Steve in harmony for three albums. Velvet Underground 🍌 is an all time favorite & is not particularly well Produced which is part of its charm. Happy Summer ☀️
Rollie left Santana in 74 to join Journey! Velvet Underground didn’t want any kind of slick recording sound . When they came out the critics hated them . I only knew 2 people that listened to them , myself & my late brother.
Rollie was wonderful in Journey but Escape hit at the right moment for me. I had just entered middle school. Open Arms was played at all of the school dances and the memories are so great. I'm glad that I bought this Velvet Underground album. Now I understand what all of the fuss is about. 😃 Thank you and take care.
Hey Melinda. I will have to check out that live Journey album. The older bands are not the only ones using backing tracks which is pretty sad. Some newish bands use them along with other trickery in the studio recordings. Music is not what it used to be unfortunately, although you can find some real good new bands if you search them out (time consuming)
🍇🍊🍉🍒 Here is some more fruit for ya 😄
I really do need to discover some new bands. How about you form one? That would make it easy. 🤗 Thank you for the extra fruit. Maybe you could do a collaboration with Harry Styles.😃 The Journey concert is really good and brings back a million memories.♥️ Thank you and take care.
I have an LP that most folks haven't heard of before but it is one of my favorite albums from my youth and it's extremely well recorded. It's from 1964 on RCA, a "DYNAGROOVE" recording. I saw "Bye Bye Birdie" when I was a young teenager with Ann Margret and I got quite a crush on her at the time, I was smitten! Anyways, I found an album from her back then called, "Beauty and the Beard" that she made together with Al Hirt, he was really popular jazz, trumpet player back in the mid 60s! I wore the album out through the years and found another one on eBay at a great price a few years ago. It was pressed in Mono and Stereo and I can say, that having both in the past, the stereo is the best sounding version. This album is great, entertaining and really fun to listen to, the songs are fantastic. The sound quality is off the charts, sounds like it was recorded today, RCA had great recordings with the "DYNAGROOVE" process, it was their best quality pressings back in then. I looked and saw a few on eBay recently, it's a sleeper that a lot of folks never heard of before but it is one you'll really enjoy having and listening to. Since no one really knows of this album, the price is not bad at all, I would highly recommend it for sure. Love your channel!
Dynagroove was actually computer harmonic distortion added to the recording process around 63 or 64!
I have the Al Hirt & Ann M. Lp! Sounds Great!
Oh wow! I recently saw an Ann Margaret record. I wonder if it was the one you're talking about. She's beautiful. 🤗 Thank you and take care.
Happy Tuesday Melinda
Happy Tuesday!
Taco Tuesday!
We missed spring here in Texas too. Not sure why online it only says in the 90s all June, but we've had days over 100, even 110 days.
The humidity is so unbearable along with the heat. I don't think my flowers can take another week of this. 🥲 Try to stay cool. Take care.
Melinda, been subscriber to you for short time, just wondering if you like I did bought a LP and went yeah... OK. Then somewhile later got in to that groupe, band, other. Played that record again, and went...WOW!!!! Mine was T- Rex TANX.
Believe it or not, I spent most of my life thinking that way about The Beatles. 😳 I respected them but until I started listening to the albums instead of just singles, I never really "got it." I'm so glad I changed my mind. Thank you and take care.
Your Drum Rolls are the best! I was disappointed with Adele also. I love the Journey live Target version. Have a great day.
Haha! I'm not sure they are the best but I appreciate the kindness. Thank you.
Regarding Bill Evans, I have noticed in multiple videos of yours you have stated the name of the label as being Renaissance Records. However, the label is actually Resonance Records.
Well I hate that I'm saying it wrong. They are very similar words. Hopefully, someone will look up the record by the title and artist and not search by label. I will try not to repeat the error. Thank you and take care.
Makes sense that the Jimi Hendrix would be your favorite because it’s already a stone cold classic and to add that treatment to it? Heck yeah! I wasn’t going to get the Journey live album and now you have me reconsidering it😊. Wow it’s tough naming favorite releases I’ve bought this year, but here’s a few: the latest from Saxon, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and Ally Venable.
My wife really loves Adele and she wasn’t thrilled with her latest album either. I laughed at you calling yourself an old lady. Come on! Another great episode! Have a wonderful evening.
Gary
Thank you! I would guess I'm one of the older Harry Styles fans. 😃 Give the Journey album a listen before you purchase it but I love it. It's so nostalgic. ♥️ The Hendrix UHQR is the best and for the money, it should be. 😃 Take care.
physical mary chapin and emmylou coming here next week may go dont know yet may meet friend there hope can go always liked harrys sledgehammer cover on.bbc music
@@marktait2371 That would be a great show! I would really love to see those two on the same bill. I hope you’re able to go Mark.
I'm looking for a Miles Davis Witches Brew one-step also I seem to spoil myself coming from the generation of the old Sears silvertone turntables with snap crackle and pop I'm not going to tell my God daughter your review of the Harry Styles album great video and cheers
Haha! Most people do love that Harry Styles album. Maybe it will grow on me. That Miles Davis One Step is going to be amazing. I can't wait for it to be released. Thank you and take care.
I’d have to look over my list of new releases, but I the 45rpm Rumours got a repressing earlier this year and that for me is the best one so far. Regarding your list, the Journey album was first released in 2005 on CD, I will have to give that a spin again, I do recall it being very good. I agree with you about the Adele album. She did two concert specials for that album, one concert was in L.A., the other was in London. The London show aired here several months later. I liked the songs in that setting, particularly “I Drink Wine” (I think that’s the name of it). But like you, I streamed the album and it actually put me to sleep. The Harry Styles album I really like, and I (as a 51 year old man, am the farthest from his target audience). I heard him do a couple song on Howard Sterns show and bought the album, I like it.
I had never really like Jimi Hendrix, but kept seeing reviews for the “Are You Experienced” release, I didn’t get that but did get the standard reissue, and that is indeed a great album. Lastly, do get Prince’s “The Gold Experience”, the RSD release is really great.
I am waiting for the Prince "The Gold Experience" album to arrive. I look forward to hearing it. 🤗♥️ I'm not exactly in the Harry Styles age category either but I'm still a fan. His first album is one of my favorites. This one isn't bad it just doesn't hit me the way the first one did. I doubt he loses any sleep over that. 😀 Thank you and take care.
great video my friend and has always great collection..
Hey Curtis! Thank you!!!
"Enough with the fruit." 🤣🤣🤣
That made me LOL!
Haha! It's the truth. 😉
I am an avid fan of your channel and I’m hoping one day you will embrace the genius of Albert Ayler. Knowing your aversion to free jazz it’s probably highly unlikely to happen, but I feel it’s a taste worth acquiring. And maybe it’s not too big a leap. After all, European Son on The Velvet Underground and Nico is not exactly “easy listening.”
I'm open to listening to Albert Ayler. I have some free jazz in my collection. I just prefer music with more of a melody. 😀
Love your channel, hate flaps on sleeves!
Thank you! I understand but I dislike the sticky tape even more. 😀 The flaps are easier for me. Thank you and take care.
Melinda, first I really enjoy your channel. I have followed your hunt for an original Odessey and Oracle. I recently purchased one for my self. Im curious to know why you aimed for the US version instead of the UK CBS? Is there a specific reason like its easier to obtain a US version in the US or if its a difference in quality?
Hey there! What a great album. I would have been thrilled with a UK pressing and would buy one if I saw it for the right price. I thought the US version was hard enough to find in good shape. The UK version is a little like a unicorn here in the US. Lol.
Sixpence None the Richer - A Beautiful Mess is my favorite buy this year. It surprised me how great it sounded especially from a label I never heard of. Also Patsy Cline - Showcase from Vinyl Me Please is an amazing album.
I need to check out an album from VMP. I hear they do a great job. Patsy Cline was wonderful. Solid choice.😃 I haven't heard anything about Sixpence None the Richer in a long time. I'm glad they are still making good music. Thank you and take care.
Hey Melinda, thanks for the recommendations. I’m 100% with you on Adele. Total self indulgent junk. Could an artist be more cynical with her fans?
I really wanted to like the album. 😕
May have gotten it last year but I like Lindsey Buckingham's self-titled 2021 album. I'm picking up his other solo work. Fleetwood Mac's Dreams: what a contribution Buckingham makes to that song. The Chili Peppers. Always red hot. Thanks.
I need to check out that Lindsey Buckingham album. I will stream it on my way to work tomorrow. Thank you for bringing it up. 😃 I really like Buckingham. ♥️ Take care.
Hey Melinda! The Miles Davis title is French. Here’s a bit of info on it from Wikipedia.
Filles de Kilimanjaro (French for Girls of Kilimanjaro) is a studio album by American jazz trumpeter Miles Davis.
All of the song titled are French as well.
It's a wonderful album! I will work on my French. 🤗♥️ Take care.
Dennis deyoungs desert moon made my day when i got it for €5 on vinyl 2 weeks ago, i have only seen it on sale once in last 35 years so i had 2 have it as a styx fan
I love that song! That was a great find. I don't see that album out in the wild like I used to. Enjoy! ♥️
The last record I bought was actually this month, it was Alison Moyet- Alf
Not sure if you ever heard of her, but you might know her by the song "Love Resurrection". But that record along with my Go West record sounds as I would describe as "Surface Level" , like it just doesn't have as much Bass as my other ones do. But my best sounding one is my Breathe-All That Jazz record and second to that my Phil Collins- No Jacket Required. I still enjoy collecting them, but I know sometimes it STILL feels like there's more cons in record collecting than pros.
1. Buying equipment to play them can get expensive
2. Records are limited and you must act now to get them at a reasonable price
3. If your house burned down you would lose all your records, and it would take a lifetime to replace
4. they WILL be destroyed eventually from just playing them
5. Some of these records sound like trash while others are good, but they take a lot of research and finding out if they do or not
6. You have to buy stuff to protect and maintain records to keep them in good shape
7 . You have to spend money on equipment to just clean them
My only Pros....
1. They are fun to collect for some reason
2. Distortion makes them sound good for some reason
But yet..... I'm probably going to buy another record this month ....go figure
Haha! They are expensive and very impractical! But I love them. ♥️😃 Thanks for sharing those pros and cons. I can definitely relate.
dude hilarious i agree hard to believe i have an allyson solo record on cassete and 8os comp with only you friend dj.played move out situation countless times dont know if shes still singing vince clark.probably so believe hes a big time producer now
I laughed out loud when you said enough with the fruit. He (Harry) sings about fruit alot. You don't hear that comment too often in record reviews. :)
Haha! No, you don't hear someone say that every day but it's true with his music. 😀 Thank you and take care.
Hi, My favorite release so far this year is Bonnie Raitt's Just Like That. The songs are bluesy, her voice still brings it, and it's pressed on teal vinyl. Who could ask for more?
Sounds great to me. 🤗♥️
That's my fav Coltrane album. Reminds me of a dark fall night with the last of the brown leaves falling. The day before I met my to be wife I heard the song lyrics "you leave your house one morning and without any warning..."
That's a wonderful memory attached to a wonderful album. ♥️
My fav album is Mark Knopfler’s Shangri-la, love the story lyrics and a great pressing. Closely followed by T-Rex - Electric Warrior on the “Fly” label. Some great choices you have there Melinda. 👌
The T Rex album is sooo cool! 😍 Good for you. I only know Mark from Dire Straits. I will have to check out this solo album. Thank you for the suggestion!
MKs solo stuff is another level
I also like Relaxin' by the Miles Davis Quintet. The only thing I don't like is the ribbon to pull out the record. It tore apart the inner leaflet.
Oh no! The string is very helpful until it tears apart. 😕 The album is fantastic! Thank you and take care.
How did I miss the Journey release! I"ve been able to collect all the original albums in great condition and I definitely want the Journey live album. What is your go to source for finding out when new vinyl is being released? I always seem to miss the good stuff
I hate to admit it but I don't have a solid source when it comes to new releases. I think I saw the Journey release on a channel called The Flip Side. The guy is JC and he does videos about upcoming releases. I hope that helps. Take care.
@@MelindaMurphy Thanks
I'm really enjoying your channel. You are so pleasant to listen to and I've learned alot!
@@MelindaMurphy One more question. I see that the Journey album is available in red and white or just black. What is your opinion on which may be more collectible/ worth more? Did you buy the red and white because you.liked the colors better or for which will be more desirable later on? ( side note" I was surprised to see that people are already reselling these in Ebay for as much S60.00 when both colors are still available at Target for regular price)
Where in the world are the end of June springtime? Its the middle of summer here in Sweden...
The day that video was filmed with the last day of spring and we had been experiencing 100 ° days for over a week.
There is a 2012 Cohearant Audio/RTI pressed Sketches Of Spain still easy to find new for $20. Sounds good.
My biggest disappointment of the year is Neil Young's 'Barn'. Like you, I streamed it and didn't buy it after hearing. I feel that a good honest friend would have told him not to tarnish his legacy by releasing that album... it just sounds low effort, no real thought... like a bunch of guys in a Garage Band making stuff up on the spot.
Thank goodness we can stream an album before we buy it. 😀 I haven't heard the new Young album but thanks for the warning. Lol. Thank you and take care.
Eric Dolphy's music is a bit "out there" for me but the Everest label in the 1960's released a good sounding LP of very accessable music by Eric Dolphy. (Two fifteen minute? songs-- "Jitterbug Waltz" and another song. My collection is elsewhere.) Everest sold many records at a budget price. Today they are fairly easy to find at a very reasonable price. I love the recordings.
I'm sure I would love them too. I do see the Everest label and have always wondered if it was a good label. Thank you for the suggestion. Take care.
Eric Dolphin - Out To Lunch - if you have not gotten this, try it
I did buy the recent reissue. It's wonderful. Thank you and take care.
My favourite new albums of the year are;
49 Winchester ~ Fortune Favors The Bold.Great country rock.
Ian Noe ~ River Fools and Mountain Saints.Folk/country
Saxon ~ Carpe Diem.Old school classic British Heavy Metal.
Shovels & Rope ~ Manticore.Roots rock.
Willie Nelson ~ A Beautiful Time.Willie !
Reissues (all Jazz)
Kenny Dorham ~ Matador.Impex.Amazing album,amazing sound
Brother Jack McDuff ~ Moon Rappin'.Blue Note Classic.Funky stuff and one of the best sounding records this year.
Jackie McLean ~ Tippin' The Scales.BN Tone Poet.
Duke Ellington Meets Coleman Hawkins.Accoustic Sounds.
Gerald Wilson Big Band ~ Moment Of Truth.BN Tone Poet
My only disappointment was The Delines ~ The Sea Drift.Good album but the record has a song missing !
Its printed on the sleeve, the label and lyric sheet but only appears on CD version.
I bought a OJC version of Out There just last week and I agree what a fantastic record.
Matador and Brother Jack McDuff almost made the cut. They are fantastic and sound great. ♥️ You have some wonderful choices on here. Thank you for sharing. Take care.
👋 Melinda!
I agree with you regarding Harry Styles and Adele‘s recent albums. I’ve never really been a big fan of styles but I do enjoy Adele. I have 25 on vinyl and love it! I also don’t really care for Nina Simone‘s style.
I love Harry's first album so much. I would love for him to return to that style again someday. I'm glad to know someone else shares my opinion of Nina Simone. I respect her as an artist but her style isn't for me. Thank you and take care.
@@MelindaMurphy Yah, I just can't get into Harry Styles for some reason. Guess I'm jus getting too old. :) I also do respect Nina Simone even tho her style is not for me.
Seems like your turning into a jazz junky Melinda. Great stuff
I am definitely into jazz. ♥️
@@MelindaMurphy it is wonderful. Mostly what I collect if you look at all my videos
My favorite release was last years Elvis Christmas on white vinyl from Target! Sounds as good if not better than the original.
I will have to pick up an Elvis Christmas album later this year. Hopefully that one will be released again. Thank you and take care.
I think Harry's debut is still his best, while I really love Harry's House and what he's done with it, HS1 is still his best! I love how Harry's House combines modern pop with 70's funk and 80's synth-pop. It is my album of the year...so far that is!
I understand why you enjoy it so much! I like it too. I just really loved that first album and his musical style has changed since then. I think I'm in the minority on this. Lol. Take care.
Hi Melinda. My fave album of the year to date is: We by Arcade Fire! OMG it is so good. I suggest you stream it and give it two listens. Also great is: The Tipping Point by Tears For Fears, however I have it on Green Grass vinyl which I cannot get it clean enough to stop the snap crackle and pops. I have the UHQR Jimi and yes, it is fantastic!
I bought it a few months ago ( TFF) lp on colored vinyl. The music is really good but lacks a little in the dynamics.
So many people have recommended the Tears For Fears album. I do need to check Arcade Fire out. Thank you for the wonderful recommendations. Take care.
hello beautiful melinda. journey a great live band ; Steve perry truly ine of the most amazing singers in rock. glad you're doing better 👍
Thank you! 🤗♥️ Perry is an incredible singer. He could hit those high notes with such ease. Take care.
@@MelindaMurphy you too beautiful 👍
It’s 98 here right now. I just did some watering but, it’s blazing hot here in Detroit.
It was pretty warm here too. It's not as bad as it was last week but my poor flowers are looking rough. Thank you and take care.
I Like Miles Davis Fusion Era...1969 Early 1970s...
Agree! Started with In a silent way (ground breaking)! Bitches Brew is way out there and I love it !
@@jackwezesa1081 Precisely...I Finally Have Bitches Brew In CD That I Purchased During Christmastime 2020...
I do too! I love that his style changed throughout the years. I enjoy it all. Thank you and take care.
@@ELPCOTILLION-SD1970 I still play my 1970 original pressing when I ‘m in the right mood. Expensive album when it came out ( $4.98 ) !!!!!
Hey MM, we’ve been 100+ for3 w now and no end in sight! Which Bill Evans album would you recommend for a first for me to get? I had that journey on cd does the vinyl sound better? I was at both shows, Loverboy opened at the now Lakewood church. Your far from an ol’ lady btw. ☮️❤️
Getting a live album on vinyl when you already have the CD is a tough call. If you like the CD, then I would probably spend my money on another release. I have never had this Journey concert before and I really enjoy it. The sound quality is great for a live album.
I would start with Waltz For Debby but all of Bill Evans albums are wonderful. The ones that are available now are the ones to pick up. 😀 Thank you and take care.
Adele's 30 album is everywhere here... most stores have them stacked upon stacks.. (20 or more copies) I have 3 Walmarts and 2 targets here, and you can find 20+ copies of it and each store... My favorite release of the year so far is Pearl Jam Live On 2 Legs...
That Pearl Jam album is one of the most popular RSD releases this year. I'm glad you got a copy. 🤗
I think they may have went a little overboard with the Adele release. Thank you and take care.
For me both Bill Evans RSD are highlights and probably the rerelease of Bill Evans At The Montreux Jazz Festival I'd my favorite so far.
The Jazz Festival album is terrific. I'm not sure Bill Evans had a bad performance or made a bad album. 😍
I've got most of these and you look gorgeous 🥰
Thank you! 🤗 I'm glad you have all of these worthy records. Take care.
Got Honk by Rolling Stones on amazon.Thats the last time i get any vinyl on amazon again. All the tracks from fool to cry to Angie and the others have sound defects. It was too late to send it back when i found out.I`m fuming because i liked the record.
It's a wonderful record. I'm so sorry the record had so many issues. 😕
Although I Purchased It Last Year~My Stand Out LP Is: RUSH/2112...It's The First NEW LP I've Purchased Since The Early 1980s...Not Counting The Preowned LPs I Purchased From The Flea Market...Cause I Love Progressive Rock And Songs That Plaster An Entire Side Of The Record...
That Rush album is great. ♥️
hi your looking good! do you know the young bloods, i just found it earlier on today you might like it bit like Dylan style but better lol 🤗
I do know The Youngbloods. They were a great band. Their records are hard to find in clean condition. 🤗♥️ Good for you!
I have to comment on the whole "Adele caused other vinyl album releases to be delayed' rumor that is going around. This has been something that was started by a couple of vinyl reviewers and not too many people bothered to check the 'facts'. The delays at the pressing plants are nothing new and were not caused by Adele or Adele alone. Delays have been an issue before Adele's LP due to the sudden popularity of vinyl again. Add that to shortage of PVC and shipping issues, it was an accumulation of everything. Pressing plants around the world have the capacity to manufacture about 160 million albums a year and current demand for vinyl more than doubles that. So, at most, Adele’s 500,000 units that were ordered would've amounted to only 0.3% of the total vinyl records manufactured last year. So, no, Adele did not cause any of the delays and that blame was just the usual rumor crap that tends to get played out in social media. As far as her LP 30, it's still has sold over 1.5 million copies. So, even though it's not her most successful LP, it still has been incredibly successful. I had to listen to it a couple of time because I too found it very different to her previous albums. But, if you give it a chance you may change your mind. Instead of rehashing the same type of music as before, she made a more personal and different style album in many ways. It's more mature. I actually think it is probably one of her best right below 25. The vinyl sounds fantastic too. Thanks for your video.
Adele is a huge artist. She does get top priority and it's deserved. I know of someone that works for a pressing plant and her album did "jump" the line so to speak. That's the way life goes. I just personally don't care for the album. That's just me. Everything she touches turns to gold so it was definitely a success. Thank you and take care.
My daughter agrees with you about Harry Styles. He doesn’t even register for me. Stacks of Adele 30 out here Southern California. Definitely over supplied. Cheers
It's good to hear that someone agrees with me about Harry's House. Maybe it will grow on me. I want to like it. Thank you and take care.
I love half speed mastering from Abby road got the police collection except the bonus one
I have the half speed mastered box set and it's terrific. 🤗♥️
That is where I get my sleeve as well.
They are so wonderful. 😍
Yeah I was almost into Harry Styles after always seeing his record at stores and finally listening to it, then streamed new album and was too poppy lol, but the Adele 30 is really good and would reconsider😌👌
Harry Styles is my favorite so far this year.
If you are ever interested, check out Harry Styles' self-titled album. It's one of my favorites. Sign of the Times is a beautiful song. The new one is more of a pop album. Thank you and take care.
@@tturner12341 I took another listen through streaming and I like the upbeat vibe it has, starting to reconsider 🤔🤘
@@leonsam12 yes, at first I wasn’t sure either. I’m liking it now.
I need to grab that journey
Stream it first, but I think you would like it. 😍
William Shatner Seeking Major Tom is a shockingly good album. Alot of great guests on there. If you get a chance check it out.
Thank you! I really enjoy William Shatner. 🤗♥️
My vinyls sound warm. Sometimes I have to turn on the a/c because the whole house is so warm.
We definitely have to crank our AC right now. It's definitely summertime. Thank you and take care.
You should come to Washington state. We haven’t even hit 80 yet.
The weather sounds wonderful!!! ♥️🤗🌞
Enough with the fruit 😂 Girl, that just killed me!
Haha! A lot of his songs have fruit in the titles. 😊
I know. I just loved the comment. Very succinct and to the point!
HELLO MELINDA el albums de journey es una JOYA en vivo ese si que un discazo... BYE BEAUTIFUL💓👋
Thank you so much for the kind words. 🤗♥️ Take care.
Prince Welcome 2 America Deluxe box for $34 bucks on amazon. Def leopard vol 3 I purchased for $65 bucks a few days ago. Daily amazon has a 65% off on some records
Oh wow! Thank you for the heads up.😍
@@MelindaMurphy I've been checking daily. Don't really support Amazon but anything 50% and over I'll definitely check out. I got the def Leppard box for $63. The price changes daily. If it goes up just check a few days later. "Let it be" box was 50% off. I'll let you know if I find any on super discount. I always search LP Box Set and just look for the biggest discount every couple of days.
I am considering buying a record store day release album Peter Gabriel, New Blood. It is the first time this album has been released on vinyl. It is some of his popular songs, performed with an orchestra. There are other songs that are not on his previous album such as the Book of Love that was in the movie Shall We Dance.
My question is they only press so many copies for RSD and if I don't buy it now it will cost alot more. Is it worth the investment? Or should I be happy with his original records. The original songs are more rocking where the songs on New Blood are mellow. It is 3 records for 46 dollars and when I pay shipping it will be over 50. Sometimes I struggle deciding
If it were me and I loved these albums, I would probably buy the RSD version. If the songs mean something to you, you would probably enjoy the different renditions. That's just me though. You know your budget and love for the music. ♥️🤗 Best wishes to you.
@@MelindaMurphy Thank you Melinda. I will sleep on this. I do like Peter Gabriel and saw the pictures on his website of the inner sleeves and the gate fold. His vocals is more apparent on the tracks with the quieter melodies from the orchestra. His daughter Melanie is singing back up on a few songs.
@@MelindaMurphy HI Melinda. I went ahead and ordered a RSD Peter Gabriel New Blood record. I learned there were only 5000 copies pressed. It came to $45 with shipping. There is no record store where I live so I ordered it from my favorite independent shop that ships. I think I will enjoy this because I listened to it on Spotify from the 2011 CD. Thank you for your advice.
I definitely have not connected with Adele 30 like I have her other releases. The only stand out song on that album is To Be Loved, towards the end of the album.
I really wanted to like this album. I was so impressed with her concert. Perhaps I should buy one of the other albums. I would probably like 21. Thank you and take care.
Random thoughts: John Coltrane/Johnny Hartman-a great album. I have it on CD, and that sounds good, so I'm sure the vinyl sounds incredible. Harry Styles- "He sings about fruit a lot." I cracked up at that! Still cracking up when i think about it. BTW, you are NOT an "old lady!" That would make me ancient😁!
Haha! I'm old in comparison to the other Harry Styles fans. Lol. He does sing about fruit quite often. Lol. Thank you for always making me smile. I appreciate hearing from you. Take care.
It’s cool that you really don’t like the Harry Styles Harry’s House. We all have different tastes in music. In my opinion. This is my favorite album of the year. It does require multiple listens. I haven’t played my vinyl yet. Just the CD. So how does it sound to you? I have the Target version and one from his store. So when I get around to it. I’m going to compare the 2 versions I also have the cassette.
I think the sound quality of Harry's House is terrific. No complaints. Maybe the music will grow on me. I hope so. ♥️ Thank you and take care.
I just ordered the new Conan Gray Superache on Red vinyl from his store. I don’t know if you’ve ever heard of him but, I really like him. Memories and People Watching are 2 songs from his new album. I also bought the Cassette and CD. I still play cassette’s. I have a refurbished Kenwood dual cassette recorder. I think it sounds really good.
