LPI SOLDER MASK-liquid photoimageable Ink ,its been in use for over 25 years. I first used it in 1986 and ever since until 2012 when I no longer worked. It comes in multiple colors depending on who your vendor is. I used Taiyo America out of Nevada and we regularly used green a little blue, red, white. clear which is hard because well its clear!
An interesting video, although I've never had any need for masking per se - it is interesting and informative. I personally find it more simple to use photo sensitive boards , expose them , then etching. As far as protecting the copper I just use a clear acrylic spray paint. Protects it just fine. This is indeed a great method and great video - but only needed if the traces and pads are so close together to warrant separation from making accidental solder bridges.
@theciskokidd Soldermask is not conductive, the green area is not a ground. It's just a protective coating, like paint. You could scratch it off if you wanted, and it would make no difference to the tracks underneath and what they do or do not connect to.
They're probably used to dealing with gold, they'd probably just plate the copper tracks with a few microns of gold. You don't make solid when you can electroplate, due to the cost, and the conductive surface layer has the properties you are after, even in the vias, and pure solid gold/silver is too soft normally, and easily damaged. It's all about cost at the end of the day for large companies as the consumers generally don't want to pay top dollar, so the manufacturing technique changes.
But...why did you cut that little board right out of the center of the sheet? I bet a sheet like that is enough to make at least two or even three such boards. And you have just wasted most of it.

Im just getting into building my own PCB's and this is a great video to add to my collection... :)

Nice product!
I used to do this by screen printing down a silver epoxy track, then electroplating. this was for microwave antennae ...
@3:04 is this is the same developer used for removing excessive copper or it is a unique developer that is is used for solder screen only ?
For solder screen only. This developer is just for solder mask paint but not an etched chemical for copper removal.
thnx
2 Henit Panchal - epoxy mask remove mostly mechanical method. But there is specialiazed remover ("BGA epoxy remover" on ebay)
kudos to your sink!
can i ask, what is the white chemical that you mix with the green solder mask?
a uv exposure unit. i lust put a piece of glass over and set up one of those cheap 500w halogen spotlights over it.
20 years ago in working not any change. Now same to work.
Hi I am from Malaysia, how to order the lacquers from LPKF and can you please give the price of each one or every type of it. Thanks.
can you do this before plating the vias?
3:32 Is the resist really spotty and removed in a bunch of places? Underexposed?
great

из такого куска текстолита можно было три платы сделать, а не одну ...
how to remove this mask??????
Neat, informative video. The music is awful, however.
catalizador
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
how about ecology. why u use home systems for chemistry waste !
spit that gum out
I do the same thing for a 5 minutes, alone in my home without this bullshits
this is stupid, no one has such equipment @ home!!
