    Can the whole assembly be placed in a vertical fashion like a white board? Can a external stand be used to hold the assembly in vertical position so that's movable to anyplace?

    Great video and awesome job on the lighting. If you wanted to hide the seams of the extrusion sections you could first install and engineering reflective vinyl for the entire length. This would be good enough to cover the seam without it being visible. You then could use a 3M or Avery brushed aluminum wrap vinyl that looks exactly like your extrusion over the top of the reflective...Viola!! 1 Piece Extrusion- No Seams.

    I changed the railings on my staircase with glass and placed LED lighting in rail on bottom . The glass looks good during the day but at night with the LED on, the clear glass looks filthy dirty - no matter what I used to clean it always looks filthy at night . Can you recommend a Type of glass that will allow the light to shine into the glass without looking like it’s never been cleaned .Thank You

    The seam on the edge frame really stands out. Isn't there a coupler to line them up better? If you have to have a seam, it should be in the center, not 4 inches from the end.

    Can u place the led on the side of the glass and not underneath it? I'm wanting to do a mini refrigerator and just place a small LED strip on the side of the glass at the bottom. I don't want to deal with trying to open up a double pane window.

    Good job! But i don't like the aluminum profile used some small pieces to splicing.

      Ling Christina - I've noticed that a lot of these aluminum extrusions are sold to the public in 1 meter lengths ... At least on Amazon.
      While there is no reason that they can't be cut in longer lengths (2m for example) there is the problem of shipping costs. My personal experience trying to ship a gift that was over 4 feet (1.2m) in the United States has been that above that length the shipping costs jump drastically.
      Extruding aluminum parts is supposed to be easy (heat sink grade aluminum is pretty soft as metals go) and it might be more economical to find a local fabricator to make them so that shipping costs don't become part of the equation.

      Not being able to source these profiles in longer cuts is unprofessional and looks shitty.

  • @leo2502

    would it make the lighting across the back panel more uniform if you were to etch the glass deeper in the areas furthest from the leds and etch less nearer the leds? it seems like there is a hot spot around the edges near the Led strips

    • @edwardsmith7131
      @edwardsmith7131 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      leo2502 - I've seen what you are asking about in "side glow" fiber optic cables.
      Normally the light reflects inside the fiber optic from the source to the end only exiting at flaws. A side glow cable will have gradually increasing surface abrasions from the light source to the end. Near the bright source emitters less of the overall light needs to be "leaked" out but as the total light dims towards the end the fiber optic surface flaws have to increase to allow the light released there to match the intensity of the lesser percentage released near the light source.
      Sand blasting the glass surface in a gradually increasing gradient away from the edge should do the trick but that would definitely be an expensive custom job.

    Can you use frosted window spray (aerosol) instead of engraving on the plexiglass/acrylic?? I'm wanting to do a special Christmas gift for someone that has quite a bit of graphics on it and would like to know if it is possible to use the frosted window spray instead of engraving all of it.

    • @bradbrinegar1419
      @bradbrinegar1419 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have tried it before. It works but doesn't give quite the same effect. I just cut the design on a plotter and use etching acid. Looks a lot better. But for 1 project the spray might be acceptable

    • @JohnThorpe1
      @JohnThorpe1 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brad Brinegar Actually what I ended up doing was getting a thin piece from Lowes, putting the paper that contained the artwork that I wanted to put on it on top of the 8" x 10" piece. Using a xacto knife, I traced the lines 3 or 4 times till it was about half way through it (pain on the fingers), but it worked out pretty well for what I needed.

      Should work with anything that is transparent, flat and engravable. You might want it to be hard (scratch resistant). Mineral glass and acrylic are good because they are very transparent, color neutral and scratch resistant. But they are also heavy expensive and crackable/shatterable (all of this is for glass far more than for acrylic)

      Look below in the comments, the artist who etched this specific piece actually put a comment of appreciation for using his piece in this demo. I believe he may be Australian. His name is Peter Edward Jurgens. :) Sum1 else asked the same question to which there's no response I can see on here.

      Tempered glass cannot be etched, but if you etch regular glass, you can then send it out to have it tempered
