I disagree, and strongly at that
      Increase your expectations
When you fail (if you fail) Keep trying until you get it
Ironically this is how i figured out my first cube on my own.
once that happened for me i applied this rule to everything.
Life went a lot better for me from that point on
Never lower your expectations because you just end up getting nothing in life or at best LESS IN LIFE

I am 32 and just bought a speed cube and while it’s only been about a month and I am learning so much… so many new algorithms, I sometimes get frustrated that it feels like it’s taking me longer than ever to solve a cube. Your video just showed that even in your 30s, it is possible… Thank You! The fact that your kids share the love of cubing with you, is a testament to your success.

The reason it’s taking longer could be the speed cube your using. If you don’t already have it, I suggest getting the Moyu RS3 M 2020, it’s only about 15 dollars and is a great budget cube!

@@Speedcuber22 that’s actually the one I am using… I did a lot of research. I think it’s just because I am learning finger tricks, algorithms, F2L… it’s just a lot to process. Especially F2L and PLL… JPERM has been a huge help!

It is about a year since I bough the book "How to solve the cube" for my kid. I did not know it was going to be this great.
In the beginning we struggled with learning the beginners methods. My son solved it in 5 minutes, and I was so proud of him. Then I beat him and solved the cube in about 2-3 minutes. That was the last time I beat him. He then solved it in 1,5 minutes and my daughter also solved it faster than me. We started in a local speedcubing club and we got starstruck when on of the world top 30 best cubers are there too. It was incredible to watch him practice his skills.
In April we participated in our first competition. I got the last place, but I really loved it. My kids loved it too. Last week we was in our second, and it was the best day of the summer so far. It is not about winning, but all the nice people and all the excitement for a good result.
Thank you for all your videos, I really love them❤

I learnt to solve a cube when I was 41 which is 4 years ago for me as well and I'm definitely still improving on the events that I practice but going backwards in the events I don't. Actually it's very hard to keep improving in every event, it's easier to focus on your favourite 2-3 events.

No way!!! We started cubing at around the same time! Congrats on the improvement! I definitely agree that the people and the community is what makes cubing special. I have made so many lifelong friends because of cubing and I'll probably cherish those memories more than the memory of a huge success in a comp. If the community wasn't what it was, I probably would not still be cubing.

And whilst I have never met you in person, (I don’t get to comps very often) I’ve seen you as an inspiration and have admired your improvement over the years. Mine has been somewhat small and subtle too over the same time given the levels of time and commitment we both can give being fathers and having full time jobs. Thank you sharing your journey throughout the four years through your thoughtful and truly incredible videos!

I used to cube back in the 80's when it first came out. Picked it up again about 3 or 4 months ago. Using a GAN 12 (GAN 11 was my first cube when I picked it up again). The MoYu Weilong WR Maglev with magnetic core mod is good too if you like heavy cubes. Wish we had these way back when. Average sub 40s now (22s PB full solve, no skips). Learning full OLL (28 to go). I just cube or learn OLL while I'm watching youtube (like now) or any down time. It's fun. Gives a sense of accomplishment at every stage.

@@Tingman Yup... first cube was either Christmas 1979 or (which I think it was) Christmas 1980. I worked out how to do it somewhere in 1981 and during 1981 I had a very lucky solve of 32 sec. Basically it pretty much skipped the last layer as I recall. Back then I used to do the Cube completely differently and UPSIDE down to CFOP. By the end of 1982 I was consistently under 60 sec. I have said this before somewhere on TH-cam, I therefore claim an unofficial world record of 32 sec in 1981... considering that the first ratified record set in 1982 was 22 sec! Happy days indeed. These days my F2L is so slow in recognition and my fingers are pretty slow too but have had a lucky sub 15 sec single and average about 50 sec. Yer... I know... frigging slow! Ho hum... but at least I have a pedigree to chat about! All I want for Crimbo is a GAN 13M maglev - as I am not really worried about my two front teeth these days! 😂😂😂😂 Merry Christmas to you and the Tingkids and Tingfam!

I'm 56 and solved the cube in about 3 or 4 weeks when it first came out in the UK. There were no guides, no online solutions or any kind of help in solving the cube. Everything was done with pen, paper and hours of frustration. I recently picked up cubing again for the first time in decades. Although I can still solve the cube, I've forgotten many of the methods I created over 4 decades ago. I average around 2 minutes a solve at the moment, far out of your league, but I'm hoping I can halve that time in the future. I've treated my self to a Gan 356 XS and a Gan 356 i Carry, the XS currently being my favourite. All I need to do now is practice 🙂

Well I started a PhD and I just started solving less and less to point I was solving the cube once a month. I forgot most of my cmlls, my times got worse and if I couldn’t get a sub 18 solve I would get dissapointed.
A couple of weeks ago I decided to retake cubing, re-learned my cmlls and I have managed to get several sub -17 Ao5 but this time I am taking things slowly, do not want to pick bad habits like last time.

Interesting to find out there are more of us who started at 30+. I am 35 and started cubing a bit over 2 years ago. Timing atound 16-17 but not on competition. Frankly speaking it got very demotivating as my progress is nearly meaningless now. After about a year i was 18-19 and after next year just 2 sec of improvement. I admit however i dont cube as much anymore.. partially because of slow or no improvement.. and thia is caused by cubing less so its a snow ball basically.
I also never forced myself to go for a competition even tho i wanted to, i usually chickened out eventually. I dont find 35 to be somehow extremely old but it is a bit intimidating seeing on comp 10-20 usually (mostly lower part of this range).

Learning Full oll and pll helped me break the 20 second barrier, and doing a lot of slow solves trying to do f2l as efficiently as possible helped me bring it down to a 13-14 average. The further you lower your times, the slower your progress will be, and the more practice it takes to improve. I used to get intimidated going to comps, but honestly they are so much fun regardless of your times, nobody there is judging you if you're slow

I started learning cubing about 2 months ago October 1st and after a week I got my first 59 second solve using beginners with ru u perm and adjacent corner swap and diagonal corner swap I got an avg of 40 about 2 weeks in and my first sub 30 near the end of that week I got a 17 person best during the end of that period I learned almost all my plls a week after and and then I learned my g perms when I a week after I got a 12.371 pb getting a lucky pll skip I learned learned almost all the olls excluding the dot plls I still have trouble with 2 plls with similar executions and got a recent pb of 12.362
    Vitural cubing app
During the period of learning the cube I remember I had a Rubik’s cube app from 6 years ago and I saw that there was a vitural cube option when I was averaging 34 it took about 2 weeks to get my first sub 1 minute on the vitural 3x3 cube I had avou 1.3 turning speed because you have to use thumbs to swipe the layers and double layer turns were not possible in the app I used I used u perms and t for most the the first month was when I how to execute beginner method at the time and got my first sub 40 4 days after and 2 weeks I got so close to a sub 30 solve eventually I got a 29 second solve then a 26 then a 23 then to now a lucky pll skip of 15.47 in my vitural cubing
    Regular cubing
I have spent around 166 dollars in cubing I’ve bought a gan 365m gan I 3 tornado v3 then Rs3m 2021 in that order the orders were spanning around a week or so apart and a few days ago I bought a 2x2 4x4 and 5x5 and am currently waiting to receive them I’ve been learning yau on my vitural cube app using the 4x4 option and I currently avg around 3.3 minutes and had a best of 2:13.18 minute solve on that cubing option. I have done over 9 thousand solves on my gan i3 and plan to do more during my journey of cubing best ao5 avg is 16.729
