※「Sega Mega-Play」とは、セガの家庭用マシン「メガドライブ」を応用した海外向けアーケードシステムである。家庭用ゲームを元にアーケード向けに変更を行っており、プレイはクレジット制。
突然変異により街を埋め尽くした奇怪な生物たちの巣食う惑星「アヴァロン」を舞台に戦う、２人同時プレイ可能な横スクロールシューティング。登場する敵たちは虫や魚といった生物をモチーフにした不気味な生物たち。そして本物さながらの動きで襲い来る亜生命たちをなぎ払う４種類のプレイヤー機体もまた生物と機械が融合した生態兵器である。一撃必殺のため撃ちエネルギー弾に加え、８方向への攻撃が可能な拡散弾や強力な追尾レーザーなど、機体によって装備の異なる７種類のオプション兵器を装備している。生々しい虫たちの動きと、不気味に響き渡るBGM、それらが一体となった今まで体験したことのない独特の世界観の妙が楽しめる。
ストーリー：
近未来、人類の戦争と環境悪化により荒廃した地球に変わる「新たなる地球」を求め、環境が似た別の惑星を、新たに開発されたウィルスを用いて地球と同じ環境に作り上げ、そこに「第二の地球」として新たな文明を築き上げた。しかし、ある時を境に住み易い環境作りのために用いたウィルスが突然変異を起こし、生命や生物を亜生命体へと変化させ、その亜生命体は築き上げた文明や社会を浸食し破壊を続けていき、まさに今惑星をも破壊してしまわんとしている…。そこで人類は最後の手段として、今まで一度たりとも使われることの無かった「生物兵器」を投入、亜生命体を根絶するオペレーションをスタートさせた。そして今、人類と惑星の存続を賭けた「生物兵器」対「亜生命体」の最終戦争が始まった…。

Bio Hazard Battle is a horizontally scrolling space shooter. You can choose one of the 4 ships, each one having its own attacks. During the game, you can upgrade your ships' weapons by collecting colored balls floating around. You can store up to 3 different weapons at the same time, executing attacks in different directions.

I can easily make out a story for this game now that I'm older.
Predictably, the humans started using the bio disasters as a weapon (again) by stage 6 since they probably were the ones that made them all in the first place (including the 4 fighters that the player controls). As always, things started to go wrong (again) by stage 7 and reached the climax by stage 8 with the player fighting what seems to be an attempt to control all of the bio hazards with that capsule thing at the end.
