The Marian Friars Minor in Kentucky have a Third Order that has their meetings online, if that helps.

Have you ever watched videos on the *Invisible People* channel?
True, they don't choose that life, but Francis did partly to show a kind of solidarity with them. This kind of Good Will is what makes him so special.
If you show that kind of solidarity and Good Will towards the people all around you who have nothing, you'll be emulating him by default.
    Do what you can.
God will cover the rest with His Grace.

Maybe instead of only preaching in the church, the Priests should take the parishioners to the streets to talk to the homeless and befriend them. They are Jesus. Only the secure can love like that.

What did Francis join? Why join or make meetings? Do you think Francis would ask anyone to fill out an application? Just live a Franciscan life.

Friars join groups and form associations to cooperatively work, gain the benefits of brotherhood, and keep one another accountable to the vows proper to the order. These things are accomplished only by working together.

ask a capuchin: have capuchins (or religious in general) become more lenient in terms of penance and discipline? and if so can one who becomes a friar live out a more sort of lifestyle that contains that original type of penance that Francis intended?

They have become very relaxed. Even the third order original was harder in penance that is stricter in penance than the 1st order is today. Look into the 1221 rule.
Franciscan lay apostolate, confraternity of penitents

I think we should start over and create a new "Order" that lives just like the homeless, but in groups to stay safe and have enuf strength left over to serve.

@@DarkMoonDroid there are many who leave everything and go live a life of a pilgrim. Some are more suited than others. For example I was able to go off to the woods and pray with my dog at my side but now I'm married I can drag my family that route. Francis knew this but understood that many families sought the same life style.... conclusion the 1221 rule. I urge you to live this before you try to live like the birds of the air

I don't think it's fair to tell a prospective aspirant that they shouldn't consider becoming a tertiary! Who knows, through him he might actually found a chapter in an area where there are no friars just because of his calling! St Francis started off solitarily with lepers. I think that you should reach out to this gentleman because you may have squashed appear in holy desire to become a Franciscan tertiary!

Father Joseph was making the point then an essential aspect of the life that was being discussed is community, and without others in the community it's not possible to live that life.
