    This set was purchased from the UK. It is scheduled to release in the Americas on August 1.
    A similar real-life locomotive is the Eurostar-branded British Rail Class 374, based on the Siemens Velaro, in turn based on the ICE 3.

    Jang the reason why your videos are so lovely and a joy to watch, is that even when you're being your most critical of something you are still positive about it. It doesn't matter if you are 5 or 50, everyone can appreciate an island of wholesomeness in a sea of chaos. Thankyou mate for all the sunshine and joy your videos bring, please never stop being you.
    P.S. another thing I've noticed, is that even though I'm not interested in this particular set, your enthusiasm for Lego overall is infectious and I'm still compelled to watch the entire thing just to hear you describe it.

    I wouldn't be surprised if someone else had the same idea or you already did but what about making a old broken and rusty train sitting in your Lego city somewhere, this is just and idea and although it would be cool to see you review it once you make it everyone has a limit to Lego pieces at some point.

    It seems like the theme for LEGO In 2018 is to buy 2 or more sets for things to look good. This set and the city hospital are two perfect examples where to make it look good and realistic, best to buy 2 or more.

    The locomotive of the previous passenger train (60051) lools like a ICE 3. This one's looks more like a RB used in Northern Germany. (the shape of the front is exactly the same and it also has simmilar colours)

    The simple stop made me think, why aren't LEGO releasing a new City train station this year? There was one in 2010, another in 2014. I doubt the 2014 one is still available to buy, yet they want people to buy this train but give them nothing to supplement it with. Very odd..

    I'm a fan of this train! I think of it looks great! And I think I will aim to get a 2nd locomotive and keep it shorter - my city is nowhere near the size of yours. For me, I was never blown away by the previous passenger train. I found that boring and this is much more interesting. But, I do still have fingers crossed for another LEGO Creator train! Thanks Jang

  • @melanierhianna
    @melanierhianna 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think the space is because the locomotive was originally designed to use the IR system but with the upgrade to power functions 2.0 its no longer needed. It does mean you can retro fit the IR.

    the 2 trains end to end looks so much better, its too short otherwise. it is almost hypnotic to watch going around the city. it has a nice solid and sleek look. I do think though this train is more like the ICE 2 rather than the ICE 3 that the previous train was closer to

    Hi Jang, thank again for another great review. I personally like the look of this train as I brings back lots of memory’s for me. My dad used to be a train driver and it looks like the British HST (High speed train) that was in service in the 80s & 90s, I remember my dad taking me to work with him before health and safety law went crazy and these trains looked so futuristic at the time. I think I’m going to have to get one to put in my city just for that reason.
    Thanks again

  • @kendog84bsc
    @kendog84bsc 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The locomotive's wheel interval between the front and the rear bogies kind of bugs me, and I feel like the round, centered front lights of the locomotive are somewhat ditracting, but I don't dislike the overall shape and aesthetics of the train.
    It was nice to see your city by the way! Feels like it's been a while since the last time I saw your city. Also, it was cool and funny to see that the train and your central station's platfrom color kinda matching. Nice review:)

  • @lubey8865
    @lubey8865 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The three cars are massively under-utilised, a train of this size should hold twice as many figures or at least a more substantial dining area!
    It feels more like a $130 set, max.

  • @themaconeau
    @themaconeau 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    For mine, it needed another end drivers car to make the train complete. And also agree that the space wasn't used effectively. The previous white passenger train may be a better buy at the moment, especially if you are deep into the first PF system.
    Thanks for the honest review 👍

  • @stephenfernandes1058
    @stephenfernandes1058 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Personally, I think that I will try and get this set because I have not gotten a train set in the past but I have always wanted one. I like the look colour scheme of this one the most and I don't mind the lack of passenger space because I won't be able to see inside most of the time. I will also build my own custom station around the tiny one they provide. I think that if you want a train but don't have one, then you get this one.

    Hello again, Mr. JANGBRiCKS!
    This is a good review video! It's very helpful for people who are considering buying this set, so that way they know of what's to come.
    Do you think that the red-sleeved torso with the space minifigure head on it is going to replace green-sleeved torso with the full space minifigure on it? I've been observing lately that the first torso, which is used on the boy minifigure in this set, has become more common place than the torso used on the boy in set 31036, Toy & Grocery Shop.
    This is the first LEGO passenger train set in five years that has two passenger cars and a locomotive instead of one passenger car and two locomotives. Even though the whole train set looks good on its own, I believe that the LEGO Company should release an expansion pack or two for this set. First, there would be a "dummy" locomotive set which would have seats where the battery box would normally be. Then, there would be a baggage car set. Each of these sets would include two pieces of straight track. I highly doubt this would happen, but what do you think, sir?
    Once again, this is a good review video! I enjoyed all of the sixteen minutes and six seconds of it. Take car, sir! Kind regards, cheesy. 6/29/2018

  • @MrClassic.
    @MrClassic. 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Fully agree with your criticism of this set. It's odd, but while just about all aspects of LEGO have evolved a lot since the 1980s/90s, the evolution of the trains have rather gone backwards. No doors, lots of unused space, sparse interior, few minifigs, tiny platform...
    Compare that to the 1991 Metroliner, which included a much more detailed interior with sleeping compartment, cargo area, engine detail etc. as well as 11 minifigs, 7 suitcases, 2 bikes, 1 trolley, a rather large platform - and still just about 100 pieces more than this. Not to forget the actual lights at the front of the train...
    Now I suppose one reason for today's simple trains is that the recommended age starts at 6, while it was 8 for the Metroliner and other classics, but still...

  • @szucsattila1417

    When I first saw this set, I was really excited, because its colour scheme really reminds me of the Hungarian train company
    called MÁV. And it especially reminds me of a certain train type called Flirt with its newer white-blue-yellow colour style (the older ones were red and white).

  • @dcspotter
    @dcspotter 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It feels like an Amtrak for me. Just need a few more passenger cars, and a replica of the train to make the set feel complete

  • @MrBnsftrain
    @MrBnsftrain 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I have to agree that it does look similar to the Eurostar, but the nose and orange color reminds me of the Brightline train in Florida! (But that train is diesel, not electric)
    I kinda like it just with one end cab! It reminds me of the new SC44 Charger locmotive pulling the Missouri River Runner, which terminates near where I live!

    Although I don't care much for real trains or Lego trains I think it would be nice if Lego offered a proper train station and single train cars of different variations. A train depot would be appreciated by train fans, too, I think.

      They've done two passenger stations, but they might be harder to find now. I agree about the single car kits. They did one back in the 9V days that could build a dozen or so variations from a single kit, but only one car.

    • @karlosbricks2413
      @karlosbricks2413 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      What are you on about? look up their''mine own train'' stuff from the early 2000s, there were loads of rolling stock you could get. do you mean the red crocodile loco they did which was a fan inspired loco which could be built in to a few dozen variants around a decade ago? back in the 12v days there were proper railway side buildings and yards, not to mention much more than just 3 train related sets for 4 years. The trouble is, i think, lego builds are so complex now, that you need lots of parts for a set, which requires a high purchase price which is out of reach for most children.

    I really loved the 9v era trains, at least the early 90s. I always wanted to get more as an adult, but I really didn't like the IR controllers, so when this came out and I got excited. My wife really wanted to get into legos as she never had them as I child and wanted to experience the magic of lego trains)) We bought it for $115 on a Christmas sale from our local retailer and I actually love it. It's not as compact of a system as the 9v motors, but it's definitely simpler than all the IR components. I feel like I want to get a second one to have a bigger train)

    I like this set better than the last high speed train set. I know it is only half of a train, but it looks way better. More detail for the loco, and a diner car! I love interiors and this one has great interiors except for the no chairs in the DINER CAR. And I'm pretty sure that those separated windows on the cars are supposed to represent doors. Great review...typical for you. Been watching since 2013!!!!!

    If I were to buy this set (I'm not going to, but if I did..) I would have to customise this and insert train doors. It seems laughable that the train pulls up to the platform only for the minifigures to be unable to enter the carriages. They'd be frantically falling over each other trying to find a door.

  • @BeasBotBonanza
    @BeasBotBonanza 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great vid as always Jang.
    When considering the price, an important factor to note is that (In the UK at least), for £20 LESS than this Lego set, you can purchase a Hornby Railways model train set that is very similar in that it contains an oval of track, three part train, some extra trackside parts and all the stuff you need to run it but crucially, it is a fine scale model with high accuracy and quality.
    I find it interesting that this Lego set is more expensive than an actual model railway set, given that this set is retailed as a toy compared to the railway set that is sold as a model set.
    Of course, not everyone wants a train set rather than a lego set, but I am sure that a large number of people who are fans of trains, would rather get an accurate model set rather than a toy set. Of course lego has the benefits inherent to lego and also it is compatible with other lego sets which is a large factor of why people would rather have this set than a model set.
    My point is that this is marketed very high in price for a toy train set when people can buy cheaper sets that are non-lego but arguably better as train sets.

    Top tip for UK folks: ARGOS has the old 2014 train for sale, which is far superior, for £84.99, which is £35 less than this train.

    Also feels/looks somewhat incomplete compared to the white and red passenger trains, without the cab car on the opposite end. Having to buy 2 kits to make a more appropriate looking set is very expensive.

    Although I know it’s based on the Eurostar color scheme, it reminds me of the old C & O streamlined color scheme of the 1950’s and 60’s so I just might get it for that reason.

    I originally thought the engine front looked kind of gross but I am totally converted now that I see its only one engine with two passenger cars. Now you can actually get two to make a good size train.

    I think if you buy two of those it would be one of the best trains

    I wish LEGO would include a "dummy" engine car with these type of sets. A second engine (without the motor) facing the opposite direction rounds out the train. You need to buy two trains to do this. And I also wish they would put some type of door on the cars.

      Garfield Smith I’ve done that with the horizon express but the weight of a 6 car train is too much for the motor. So I run both powered with white and red lights and you can balance the pull push nicely. It really flies too

      Good point. I was thinking of a 4 car train. Two 4 car trains running on a "city" road as an LRT was what I was thinking about.

    Could you do another Lego trains in action video, to show some of the newer Moc trains and custom locomotives?

    This set is amazing. It is the same price as the 2014 train but it has the new and improved functions.
    I don’t know why you don’t like it. We can make the function area a sitting area ourselves.
