I need orange marmalade! Visiting the PW shrub test garden I’m a believer that a flowering border is just as pretty as perennials with less maintenance. It’s going to be gorgeous!🌼🐝
Ohhhh, you'll absolutely LOVE 'Marmalade' potentilla, I've been growing it since it was released a few years back, the double blooms have such an amazing orange / yellow color in the heat of the summer, very stunning! ... and, as well a lovely compact specimen, I have many of these throughout my yard!
I'm in Canada, my latitude is probably about 1,500 miles north of your location, we had frost first about two weeks ago, but for this far north that's actually a good long growing season, I don't feel cheated when frost arrives about Oct 10 th, then it's a vast amount of work, work, work, getting all annuals pulled and perennials cut back and off to the compost, along with all the root veggies to be dug, dahlias and a huge number of pots to heel in for the winter, as well as getting the lawn cut one last time, acreage life is a LOT of physical work!
Those blue hydrangeas look so good by the gray swings, Matthew. Wanted to tell you that my plants from Great Garden Plants were superior plants. I was glad to find the glow stick.
Matthew, what an informative video! Thank you so much for doing it. I’m going to take a serious look at some of these shrubs for my garden, especially Jetstream, which I’ve seen at a local nursery. Here in Zone 6b, Northeast Ohio, we haven’t had a killing frost yet so my dahlias are still blooming. This is my third year of growing them - dug the tubers and stored them at the end of the first year - what a lot of work. The following spring, I discovered that I had missed some tubers when dahlia plants started sprouting. Left all the tubers in the ground last fall, covered with a thick layer of shredded leaves - almost all of them came back. The last two winters have been pretty mild. I think I’m going to leave them in again this year, mulched with shredded leaves. 🤞🤞
We had one early frost mid October and then days back up to low 90s here in SW MO! So strange but all of my annuals are still bloomed. Im not removing them until they are done. We just did a huge landscaping project last week.
lucky you all the new plants. Hedging a freeze in central WA but getting prepared. My heirloom roses are spectacular and the most showy blooms. You inspire me to keep busy.

It will…for a bit. Then dust and debris will slowly take hold and work its way between the rocks and you’ll have weeds growing on top of the landscape fabric.
Please video when you add the yellow powder sulphur to your hydrangeas. I’ve donned my PPE and added a bit but it sure doesn’t feel like I’m doing it correctly.
I will probably be using coffee grounds. It’s the only thing I was able to get to turn them blue at my last home. I’ve tried several different products throughout this year without any success.
Our frost hasn’t come yet and it’s late - it’s stayed warm. We may get a frost next week. We usually have a snowstorm before Halloween and it’s not on the radar this year.
A. Brown & Son's, where I got so many of my trees this year and from the tree auction last year, actually carries it! Looks like they may currently be in ground, but would be digging them for next year for sale. They'd be pretty big.

Our first frost is probably the night before Halloween - no sign of snow yet! This is late for us.
