Really like your vids. I'm an older guy (47yrs) getting back into car audio. Some of it is reliving my carefree 1990's, but I also have a better understanding of the electronics, and attention to details that I didn't fully grasp at 22yo. You do an amazing job explaining the science in layman's terms. As both an electronics hobbyist and DIYer, you are giving me great ideas for my truck install.

I would love to see a video on the differences of SPL subwoofers and normal subwoofer. I've got a SPL 1000 watt ground zero sub. And honestly with a decent box it still has SQ. But i couldn't find any information online whether or not a SPL subwoofer can only do SPL or also SQ

well N /M^2 is the definition of pascal , the SI (derived) unit of pressure :D and when you remember that 1 newton is about the force that a 100 gram weight applies in the gravity of earth it is easy to think of it as the same amount of pressure a object that weighs 100 grams and has a surface are of 1 x 1 meters puts on the ground, so not a lot :D great video of explaining the things though :D

VIDEO IDEA for ya! How about a test of different size sub woofers all from the very same line at the very same watts only changing box tuning for each and measure what kind of SPL you get from each? Basically test and put the debate of larger subs are better at lower frequency to rest. I am going to bet the laws of physics is going to make some people open there eyes.

I have a very interesting question for you. There are car audio systems that play 155 db with not too much flexing to the car,
yet there are audio systems that only play about 130 db but are very “ windy “ In the sense that they move much more air from the port and end up flexing the vehicle more. Why is that?
Could be the frequency. It's harder to make big numbers at lower frequencies, but you get lots of cone movements so you get a windy car.
The high SPL vehicles reinforce the car. Craig Butler's vehicles are built like a tank with several inches of window thickness.

Yes, typically you get more power when bridged. Just pay close attention to the specs. Two ohm stable amps are usually only 4 ohm stable when bridged.

It's not so much about the size, it's the efficiency.
I have a pre loaded 12" ported sub encloser w/ 1k watt amp combo. If I added another identical setup, (for a total of 2k watt worth of amp but the subs are wired to 4ohm) would I need to up grade the size of my wire run? Rn I believe it's a 10ga power/neg wire. Is this adequate?

Let's start with the power wire. If you are running a 1000 watt amp you need 4 gauge wire. If you want to add a second one you're going to need zero gauge wire.

You're probably not running an actual 1,000 watt amplifier, especially if you've got things wired to 4 ohms. That's actually good news in this case, pretty sure you would be popping fuses or burning a wire if you try to pull a thousand Watts through a 10 gauge wire. 1,000 w is pushing the upper limit on what your factory electrical system can provide. You probably need to add an extra battery if you want to run a thousand Watts. If you want to run 2,000 Watts you're going to need an upgraded alternator and additional batteries.

If you want to run 2000 Watts the most cost-effective way to do that is to wire your speakers to one ohm. So you need a 1-ohm stable amp and a pair of dual 4 ohm subwoofers.

You cannot use one bass knob to control two amplifiers unless:
1 you have two identical amplifiers "strapped" not all amplifiers can be strapped together.
2 You have an external bass knob that is connected to the RCA inputs on the amplifiers.
3 You have an external processor or advanced LOC that has a bass knob.

A pascal or N/m^2 is a bit more than the pressure a sheet of paper creates on a table. Standard paper is 80g/m^2 and a Newton is 102 grams force.

ok so im going from running my 4 door speakers on about 25 watts to 150 watts each, i was a little confused on the math, what db gain am i gonna get?
In a theoretically perfect world I would say around 7. But that's really just a rough estimate.
So what happens to my power supply when I add more amplifier to my set up, with the big three and without……..
As long as your alternator can put out enough current it will be fine. Otherwise you'll starve your amplifiers, even with the big three.

Music produces midbass, midrange, and treble. Bass is only a part of the music. Go SQL instead of SPL alone. 🎶 🔊

Putting a subwoofer in a room mode is definitely not a good idea! For a higher SPL score in a car, sure but in a room all you get is constructive interference for one note. Definitely not a substitute for doubling the power which would give you 3db more at all frequencies*
*within the limits of the subwoofer.

That phrase...."within the limits of the subwoofer" is something a lot of people forget. ALL subwoofers exhibit a trait known as power compression. For example...
A sub rated at 1000 watts...
Give it 250 watts and you get 130 dB. Double the power to 500 watts and you might get 132.5 dB (+2.5 dB). Then go from 500 watts to 1000 watts and you might only get 134.5 dB (+ 2 dB). As you get closer to the maximum power handling, you no longer see that theoretical 3dB increase each time you double power, due to the speaker reaching the mechanical limits of the suspension.
@@PURESOUND4 I could not have said it better myself. Just because you double the power and gain three dBW does not mean that you're going to get three more dBSPL!
@@PURESOUND4 If I am not mistaken, as the power goes up, the voice coil heats up. If it heats up to a certain level, the resistance goes up in the voice coil. This also causes compression.
@@markceci9896 Yes, that's thermal compression. Heated voice coils=higher impedence=less output from the amp. That takes a longer playing time to become noticeable.

Long story short just add another subwoofer and amplifier (if your electrical can handle it)
That, and play around with the subwoofer location to take advantage of standing waves inside the vehicle. Beyond that, there's no magic to this, it's physics.
