    i’m not autistic, or a child (i’m 24). but i grew up with a multitude of chronic illnesses (in the UK) and such an understanding doctor like Dr. Paul would’ve likely listened to my parents and diagnosed me earlier. Rather than waiting 17 years, having gotten a J tube and G tube at 15 when i really declined in health (i still rely on those) to come to the same conclusion regarding testing as my nurse mother came to suggest. Thank you Dr. Paul for listening to parents!

      My son is also 16 years old. He was dx at 4yrs old and I was in denial for a while. Then I started doing research. He has Asperger’s syndrome. He is so stinking smart and is always talking to me. He has social anxiety, even with family members. He also has depression but he is always trying to save the world. ( Like his mom ) He talks before he thinks and he is the youngest of 7. I am having financial problems and he came to me and said he wanted a job to help me out. My late husband passed almost two years ago and was his stepdad. He told me one day that he was the only person who told him that he was proud of him. His own father has never told him that. He really doesn’t want to much to do with him.Yes after 16yrs his dad is still in denial. I was so proud of him for wanting a job!!!! His dad told him that if it interferes with school then he would make him quit. He doesn’t realize how much it took for my son to ask for help to get a job!! This kid put all his anxiety aside to try and help mom. I was so very proud of him and I tell him every day how proud of him. Oh btw he is home schooled!!! I could go on about that too but I won’t.

    Mom of 2 kids with autism here. Early intervention is key. Getting a social worker was super helpful, she helped us get on Medical Assistance which made therapy possible. Everything has been "free" thanks to the secondary insurance. Later, my son also developed Type 1 diabetes. Again, having M.A made it possible for him to be on a pump and insulin. We aren't a wealthy family, so I have no idea how that would have worked without it.

    What a lovely doctor ☺️ My son is 8 years old and autistic. He LOVES going to the doctor. But if he’s seeing a new one we have to give them a heads up that he expects very specific things to happen before they can do anything else. He expects them to listen to his heart, then they have to use their light to check his ears and mouth. After that he’s happy to let them do whatever other things they need. It’s such a relief to find doctors who work well with kids that have special needs.

    Dr Paul is a treasure. I have a son who required medical intervention from birth & throughout his growing up & we were attached to large teaching hospital for his treatment. Only ever once over 16 years did any medical student Dr come & sit with me & ask what I could tell him about my son.
    Most wanted to tell me what & how to think & what to do. I was treated as if I knew nothing. Mothers do know their children.

    My children were born in 1972 and 1974....way before diagnosing autism became a thing in the 90s.
    They were very high functioning so no one ever questioned their quirkiness.
    At age 49 and 51 they both have good jobs and are independently managing their lives but....they struggle with relationships.
    I rarely see them. When I do get to spend time with them...they do not like to be touched, kissed, or hugged.
    They mostly connect with text or email.
    They focus on their areas of interest like collecting things, movies, travel.
    As a parent, I feel very blessed that their and my struggles were not more intense.

    This literally brought tears to my eyes. My son is almost 3 and a waiting in autisum eval. He's struggled so much at doctors n hospitals. And he has been given lack of healthcare because of that. He freaks out he cries he fights it pure panic mode And a lot of doctors are not understanding of that. So you're patient and care is amazing. I hope someday that all pediatricians are trained on how to handle autistic children and how all children act differently. Some may be OK with being touched someday. Not some maybe distracted, some may be in a panic. You just don't know until you're there. It's a real struggle, but seeing a doctor be so patient and kind is very helpful im keeping my faith we will find the right fits.

    As a mom to a child with autism it is crucial for kids to get the help they need as soon as possible. Early intervention can help. And just teach others about autism. It's sad that insurance can be a problem to help cover therapies. My son gets Medicaid so it can either be easy or hard to make sure what therapies can help. Right now he only gets help with speech at school, he gets occupational therapy outside of school and play therapy. And currently on a waiting list for ABA therapy

    • @sachikawaii
      @sachikawaii ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I'm so glad you're getting somewhere with your therapy for your son! Please be wary of ABA therapy as a lot of autistic people have spoken out strongly against it as they have trauma from it. Autistic minds are beautiful and should be cherished. :)

    • @kjwantsanap
      @kjwantsanap ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sachikawaii aba therapy can be such a great benefit, but like with any kind of treatment a parent needs to be very aware of what is being done, why it’s being done and if it is right for their particular child. My son is autistic and has been in aba therapy (as well as speech and occupational therapy) over 2 different periods of time to help address some significant challenges he was having. I make sure I know what they are doing with him, and I observe from time to time to see his particular plan in action. I don’t have experience in aba and what it was like many years ago when it was more problematic. These days aba seems to have incorporated other types of therapy as well.
      For my child it has been incredibly beneficial in helping him become more independent (particularly in tasks like eating and using the bathroom without help), as well as assisting in managing and reducing unwanted behaviors like spitting and elopement(running away from caregivers). They helped me learn how to better interact with and encourage his good behaviors at home and when we are out and about. Over the years we’ve noticed a significant decrease in meltdowns and tantrums. He’s less frustrated because he can better communicate with us, and we have a better understanding of how to reach out to him. I don’t think that would have happened without aba.
      I think parents just need to think of it in terms of, say, doctors. You will find good ones and bad ones, and if you have a bad one you need to leave them and go elsewhere. And parents of special needs kids really need to be alert so that you don’t leave your child in a bad situation with people who aren’t actually helping.

I'm also told find a place for therapy, but everyone ignores the fact that we have a severe lack of competent doctors, nurses and therapists, and rescue is really not in sight. yes i could go here and pay for the therapy myself but for one month i would have to spend a year's salary the system just stinks in germany.

Too much sensory input makes it far more difficult for me to process speech and give thorough, accurate answers. Also, for many of us the unknown and unexpected aspects of life are the most stressful. A new office, doctor, or procedure is much easier to handle if I am prepared ahead of time. My pediatrician was an absolute jerk to me as a child. I was always the problem. Even today with my current doctors I can't even get good treatment because they just brush all of my symptoms off. I'm autistic by the way so this comment may come off a little weird.

      Homeschool from all of my experiences with autistic children, especially non verbal. There are plenty of groups around the US, in every state that has homeschool communities for support and all public schools have to offer services to children with disabilities regardless if they are homeschooling. No one knows your child's educational, emotional and physical needs like you as a parent do.

    artistic kids are awesome don't let the doctor tell you that there's nothing wrong with your child, I knew my child was artistic since she was born they always asked me how did I know and I told them that always knew that there was something wrong with her flashlight on her eyes nothing call her by her name nothing now that somebody toke her seriously and now that she's getting the help she understands a little bit more It helps when they have sibling around because that way they can learn more , I know it's not funny but I find it funny because she's my oldest and I have a anther child and she copies everything that the baby does ages 3 and 2 years example my little one talk so when they are fighting one talks other one sign language , I told her I am not going to quite on you there's a way for everything so I teached her a couple sing language words, teachers are amazing that I show her lots of things with out no one help

    What is Autisum?

    • @sachikawaii
      @sachikawaii ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Autism is basically just a different way for a brain to be "wired". Autistic people are affected by difficulties in processing things such as sounds, touch, visual things and such, processing emotions from both themselves and others and struggle to regulate stimulation so make sounds or movements to help with it. There's much more to it but autistic minds are beautiful and its just another way of processing the world.

      I think it is more about reading the person. A lot of autistic people do not like to be hugged, may they be kids or adults does not really matter, whilst others do like to be held to be able to relax from a stressing situation. I don't think it is up anyone but the child and the parents to tell what this specific child need to function better.
