A score based campaign dictates the best strategy. A fast and combat efficiency strategy will reduce rng. Allowing you to wake up from a deep sleep with dragons breath and still get a gold medal on Legendary. For example, 10 tanks is 30 population. The combat multiplier is based on a 20% unit built/loss ratio in most missions. If you lose more than two tanks, you start to lose the combat multiplier. You add that with the fact that it takes ideally 15 minutes to max out pop with tanks, and your time bonus is already starting to dip. Now change that to where most of your pop is infantry and warthogs. You can automatically lose 3x the units and can realistically get the best time bonus, allowing you to potentially lose 6x the number of tanks and still get the gold medal. So, what's the difference if you can get a gold medal with both strategies? The number of attempts it takes to get the gold medal. With mass tanks, rng will often dictate your success. Whereas at least 20 pop of infantry/warthogs (1 pop units) is determined by skill alone. I hope this gives a fresh perspective on timed events. As it has been almost 15 years and ppl still go mass tanks. Lol
