@@Adam-kp7tk Q3 refers to the third set in qualifying where drivers try to set as fast a time as possible. It decides the starting grid for the face. P3 usually refers to the position. So if a driver came in third they’d be in 3rd place. If you meant FP3 then that’s the third practice session for drivers to acclimate to the track (stands for free practice).
@@Adam-kp7tk P3 is another session like FP1 or 2, just a testing session. Q1-3 determines the starting positions for every driver

Also made possible by Russell's ability to get everything out of that car, day in day out.
He'll bring serious trouble for HAM (and the rest of the field) next year.
I like to think that things will work out for them next year and will be a top Medfield team
It is also partly the luxury of having nothing to lose. Either they gamble and it works out and they win big or it doesn't work out and they are still at the back.

Ik Mclaren's team is a whole vibe but if you listen to the radio on f1TV, they were waiting for russell and hamilton to finish. As soon as hamilton binned it, they informed Norris.

@@TheYorkshireGeordie That's the thing, right. Sure everyone says Williams have done well, but in all fairness Mclaren have come forwards at an astonishing rate, and furthermore so have Ferrari. To go from 2018 as the 8th slowest car, to 2021 where you pick up 5 podiums in 14 races, including a win and alongside 3 front row starts, there has to have been a major improvement.
@@TheYorkshireGeordie Well Williams have been P10 in the championship for a long time. McLaren have been P9 one season P6 the next before dropping again and generally being inconsistent.
@@TheYorkshireGeordie McLaren were 4th last year (Got third cause Perez crashed out but their car was 4th). Williams went from last to 8th so I think Williams made a bigger breakthrough in the last 3 years.
Its an exciting time for F1 in general. A tremendous amount of change is going on at the moment. There is an incredible amount of talent on the grid, because the generation Verstappen, Leclerc, Russel, Norris turned out absolutely amazing. The media-presence is incomparable to before-Liberty Media-times. Almost all teams are financially stable, so there is lots of investment in infrastructure going on, with multiple teams preparing a serious run at closing the gap to the front. The incoming cost-cap propably helped a lot there. Add to that the enormous technical changes next year, and we're in for exciting times.
This season will be remebered as one of the best in the last 20 years.
2012 might take the crown as best season of 2010s.
I think you need to look back a lot further to see such diversity of success
I loved 98, 99 and 00, since then maybe 03, 05 and 07 where cool, 12 i allways have this feeling of being some kind of "artificial" but cool season anyways...

Just to some up this crazy season so far:
-We have a thrilling championship battle after so many years
-ferrari managed to get pole twice
-mclaren and norris being on top of their game with multiple podiums including a 1-2 finish and now a pole position
- russel outqualifying hamilton two times now in a williams
- a dutch driver winning the dutch grand prix
-a thrilling race in france
-another french driver winning a race and that being ocon for the first time
- daniel ricciardo back to winning ways
So far every race this season has been memorable, this epic season just keeps on giving
Don’t forget the fact that Mazepin outqualified max
A great ending to an era, i will miss these cars, with all the issues, they are the fastest f1 cars in history, and on of the prettiest as well in my opinion.

You must've started watching F1 after 2013. If you think this is interesting, have a look at 2010. That is (understandably) regarded as one of the best seasons ever and it puts this one in its place

Best thing is that every weekend has its own story. Championship is close, we have surprising wins and podiums. Best season since 2012 maybe it's even going to be better, who knows?

This is my 30th year of whatching F1, and I can say that this season is one of the best ever. Whe are seeing very young drivers, proving themselves, amongst some of the best drivers ever. Tomorrow will be a graeat GP.

Perez has been so underwhelming. You'd expect Max to get Pole Position here if he were allowed. Perez should be challenging a lot more than just P9.
Although perez didn't do well, it was also the team's fault for keeping him out and not changing to slicks when everybody changed, they waited 1 lap longer and switched when mercedes also switched. He was only able to put in 1 push lap which wouldn't work. So it's 50/50 on him and on the team, bad calls.

I've been a Williams fan for 30 + years. To see the team doing well is to see persistence pay off. It's a pity George is moving away next year because he's a rising star for sure.

Russel is a master at finessing his way through in qualifying when rain is doing its thing
That’s actually also a lot down to the Williams strategy calls too. The car has been bad for a long time but they’re usually spot on with qualifying strategy

The 107% rule is a sporting regulation affecting Formula One racing qualifying sessions. During the first phase of qualifying, if the circuit is dry, any driver who is eliminated in the first qualifying session and fails to set a lap within 107 percent of the fastest time in that session will not be allowed to start the race without permission from the race stewards.
For example, if the fastest Q1 lap time was 60 seconds, each driver who is eliminated in the session must complete at least one lap within 64.2 seconds to guarantee a race start.

Found the rule.
"Every car has to be in 107% of the fastest time in qualifying. " So if the fastest time i.e. pole position time is 100 seconds, then every car has to have a time faster than 107 seconds.
This rule is in place, so that any slow car doesn't pose danger to the faster cars.

It won't happen because very powerful people make pressure on both Merc and Red Bull to keep LH winning.
Otherwise Merc wouldn't be artificially kept dominant for so many years, nor would any team pay that much money to LH. Merc could have taken any other younger drivers long time ago, which would easily keep winning in that monster-car. But they weren't allowed. Only one driver had to win, at any cost. It's more politics than racing.
