In Bengali there is a saying
    "Guru mukha padma vaakya,
    Chitate koriya aaikya"
Which means, whatever Guru says one should listen very attentively
And now I will also try to listen surpeti and tanpura attentively
I am really glad that people like you are there on TH-cam...

One of the best explanation! I have been to many gurus (and this is not to say that they are not good but may be just that they did not understand my problem), but no one explained this clearly and this easily. It required about
10 years or so for me to realize this fact as I am not form a family with musical background. I wished someone had told me earlier. I would have performed in front of people more confidently, without worrying about the correctness of my first note. Anyways, better late than never. Thanks for the video.

I see that many learners are asking how to practice notes other than Sa (c in western notation). I believe one can pick the note of his/her choice to practice...like I have my android app "tuner-pitched" where they have sine wave mode in chromatic tuning...which allows me to choose a scale first (I choose E because I have E natural base flute) , and then it gives me a full circle showing all 12 notes (even the octaves selection ). Then I put on an earphone, play note of my choice in a low volume...and then I practice the same note on my flute. It really works like miracle. I'd like to thank Ashwin ji for making this BT series videos...💕

    Ashwin ji,
You are sheer genius of magical tihai : 'Absorption - Reflection - Transmission' , quite literally (physics) as well as figuratively (metaphysics) !!
There are very few artists who are so good in transmitting knowledge with such clarity and precision.

Total beginner , thanks for the tutorial for holding the flute!
Had bought a flute from a street flute guy for 200 hundred bucks to help him out .
He was also oversmart n gave me a curved flute 🙂
Anyway , so now im just learning to hold flute correctly .
Its a whistle type of held flute.
But thanks for sharing all the info , hugely appreciate the basics from someone like you !

Extremely useful. The effectiveness of this session is due to synergy of many things... "Tantra, Saadhanaa, Kaushalya & Sanvaad - Technique, Meditative Contemplation, Skill and Communication". I really feel overwhelmed due to the clarity of expression towards the objective. I have experimented with the Sur-Peti on iTablaPro as well as Tuner T1. This is extremely demonstrative and self correcting technique. I shall remain anchored to this technique and hope to experience the "floating" experience with Tanpura some day soon.

For Android users, "Tune - Pitched" app can be used. Just need to go to sound mode and select "Sine" and appropriate pitch like E.
