#theprodigy #firestarter - เพลง
Prodigy was the only electronic music act that got consistently invited to rock/metal festivals. That's how hard they went live.
I saw them alongside metallica, iron maiden, slayer, dream theater and a good deal more at sonishpere in the UK. Absolutely legendary 🙌
The think was that the 90s was all about the "gathering of the tribes", it was a time where artists where encouraged to pull from various influences to create something that was fresh and new because the public was eclectic and wanted, more than anything, something that was new and decidedly "not 80s"...
Back then, it was not at all seen as a paradox that a metalhead/skate punk/alternative kid would also be into psy/goa trance or techno, because all of it was alternative non-mainstream music.
So, wasn't so much that The Prodigy was accepted in the alt rock/metal/hardcore/punk scene, The Prodigy was seen an integral part of the scene.
I have very vague memories of some great gigs from these guys. There were very messy occasions, so much fun. Good times :)
There are some interviews with them where they talk about what really got them going. They hated the music industry and lived for the live shows. That rave background meant they just fed off the fans!
Saw them at Meraluna 2018, it was fantastic.
Hard to hear this and not be IMMEDIATELY transported back to the 90s!
I was in my 30's when this came out and I freaked out my younger relatives when they heard and saw me jammin' to it. How can you not? It's infectious!
Yeah totally, but still SO fresh til this day! Imo
makes me wanna watch the movie "Hackers"
Smack My b**** up is so much better
Hard to hear this………….
While I love this song, I think "Breathe" would've been a better Prodigy song to use as the first reaction. Some other ones to check out: Their Law, Voodoo People, Mind Fields, and Invaders Must Die.
YES! ‘Breathe’ is amazing but has more of a conventional song format than most of their other songs. Plus it has both Maxim and Keith on lead so there’s more variation throughout the song. I think they might love it :)
@@dd-bb Agreed!
the one with the sickest beat is No Good, Start the Dance
Their Law was so good live. Truly brought metallers and ravers together.
Also Poison, Spitfire and Take Me To The Hospital.
This song was absolutely massive here in the UK. Thankfully it didn't spark an arson epidemic.
Yet I only got into it about 10 years ago - sad for me. I was around since the 70s so lost out here.
Double platinum here. Even sold well enough in the US to reach Gold status.
Probably because we weren’t the Tik Tok generation! 😅
I bet Varg Vikernes would've appreciated this for reals
I am from romania. I fell in love with this in the 90's forever. Still listening very often
Y'all really gotta watch the official music video for this, it goes so well with the song. Cause without the visual, you don't really get the full picture of who The Prodigy is.
it’s from the 90s they got to watch all the videos :)
Yea man can't believe they didn't react to the video. Doesn't hit as hard without it.
Agreed.
Every now and then when I'm on the Jubilee line I wonder if I'm travelling in the tunnel from the video. They filmed the video there before the east London extension was finished after Sharon and Tracey had done their thing tunnelling through!
RIP Keith Flint. (The MC in the Prodigy). I'm really interested now to hear what you guys would think of Pendulum. Since they had a knack for beats and vocals even.
KNIFE PARTY
Keith was never an MC within the Prodigy, at least, not really.
Him and Leeroy were dancers first and foremost, and since the third album, Keith started doing vocals, but MCing is NOT doing vocals.
MCing has always been the task of Maxim (whom also started doing more fill in vocals), whom always kept the attention and energy of the audience in check.
Them reacting to Pendulum would be the most unexpected yet welcome crossover!
I've still got that OG single in that sleeve
Pendulum is super dope!
The Prodigy are among some of the most respected old(ish) mixers/samplers and did all of their work before people now who have crazy computer programs. They just listened to a lot of weird music and had ears to create this futuristic rave culture 90s sound of generation X. They were and still are incredible artists and performers. Great reaction too!
The “hey hey hey” sample is from Art Of Noise - Close (to the Edit). So many people sampled it, I think they made more money from royalties on that sample than they did on the original song.
Thanks
No one cares.
@@adriantrusca1245 speak for urself nerd
and one of the best remixes ever was Liam’s take on Instruments of Darkness by Art of Noise
@@adriantrusca1245Yes they do. 🙄
"No good" is their best song (in my opinion).. also Voodoo people, Break and enter, Breathe, Out of space, Charly, Poison are all worth a reaction 🔥
Ah man, love No Good!❤
you're speaking my language as a very long time Prodigy fan, No Good (start the dance) is my favorite song and prodigy video
Wind
It
Up!
My next door neighbour hated me playing Prodigy but when 'No Good' came on one summer in my back garden I was asked to turn it up!
I had to show her the cd cover as she wouldn't believe it was good ole Prodigy!!
100% I never really liked this track but really like those listed.
Man rocking this and Spitfire, Breathe and more while playing games on the computer was a blast in the 90's early 2000's. RIP Keith, you legend.
I loved Prodigy's Fat of the Land album so much, I owned two copies
🤟😎🍻💯🔥
Fat of the Land was the SECOND album I ever got (after Guns N Roses Appetite for Destruction) where I INSTANTLY loved every single song on the album on first listen... no fill ins, no throwaway songs, no songs that grow on you... perfection!
90s EDM had a lot of old school hip hop samples in it, especially Big Beat stuff which The Prodigy helped popularize. The song you guys said you heard before "Smack My Bitch Up" is a vocal sample from Ultramagnetic MCs "Give the Drummer Some".
Some other big EDM and Big Beat artists from this era worth checking out are Fatboy Slim, the Chemical Brothers, and the Crystal Method
Also, Keith Flint (lead singer) and Cool Keith from Ultramagnetic were cool with each other hence why he used that simple in the song.
they weren't called EDM back then, The Prodigy were known as a Drum n Bass act
It's weird because Crystal Method and Chemical Brothers didn't get nearly as mainstream as Fatboy Slim and The Prodigy but they were both miles ahead in the genre. I don't really like FS or TP but CM and CB were some of my favorites.
No such thing as 90s EDM…it was called electronic music. EDM is some Rolling Stone magazine BS name they came up with when reviewing generic top 40 stuff
Chemical Brothers beats are HARD
Mindfields is the track from the first Matrix. Also good one, a bit mellow but still with a lot of breakbeat energy.
R.I.P. Keith what a legend..he's the reason why a became a raver 30 years ago and still am today 🤟
Finally some Prodigy. Hope u do more of it. They are so versatile - RIP Keith.
This is one of the songs that helped keep my weight down back in my club days. Damn, you come off the floor after a set of songs from bands like Prodigy and you're just a nasty, glob of sweat. Best workout you can get.
🤣🤣🤣
YES!!!!! My husband and I played this CD to death when it came out; the other HOT song was “Smack My Bitch Up”. Yep, blasting with our 5 year old in the car. He’s 31 now and doin just fine 😂❤. You two should watch the official video for Firestarter; it’s great!
My dad used to the same, I am now 35 and keep coming back to Fat of the Land!
this entire album is an absolute GEM, released in 1997 and i STILL listen to it. next song by them you check out NEEDS to be breathe
90s British electronic big beat/break beat music is untouchable. Crystal Method is the only ones that can ride with them
Man Crystal Method were so good. Never mind their ability to make amazing TV theme songs later
I dunno, I feel like Uberzone was pretty up there, too. And whilst he was a bit late to the party, Klayton/Celldweller is decent.
How can you not mention the Chemical Brothers
@@depht_ only because after Dog Your Own Hole, they went a bit average. New album is great though I think. Don't think the consistency is there for Chemical Bros. But, as far as impact on the genre, you are right, Chemical deserves the mention.
Mainly because we were talking about American acts that got close to the likes of the Chems, Prodigy, Fatboy Slim, Propellerheads, Hardknox and the like,@@depht_.
That said, as @jordanbenson2980 pointed out, The Chems came out of the gates with the most phenomenal album and then just slowly got less interesting (up until Push the Button, at which point they came back, full force, IMO).
Liam Howlett, the DJ, is the prodigy behind The Prodigy. Find the Dirtchamber Sessions. It's 6 tracks from the DJ based off a set he did for the BBC. He drops everything musically in the album, and you never realized how closely all the sounds are related until he puts them all together..
THIS!!!!
The Prodigy is a techno/ rave project by composer/ producer Liam Howlett in the 90's ... Howlett used two frontmen to handle vocals up front - Keith Flint (the white punk rocker) and Maxim (the black guy in dreads)... Maxim did the vocals on another Prodigy single - 'Breathe' w/ Keith Flint.
'Firestarter' was Keith Flint on vocals... Sadly, he took his own life in 2019.
they also had a 4th member, Leeroy Thornhill but he only danced and played occasional keyboards
Never have heard of ANYONE disliking this song before. First time ever.
Song length being an issue? Wild! Guess you just had to be there?! Yes ... the trance was real.
Fire starter is a personal favorite of mine ❤
@@horderelations4041Yes that's an issue with Prodigy songs in general. I've seen tons of people listens only the first minute of this song.
I mean, there isn’t much of a melody and the singing is hardly a work of art so I get it. It also feels extremely dated.
@@freakazoid4691 it's a friggin electronic song. if you can't listen to this, you can't do any real EDM or techno. at that point hard to gauge why they chose this song.
Takes me back! Wow early 90s whizzing my nuts off 🙌
RIP Kieth 💙🙏
The Prodigy, to me, is all about their first two albums The Experience and Music For The Jilted Generation.
Top song picks: Out of Space, Fire, Their Law, Poison
When it was announced that Keith Flint had died it tore a hole in my heart that I can only imagine it’s like losing a brother, I’ve spent 20 plus years listening to the prodigy and that day broke me
Seen these guys live a few times. They were incredible. One of a kind techno mosh pits everywhere. This song was on the Playstation one game Wipeout's soundtrack. It blew them the f*ck up.
Breathe and Funky Shit are good choices for the next reaction!
Fat Of The Land is probably one of my favorite albums of all time. Has no skips.
The "Hey Hey Hey" is a sample from Art of Noise's "Close To The Edit" (also worth a listen) from early 80s.
The sampling in The Prodigy's music is a fun rabbit hole
No one cares.
The Prodigy - Diesel Power
Im 48 and still blasting the prodigy out of my viynl decks ..amazing British group 🇬🇧
Fat of the land is an absolute belter of an album... Also music for the jilted is probably one of the most influential early 'EDM' albums... Must listen, all of it.
Don’t forget about „ The Experience” album
@@agnieszkan.988 I of course recognise experience being legendary in terms of pioneering electronic music and experimentation, but personally I didn't enjoy it musically, but hey that's just my opinion and taste. Jilted on the other hand was mind bendingly awesome to me.
music for the jilted generation is godly!!!
Seeing these guys was probably my 2nd favorite concert experience, just so much intense energy at that show
I second that! Immense performance! Only better concert Ive been to was MIchael Jackson which is kinda null n void saying :)
As a bonus though when I saw them, they had Foo Fighters as their support lol.
This had to be heard and seen. Some music videos are as iconic as the songs themselves.
Songs like "Breathe", "Poison", and "Voodoo People" are also great songs by these guys.
"Breathe" is definitely a better choice
R.I.P. Keith Flint
Mental dancer and singer for the prodigy. Your antics are still missed my man 🤘🤯🤘
No devil horns. Fucker was a dance artist. That's it.
The repetition is its psychotic trance effect.
This song just bottles up anger and tension and shoots it directly in your ears 😂
Loved the reaction
As hip hop fans I would highly recommend that you check out Diesel Power from The Fat Of The Land album, also by The Prodigy.
Edit; I would like to add Poison too. Music For The Jilted Generation is one of my favourite albums (of any genre) of all time and Poison is track that would fit in here, over any of the others. Their Law/VoodooPeople is also a good shout though.
Break & Enter is my favourite though close second/tie for first being Poison.
Jilted Generation is pretty underrated
Poison is a brilliant song. One of my favorite prodigy tracks
I worked in a bar in the 90s when this came out. Big pool hall with a small attached room for live bands with is own little bar and tiny dance floor. Disco ball and all. We were cleaning up one night and the bartender with me was 7 months pregnant, shaved head, piercings, tattoo, wearing a khaki overall shorts thing with combat boots. This song came on the TV in that room and she went to tearing it up on that dance floor under the strobe lights. Most bad ass thing I have ever personally witnessed. This song will always be gold to me.
Love from 🇬🇧 I was lucky enough to see them few times and I danced to firestarter many nights long at the ra be parties all over Europe good times.
RIP Keith Flint (singer) he was originally the band's hype man. He got the crowd excited before their shows so he was metaphorically a fire starter.
Oh boy, you two have so many amazing tracks from The Prodigy to discover..
The Chemical Brothers were, in my opinion, one of the best to ever do Dance Music for everyone! 🤘🏾🖖🏿🖤👽
I saw them a week after seeing Fatboy Slim , another great Big Beat artist I used to love equally as much. There was no comparison Chemical Brothers was big time rock concert good...stunning really.
still going strong!
Bit shite now, though
I grew up in Latvia and this song was at every party, club when it came out. Immensely popular.
I was 14 when this record came out. Blew my mind. Still holds up. Top ten. Desert Island. Play list.
This song also featured in the video game Wipeout 2097 (Wipeout XL) on playstation 1, that's how I discovered The Prodigy as well as other electronic stuff, and it does fit so well with the futuristic racing mood! I used to be very focused on rock/metal but this game sold me on electronic music, and 25 years later, I can see how much of an impact it had on my musical tastes :) You may want to check out The day is my enemy, Spitfire, Nasty or Breathe!
Same.
Yess yesssss yessss, alongside with Future Sound of London, Fluke and PHOTEK ... what an era it was...
RIP Keith Flint
This song reminds me of my highschool days 😅
Don't age us like that
Why is everyone cool exactly 40?
Been a huge Prodigy fan for more than 30 years.
This entire album is lovely.
I’ve always been a fan of metal, stonerrock and grunge. Prodigy is the exception to that, they are phenomenal !!
One of the most legendary bands over here in the uk . Funny to see people in the US dont know them
The first time I heard this song back then they played live for MTV’s Fashionably Loud live televised modeling show. I immediately fell in love with it! 😍 I did like going to raves back then, but I was chilling watching tv the first time I saw it. I saw them play live at Ultra Music Fest in Miami and they were amazing live! They were some of the original techno coming out of the UK in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Their breakout hit was “Charlie”, also a good song but you can tell they refined their style more by Firestarter and the entire album The Fat of the Land.
We need more prodigy reactions!
Maaaaaaan listening to a track of the fat of the Land always brings back memories
Man, this takes me back. My sister put me onto this way back. Still burned into my memory.
Diesel Power from the same album featuring Kool Keith 💪 I think you'll like that one more
Those 5 minutes just flew by when you were in the right state of mind...
This song rocks I always got on the dance floor for this song. I could listen to this song for hours.
I love listening to Prodigy, and `i've been lucky enough to see them play live a few times as well.
I would recommend you check out some of their official music videos - they add so much more
This topped the UK charts and several others in 1996. Still sounds fresh.
The video for this song is wild 😁🇬🇧 R.I.P. Keith Flint 💔
You guys need to understand the backdrop to when this came about. Firstly this became Xmas number 1 in the UK, the video is awesome. This was a time when the UK was the hot bed of the world for music development, with electronica re-inventing and electing genre. The prodigy brought together the breakbeat of the the early 90’s with punk and heavy riffs, so many metal and thrash heads got into electronic music, industrial was at its peak, Trip hop via Portished and Massive Attack, Drum and Bass, with Grooverider and Goldie, Adam F, and all the variations of house.. then electronica with the likes of Orbital, FSOL and Aphex Twin, not to mention. Banco de Gaia, System 7.. psachdelic with Ozric Tentacle’s… gosh us UK children of the 90’s were so spoiled for class music . For those that were there , if you know you know.
So much more these guys to explore. Other top acts like Leftfield, Finitribe, The Grid, Joey Beltram, Guy called Gerald, Fluke, Underworld, Jonny L, Richie Hawtin, William Orbit - might be easier to list record labels XL, FFRR, R&S etc. and then switch it up into IDM like Aphex Twin, u-ziq, Plaid, Boards of Canada - all thanks to pioneers from Detroit and Chicago
First time I saw Prodigy was at Four Aces club in Hackney... 91... Your Love... ❤ Eveeybody in the Place (Video filmed in NYC) ❤Outer Space.... We all did the Prodigy shuffle 😂... Leeroy & Keith 🔥 r.i.p Keith...Thank you ❤ Britcore/Breakbeat Hardcore/Darkcore
Great reaction guys! Thanks for being open minded. The Prodigy was music perfectly designed for the club. In that environment, you didn't notice nor feel the passage of 5+ minutes (no matter what your 'poison' of choice) - you were groovin' (hopefully with a fine lady or gent) and wanting that to last forever!
The only other place where I've had their tracks going was while driving. Again, where you don't really notice the passage of time.
Sitting in your easy chair at home - The Prodigy is NOT for that!
Highly recommend: Breathe (a little less repetitive, but just as awesome), and if you would indulge, Smack My B!tch Up is stellar!! Cheers.
Prodigy certainly is best in the club, but contrary to most dance music I think they also have albums that do very well sitting in my chair while gaming or whatever doing choirs in house. It's good listening music imo! Maybe this song wasn't the best fit for that.
Omen... Live from Milton Keynes bowl is unreal... The prodigy live are superb 👍
Saw these live in the 90's, epic!
Yeah!!! Minerva from Deftones pls
Great choice from Dean!💖 I love Prodigy! I was watching via Patreon but I missed the beginning of your show so I hopped over here. I like your reaction to this. Yes.... very rave like.😜
Their concerts where the bomb. You had Punks and Metalheads in the front forming moshpits and Technoheads and HipHopper in the back dancing.
Sepultura did a bitchin' cover of this song.
This is one of those songs that the music video was perfect for
Seen them live very early 90s before they got massive. Still astounding.
RIP kieth flint
THE PRODIGY GREAT OF ALL TIME FOREVER!!!!!!❤️💣🐜🐜🐜🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
At one point I had a lot of songs from this album on my workout playlist. Really encourages you to STEP STEP STEP STEP
I LOVE the little head-bobs once the beat kicks in. I think they're pretty much universal among all humanity; when the beat's good, your head can't help but bob.
I think for you boys, The Poison is next. Nasty groove off what i believe is the most important electonic record of all time, Music for thr Jilted Generation.
Reacting to The Prodigy without watching the video is a crime.
This is such a tune, loved that you guys hadn't heard it before and seeing you slowly vibe with the madness haha
What''s really important about this is how dark it is and yet it went to the top of the charts.
I always loved them!
This song is part of the soundtrack for trainspotting
Born Slippy is the iconic track from that though
Hearing the initial sound I am immediately warped back to the 90ies when mr. DJ dropped this bombshell without any warning and everybody was completely freaking out ... whereas on the long run Narayan and Diesel Power turned out to be my favourites
I really like it when you connect artists and styles like you did with Cry, D-Nice, and Rakim. I love seeing those threads across genres and time.
Interesting fact for you: Liam actually wrote the song without any vocals (it was supposed to be an instrumental track). Keith was just having fun singing over the top and Liam decided to keep it. Great decision! RIP Keith
The Prodigy - Diesel Power!
when you're out in the field raving at 2 in the morning, this is exactly the heat you want
One of my favorites 😍
What's even more interesting is that their video (Firestarter) is in black and white because they were cutting the budget and didn't have any more money to shoot it in color... And the sweatshirt that Keith wears in that video was bought at a thrift store that morning on the way to shoot that video... RIP Keith.. The rest is history
LOVE the prodigy
Voodoo people! Man, I loved Prodigy. This song was on the video game Wipeout XL. I loved it so much that I bought the albums.
If you're running or working out and just need to get hyped up, this is the shit. Def hard to be sitting and listening to this, haha.
I don't know man, that's exactly how me and my friends used to listen to this shit. Melted into a couch high as hell staring at the speakers.
@@DogmenHardcastle haha I feel it
the "Hey Hey Hey" is a looped sample from 'Close (To the Edit)' by Art of Noise (1984)... the song also contains sample of 'S.O.S.' by The Breeders (1993) and 'Devotion' by Ten City (1989)
Breathe is the song you want to listen to from them. It’s the song that blew my mind when I heard it. Minefields was the song off the Matrix Soundtrack.
I’m going to watch this later. But I’m going to go ahead and hit that like button.
You're dead on with the old school hip hop stuff. They've got a collab with Kool Keith that sounds like the late 80's at 2x speed
The Oldies radio station in my area played this song on 90's night last week. The DJ who took the request, said, "Well no one is listening anyway!"
But this was the music I loved to listen to in the 90's, not the pop on the radio in that time.
We were 18 yo and in the club, or at least in our heads
"Breathe" I remember it was on one of the Charlie's Angels movies with Cameron Diaz on a dirt bike
