    This is a career that we are proud of. We get angry when we see so much improper work being done and people being cheated. It usually boils down to the cheapest bid gets the job, but if the cheapest bid, costs you your trees, how much did you save?

    Good analysis. Unfortunately for me, and that tree being so close to the house, and any future disaster event, falling on the house, ... I would cut down the tree and start all over with correct placement of the tree away from the house.

    Curious: why (as a rule) take the largest suckers out and leave the smaller? Weak attachments and weight?

    • @arboristBlairGlenn
      @arboristBlairGlenn  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      When trying to reduce the overall mass, the heaviest weight should be taken out first. Those are also generally the longest with the most leverage on the limb. This process is only needed in cases where the tree has weaknesses.

    Blair, that tree in this video looks awfully close to the house. Trees that grow to that size can damage foundations and are not kind to roofs. How far away from the house should that tree have been planted in the first place?

    • @arboristBlairGlenn
      @arboristBlairGlenn  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      That species of tree, Liquidambar, is known for aggressive roots. Some corrective root pruning can minimize future foundation damage but it is always wise to know what a tree will become and plant it where it has a chance to develop.

  • @MrVenturadog

    Blair is one of the good guys! Question sir, I was up in a mid size maple and one of two main leaders looked as if it had buckled and fell off a while ago but there was a remainder of 4 feet or so of rotting and wood peckered wood left, I decided to take the rotting bit out so it wouldn't continue down the tree but I essentially had to top that limb. Did I make the right decision? also same day I was working a white oak and when I cam to an old wound I looked inside to see 2-3 inches of water basically nature bird bath, not wanting to make a massive wound I took off just enough of the bulge where the tree tried to heal itself off to drain the water and prevent future pooling, again did I do right? Sorry I don't mean to take too much of your time but your the best teacher I have right now... Thank you!

    • @arboristBlairGlenn
      @arboristBlairGlenn  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      1) Would have to see the wood.
      2) Better to leave cavities with water in them as opening it to drain just makes a bad situation worse. Read Alex Shigo to learn about his observations and experiments with trees.

    • @arboristBlairGlenn
      @arboristBlairGlenn  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Dougfir the power companies hire tree companies to do the work. It is the tree company that needs to train the worker but at the end of the day, it's all about the profit.

    we need to get the word out there so people will stop you should do a documentary. It pains me too see how many people do this to their trees all for the simple reason that they don't know it will hurt and later kill them. I watch people hire different tree trimmers than myself and in two years they want me to fix them. But most of the time it's to late and they have to be removed. The other guys trimming do not care they just want your money. That makes it hard on all of us that try to do good. WE NEED TREES PEOPLE THIS IS WERE YOU GET THE AIR YOU BREATH!!!!!!
