Congratulations Mr. Lovett! Much success on your future endeavors. Mayor Warren we appreciate you using your platform to allow this young man to shine.
Congrats to this young man, but I would also like to see those in leadership positions at this school held accountable. Speaking from personal experience, it is an insult to do your best, get excellent results, and then get blindsided by people who are supposed to educate and support you.
Congratulations on your achievement, Jaisaan! I have to wonder why the principle of a school meant to educate and encourage young men would stand in your way; kudos to you for not letting him bring you down. And thank you, Madame Mayor, for stepping in to make sure this young man received his due.
I strongly agree with all that is said for all people He use his head instead his fist and a thought out speech with aplomb. Kudos to him that he shown maturity as well.
This kid is phenomenal. Shame on Principal Munno for being too weak to allow a stong, intelligent black child to be great. However, Munno wasn't able to stop young Mr. Lovett from accomplishing his goal of becoming valedictorian, of giving a speech and of moving forward to pursue a higher education. Godspeed and God bless young Mr. Lovett!
You just made a whole bunch of assumptions about the principal. You never want people to make a snap judgement on you based on the color of your skin. So why would you make a snap judgement against the principal without knowing the background story? You just made a judgement against the principal because he is an old white man in a conflict with a black man. Racism goes both ways. Don't be racist. Stop making judgement without knowing all the facts.
Really Brian? She didn't make ANY assumptions. What she said was only facts, THE principal "munno" DID NOT allow the valedictorian to speak. That's not an assumption. Thats a fact. Nothing OP said was an assumption. Before you get angry and throw a temper tantrum online at least get the story straight. Now Sit down Brian.
The principal did allow the valedictorian to speak until a certain point. But lies that damage the school...that is another thing. A whole lot of things are lumped together with a part of the speech being cut off, but we know better than to fall for logical fallacies.
Julio Gio: Please be objective. This is what strongforu wrote "Munno wasn't able to stop young Mr. Lovett from accomplishing his goal of becoming valedictorian" Tell me if that is not saying Mr Munno wanted to stop Lovett from being a valedictorian? That is a huge accusation to say the principle was jealous of Lovett from becoming a valedictorian. You better back that statement up with some strong evidence. I don't know the full story. Do you? Nobody here has a reference to the full story, so why the hate? Why the accusation? Since MLK was shot, this hate has hurt the black people more than any white man generation after generation. To live in hate is the devil's curse. MLK never preached hate because it eats you up inside. Don't ever go there, ever. 2015 Charleston shooting at Methodist Church, instead of hate, those Christians went to the detention center to forgive Roof as Jesus had preached. One by one, they forgave him despite the hurt. 3 days latter, gov. Haley stated the Confederate flag must come down. That is the spiritual power of love.
Congratulations 🎊 Jaisaan! Continue on your journey with your head held high, stay strong, motivated, and focus! You are destined to do great things! Great speech! 😍 ♥ ♥ ♥
Yes Jaissan, yes! That principal couldn’t dim your brilliance and who you are. Go forward and move pass those that try to stand in your way. Your life and success matters. I commend you on your success and the Mayor of Rochester. She rocks!!!
Congratulation Jaisaan! Thank you to Mayor Lovely Warren for supporting Jaisaan! May your light always shine and be a beacon for others. Peace be with you.
Proud of you Jaisaan. You put aside the anger toward the principal and overcame the challenge. You not only met the challenge, but you exceeded and graduated Valedictyorian. Keep up the good work in college!
As a high school educator who teaches in Washington, D.C. and at a local university, I say, CONGRATULATIONS. I know you wanted to tell that principal to "kiss your gluteus maximus", but you did well by speaking truth to power and moving on to bigger and better things!. Stay strong and take the God Lord with you to Clark Atlanta U! How does the man still have the job? I posted this on my FACEBOOK page for all to see.
Always remember “cream always rises to the top” you are destined for greatness. Along your journey in life you are going to come across folks who will try to hold you back but always remember they are just hurdles to jump over. Congratulations!
Great speech from an intelligent young man. My thanks to you Mayor Lovely Warren for allowing it to be heard. And a super big Congratulations to Jaisaan Lovett for his achievements!!!
Thank you, Mayor Warren, for giving Jaisaan the opportunity to give his valedictorian speech. "You couldn't break me and I'm still here and I'm still here strong." This is a wonderful speech. I wish you all the best in your future, Jaisaan.
Congratulations Jaisaan. Nothing is going to stop you! Shame on those who tried, shame on those whose bigotry tried to silence you. Continue to speak loud and clear whenever you see injustice. The future is yours. You are amazing!
If he is capable of pulling an un-American stunt like this, it's probably because he feels he has the support of like-minded swine on the school board.
Why did they not allow him to speak at the school? He earned the title of valedictorian and he should have been allowed to speak at the school. Congratulations Mr. Lovett on your hard work in becoming valedictorian and your excellent speech.
Thank you Mayor Warren for standing up for Jaissan Lovett and for not allowing the masses to silence him. I'm sure you restored his faith in adults and free speech. I salute you sis.
Damn. I was blown away. What such a simple, honest speech. No fluff, no bs, admitted faults and credits to those who inspired him... and didn't sugarcoat the reason why the speech was done this way. It's clear he attained what he did to overcome a tenuous situation and wrapped it up as a teaching moment. Class and wisdom. This guy is going far in life.
Congratulations, young man! Your future will be filled with people who hinder you and people who help you. The most important thing: don't hinder yourself. Don't let the negative get you down. You are part of the best hope of this country. If your principal can't value your achievements, there are plenty of people who do! It is so humbling to hear you forgive and move on. I wish you every success. But more, I wish you happiness and satisfaction, and peace.
Thank you Jaissan. Thank you for standing up for what is right. Thank you for your dedication to doing well in your studies. And thank you for your great example. You will do well in life and I hope for the best for you and your's.
That was an awesome speech and you showed lots of courage with your forgiveness. Congratulations to you and your family for your achievement, many doors will open for you. Congratulations, keep speaking out!
Stay strong, you did good kid. They tried to stop you one last time, and now your message is going not only to you school and friends but around the world. Stay Strong, and greetings from New Zealand!
Thank you Mayor for allowing Jaisaan to speak. I am sorry that we still have not come as far as we should. Thank you, Jaisaan, for standing strong. God bless you in your future.
What an awsome young man. He has a lot to be proud of and will go far. To forgive the principal was more than I would have been able to do. I wish him the best.
Congratulations, Jaisaan Lovett! You persevered despite not having the support of your school's principal. I'm certain your family and friends are very proud of you, as am I. I wish you the very best at college, and I know that you have the maturity, intelligence and drive to make your dreams come true. Thank you, Mayor Warren, for stepping in and introducing this wonderful young man to the world!
Jaisaan, hold this success close to your heart. Remember it. Let it help you get through the tough times you will inevitably face . Not to put the hopes of all African-Americans on your shoulders, but you are a symbol of hope, of what can be done. We need your guts, strength and intelligence to shape a world of understanding and compassion. Heard this in some movie, "The world moves aside for the young man who knows where he is going." Keep focused on what is essential and know that not only African-Americans are following you, but a whole lot of young men from all races and religions are looking for your leadership. Lead on, Jaisaan!
Congratulations, Jaaisan! Rochester is proud of you and stands behind you. You're an inspiration. What your principal has done is disgusting. He ought to be ashamed of his racist behavior, and he needs to learn that racist actions and words have consequences. It won't be tolerated. So I implore Mayor Warren to please use your power and influence to get this man fired. He has no business being a principal of UPrep. The students deserve better than someone who holds hatred in his heart and weaponizes it against his students.
Good job bro. Just came to show support for your achievements and to protest the dishonor your school showed you as they should of let you do the speech loud and proud! Make us proud bro!
Congratulations Jaisaan! Excellent speech! Thank you Mayor Warren for such valuable and impactful leadership. I look forward to seeing more from both Jaisaan and Mayor Warren.
Jaisaan - you are an awesome young man and you should be proud of what you have accomplished. I see an incredibly bright future for you full of tremendous success.
I am going to be straight forward and honest. Number one it great to see "black folks" stick together against adversity. No one wants to admit that anymore. We all are told to be "one happy family" in this country but ever since the development of the USA, our so-called white counterparts have been against us. As Jaisaan stated, "I'm still here, and I'm still here strong." Jaisaan you get a great job and no matter the hate you receive you have support in Heaven and in Earth. There's no shame for being you and I am glad the courage to stand against injustice. Stay Strong my young brother.
Way to go Jaisaan. Interesting note. At this time there are 21,000 plus views. I wonder how many people would have heard his speech had he been allowed to proceed as expected. Instant Karma Mr. Principal.
Congratulations JL! You’re a MUCH bigger man than that principal- your parents and family have raised an awesome young man! CAU n HBCU’s rule! Look forward- leave the lil peeps watchin’ your tail lights grow dim... CONGRATS!
Congratulations Jaisaan. I hope a lot of people see. I clapped for you at the end too! It was a great speech! This is such an important to show everyone that racism is still very real and we need to acknowledge it and talk about it until there's nothing to talk about anymore. Best of luck to you in your future!
Congratulations Jaisaan! Great speech! You have the right attitude to become a successful person. The winners don't do what the losers do. The losers don't do what the winners do.
I feel his pain and applaud his ultimate victory. I was denied the title of Salutatorian of my school because I was deemed "not Christian enough", so I applaud anyone who beats prejudice of any form.
Jaisaan you are a role model. I am so proud of you and in awe of your humbling response to a cruel and unacceptable act done to you by administration and adults that should know better. When they aim low, you shoot high. I applause you Mayor Warren for stepping in and giving this platform to this wonderful and successful young man.
Jaisaan, I am so proud of you! You are the best of the future! Do great things! Forgive because it will clear your plate for the future. You are so inspiring! Dee
Well Jaisaan you have proven to be the better person. I listened to your speech and I heard courage, and forgiveness, not rage and anger. Your principal will have to live with the wrong, hopefully he could ask God to forgive him. As an educator I am so proud to see young men of every color striving for success in their life and in their education. Just keep up the good work!
You are an amazing young man to have achieved this honour, Jaisaan. And what a disheartening story: to have your earned right to speak for your class revoked from you without even a reason given. Disgrace falls on all those that kept you from standing in the spotlight you worked so hard to achieve. Continue to be outstanding and above the fray to show these unfortunates the proper way of respecting people and their right to not agree with establishment.
He has every right to be angry at UPrep, because the school does NOT "prep" its students for college success. Only 37% of students at UPrep obtain subject proficiency in mathematics, less than half in reading.
Jaisaan your spirit is strong and i wish you the best and most success as the best revenge of all. Your mom must be very very proud. Now the hard work begins keep going and don't let lazy people get in your way. Congratulations
Applause in western Kentucky, USA. Jaissaan, may you find your way through to that day when all these many years of work and study show you the door to your future, and our future. The difference we each make is in our choices. Much success to you and all your friends and associates.
Kudos to Jaisaan's parents, teachers and community for raising such a mature young man :). And thank you Ms. Mayor for giving him the platform to give the speech that was denied him when it should have been given. It takes a mature, and insightful man to choose to let go of animosity, especially if it is, or if it is felt to be honestly deserved. True forgiveness sets us free. Congrats to Jaisaan for his scholarship. I've no doubt he's going to go a long way in whatever his career choice is.
Came here after I read the story so I could support the views! CONGRATULATIONS My Black brother! ✊🏾 I wish you continued success. They can’t break you!
I salute you Jaisaan Lovett for your incredible achievement and defining moment and salute Mayor Warren who could've easily ignored this matter and we never got the story. I welcome a fight anytime over the Jaisaan Lovetts of our race, instead of the Michael Browns.
as a Gen Xer i'm feeling more and more like i'm living in the United States i read about in history books in school dealing with life in the country for African Americans during the pre civil rights era. wtf is happening?
Thank you Madame Mayor, for stepping in to let this accomplished young man receive the honor he had earned. Congratulations on a job well done, Jaisaan!
This principal just became infamous. What an idiot. This speech was now heard by over 30,000 people. I wish this man nothing but the best. To the principal, you are petty.

Congratulations Jaisaan. You worked hard and you deserve this. And kudos to the mayor for doing the right thing.
Jaisaan, you Mom must be very proud...congrats to both you and your mom!
I strongly agree with all that is said for all people He use his head instead his fist and a thought out speech with aplomb. Kudos to him that he shown maturity as well.
Awesome and amazing! Congratulations Jaisaan!
"Like" before I even watch it. Congrats young man. YOur future looks BRIGHT!!

O...we really wont... He destroyed a school to get his way
Thank you, Honorable Mayor Lovely Warren for doing what is right & just.
I wonder how long Mr. Munno will remain as principal of the school?
If he is capable of pulling an un-American stunt like this, it's probably because he feels he has the support of like-minded swine on the school board.
Hopefully not long.
much longer than he should.
So you “don’t use the word” but you do use the word? The irony of you trying to sound smart while saying something so stupid. Lol!
Hopefully not long. His ass needs to be fired. Let's make it happen.
Never let small minded people keep you down. Congratulations to Mr. Lovett who will go much further in life than Principal Munno.
Good speech, Jaisaan. Congratulations on achieving Valedictorian. The ribbon, rope and medal look good.
Why did they not allow him to speak at the school? He earned the title of valedictorian and he should have been allowed to speak at the school. Congratulations Mr. Lovett on your hard work in becoming valedictorian and your excellent speech.

Thank you for this! My family watched it together!
