    Can’t find the best operator if not everyone has went over there to compete

    I'm from Iowa, our local Cat dealer offered my boss and I a chance to participate. Of course my boss turned down this offer on account of he'd rather spend the day in the field making $ instead of taking the day off to attend.
    Iv been hoeing and dozing dirt for 10 years now, and would consider myself to be a better operator than anyone iv seen local. But because of my employers decision not to participate I won't get a chance to compete.
    I'm sure I'm not alone...

      Thanks for sharing this Boom. It's for sure a very real problem with trying to hold a competition of this sort in an industry where time is money. I'm not sure there is a good solution for it, but maybe if Cat establishes this as an annual or semi-annual competition and more folks in the industry become aware of it, more people will be willing to set aside time to participate in it. That being said, there were several guys at the part of the event I attended that own their own businesses and were taking time from work to be there. - Wayne

      @@EquipmentWorld making this a annual event would be amazing!
      Or having a individual state comp would be kewl too

      @BladeArtist 205 I still learn everyday.
      And Im not talking 10 years of 40hrs a week, we 70 to 90 hours a week. Could consider it equivalent to 20 years of work for your average Joe

      @BladeArtist 205 never said I was the "best"... Just better than most.
      What machine do you run?

    This in no way will show you the best operator , most great operators just did't have the time to push tires around and moving golf clubs, it's fun to see but your not gonna find the best this way;;;;;

      Dustin, definitely see your point. What should they have done differently?

      @@EquipmentWorld If you want to find the best, the test will have to be extreme such as track hoe start on a benchmark , let them dig 100ft and then check the grade, also the event I went to here in Al it was filled up with folks that have never been on a machine, it takes away from operators with skill waiting in line to get on a machine, who wants to stand in line for 2 hours to get on a machine, like do a pre test the day before or some way to get the wait in a better order;;;;;

    None of this shows real world abilities. First it is very rare for a person to both be great at running all 3 . For a front end loader. Put them in 992k , have them shave bone that is strongly adhered to coal in a pit ,and do so without taking an inch of coal . How fast you can truly load badly shot limestone, while not nastying up the coal or other material ,your going for ,under it . Put a dozer man in a 10T and have him do backfill work on a true 35% grade . This is ridiculous. Lol

    In NY we are Union. There is a hard line between what you are and are not allowed to operate and where. All excavators are Local 14 as are cranes over 50 tons hoisting capacity. Local 15 is loaders, bulldozers, Backhoes, bobcats, fork lifts and Lulls, trenching machines, pipe pulling, pumps, generators, welders, surveyors, etc.
    All that new tech is baloney. Anyone can push a tire around. I have seen local 14 guys move 15 foot boulders with a mini excavator. Try that. Or, how about the operator that is the most proficient in the most number of disciplines wins. Can your business manager send you to ANY job, and be confident that you are "that" expert? I say let's start at 992s and work our way down the lineup, including dozers, tracks loaders, Backhoes, pumps, generators, bobcats etc and end up with something like a Vermeer LM 25. Been there, done that. IUOE Local 15

    Really?? Those are the challenges for best operator lmfao cat makes great equipment absolutely love the new D6 with LGP and all angle with 30"pads and 8 roller track frame but these challenges dont show anything I work year round pit these guys in some serious hills on frozen ground that's difficulty try digging Ditch hooked to a winch line or lowering in pipe on those hills lmfao
