Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine is an underatted track but it's amazing. That catchy, singy bassline is the first thing of the Killers that you get attached to. I'm glad the band realized how memorable that bassline is that the crowd sung it.

In live versions, brandon sings "she kicked and screamed while I held her throat" instead of "while I held her close", showing that he was actually the murderer of his girlfriend.

I had no idea until my teacher in a criminal justice class started telling us about the "Preppy murder" case, and it was exactly like the song. It was inspired by an actual murder in the 80s.
*This* is why my dream is to write a one-hit wonder. Don't want to perform it. Just want to see a moment of perfection like this without any of the people knowing it was mine.
