My semester was online due to COVID and I took it while being inside Canada. However, at the last day of my class I returned to my home country and gave my exams from my home country and I’m coming back a week before commencement of my next semester. Will my PGWP be rejected as I gave my exams from my home country?

Hi Rachel, was it because she didn’t finish her program when she was supposed to or because she didn’t apply for PGWP anyways even while she was yet to complete her program. Would she have been issued PGWP if she was still studying?

You can't even change to visitor with restoration of status. You can only change back to what you had

College said that it's ok because schedule break is not for purpose of work permit and study permit and part time status would not be counted. I will still be classified as full time student if i meet other criterias and my PGWP will not be refused if i am part time only in schedule breaks

Hi Rachel.. I'm new to your channel and I love your videos, they are very informative. Anyway I have a question to ask. In applying to PGWP, you've mentioned that you can apply for it before your study permit expires. Does it mean that you can apply for it a month before you finish your program?
Hi dear, an excellent question. However, we must distinguish the two as they are separate occasions.
The expiration of your study permit is one instance and the other is finishing your program. They are mutually exclusive and may have varying timelines.
Take my case as an example: my study permit expires on Jan 2020 but my program ended on Oct 2019. Usually, IRCC gives you leeway to extend or change status in Canada.
You can ONLY apply for a PGWP if you’ve completed your program. That means, you received your Official Transcript and Letter of Completion from the school. Usually, it’s BEFORE your study permit expires.
Hence, you cannot apply for a PGWP if you are just near completion as that suggest not having completed your program. You need to wait for two 2 vital documents to submit a PGWP application.

No! You can’t work before your studies. You can only start working in Canada when your program has started. And it’s actually stated on IRCC’s website found here: www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/study-canada/work/work-off-campus.html

Hi Rachel, how about studying a 2-year program in a DLI-public college that offers online asynchronous (OA) and online and face to face(OF).If i choose online asynchronous/pure online/OA 2 courses while 3 courses are OF, will this affect my pgwp eligibility up to what extent?
There maybe some issues that will impact your PGWP eligibility and the length of your PGWP.

After completing 2 years of full time graduation & co op work in BC about hairstyling , ( NOC B), but PGWP is not available in that college , can I still get work permit in BC after my graduation? If yes than how? Your reply is Must needed..
Its possible but its difficult. You may need assistance from an authorized representative (lawyer or consultant).

Your question is a bit confusing. Can you please restate it? Are you asking if you finished your program before your study permit expires or if you finished your program AFTER your study permit expires.

Hi. Thanks for sharing this. Have a question on PGWP. it is often mentioned that a 2yr program will give you "up to 3yrs" PGWP. Is it a given that the duration is 3 yrs or is it still dependent on ircc? Thanks!
IRCC policies to the visa officer states that a 2 year program "should lead to" a 3 year PGWP. So, at the end of the day, the visa officer has discretion to grant you the 3 years or not.
However, it is rare that they don't.

Hi Rachel, for this case, the student can renew/extend the student permit incase she needed more time? Or the student should finish the studies before the permit expires?
She should have applied for a PGWP on time. Its best to be prepared well in advance of any immigration deadline.

Please look at the requirements in order to get a PGWP. I believe one of the requirements is that you must have completed your program.

If I do the credits waiver , from 30 credits in a year down to 24 credits in a year (PDD) . Is there possible that they give me only 8-10 months PGWP? My agent told me to do full 30 credits in order to get full 1 year PGWP. So I’m wondering... thanks for help Rachel!
First, your question is an immigration related question and I wouldn't rely too much on your agent's advice.
Second, seek legal help from an immigration lawyer to get clarification before you enrol in your chosen program. This will save you so much more time, money and headache.

No restrictions on working after your get your PGWP! So you can work to your heart’s desire but I hope that it’s skilled enough to qualify for express entry or other PR programs 😊

Hi po, ano po ba next once your hired under a pgwp visa? Is it automatically converted as a work permit? What happens when it expires? Puro 1 year program lang kasi available for accounting 🥺 I'm not sure what will happen after i am issued a 1 yr pgwp.
Does it affect PGWP if someone fail a course in college & extend study permit? ie. The course supposed to be completed in 2 yrs but is completed in 2.5 or 3 years.

As per IRCC website, you can remain in Canada on implied status and continue working while waiting for a decision on your PGWP application - even if your study permit has expired :)
As long as you submitted a PGWP while holding a valid study permit- you can work full time until a decision is made on your PGWP. Hope that helps!

Hi its me again, what if my school is not applicable for PGWP. Then i applied for PGWP, Is there a possibility of refusal?
I was only given 6 months of PGWP based on the validity of my passport. I flew outside Canada to renew my passport but I couldn't return because of the locked down. my question is: How to apply for an extension of PGWP if I am outside Canada? Keep in mind that all the Canada visa application centers are closed in the country I live in and I can only apply online. It is clearly stated on the IRCC website that I must apply on paper for an extension. Also, my current PGWP is already expired.
Have you tried applying for a passport renewal from inside Canada? Aren’t there consulates or embassies that can assist you in that matter? 😊 once you renew from within Canada, you can apply for an extension to get the full length of your PGWP And maximize building skilled work experience here in Canada 🇨🇦

Hello i need your advise on my PGWP refusal twice. My study permit expired on july 30th 2022 but i had applied for pgwp on may 13th 2022 but then I received refusal on sept 13th 2022 mentioning i wasnt a full time student then again on sept 28th 2022 i applied for pgwp and received refusal on 7th feb 2023 mentioning i wasnt a full time student and i was out of status which makes me ineligible for pgwp even though i had included my restoration fee in my second application. Urgent help and since i cant afford consultation i need advise that i can follow on my own.

PGWP is applied after your have completed your studies. PGWP eligibility will more on the school. There are thousands of programs that are PGWP eligible so its quite hard to list it all.

I have a question. I am in the opposite situation of the video. Initially, I was enrolled in a 3-year program, my study permit was issued for three years. however I changed to a 2-year program, So now I finished my program and I will apply for the PGWP, do you think this can be a problem with IRCC? I don’t think so as long as you’re a full time student all through and work only 20 hours you’re good

Hello Rachel, I have a question, please. Why did her program finish after her study permit expired? I thought immigratiom gives you study permit that covers the start to end date as indicated on your admission letter?

That would depend on how many subjects/credits you would take per academic session. As long as you take 9 credits and above to be considered a full-time student, you also have an option to take a break during spring and summer.

Generally, those two are exclusive events from PGWP consideration.
From my understanding, if you’re earning in CAD working for a CAD employer off-campus as a FT student- then you must abide by the 20 hour work week restriction. I’m not fully sure how it works but that’s an interesting question you posed.

I want to take my second course and it’s just 8 courses for 8 months, so it will be 4 courses per semester but I can transfer my previous credit to my second course , and it will be 3 courses for 1 semester, (7course in total). It will be a problem???

I changed my college and when i changed my college they stopped my study and after stopping this i forget and work one month on sin without study. But i worked only 20 hours in week. What it's impact on pgwp or not and now I'm studying regularly..

Probably .
3year program = 3year pgwp
As far as I know, 3 years is the maximum for a PGWP, so even with a 4 year program you would have a 3 year PGWP

Unfortunately, you will have to leave at the end of your study permit expiry date.
It's possible to find a closed work permit after graduation, however, this is extremely difficult to get.
Another suggestion is to find a school that is PGWP-eligible and transfer there to finish off your education. If you are considering this option, you can send me an email to rrdancel@canxvisa.com. You may need to go through an education assessment to find a school that suits your needs and one that you are eligible to transfer to or apply to.

Based the tweet I read from IRCC, you can be self-employed while studying in Canada. As long as your study permit allows you to work - but keep to the Max 20 hours per week.
Working from home for a company in another country doesn't count as working in Canada. The limitation of 20 hours doesn't apply. 👍
You can apply for your pgwp now even with an expired Study permit until you find a job(work only after applying for pgwp) or get your documents from college within 180 days.
But it’s still ideal to apply for a PGWP before study permit expires since that is the requirement found on the IRCC website 😊
