That's one less thing we have to worry about for anime and manga. But they're not out of the woods yet. The UN and credit card corporations are still the biggest obstacles to face right now.
Considering all the hullabaloo this deal has caused over the few weeks, this result feels weirdly underwhelming imho. Not saying it to be all that optimistic, but at the very least, the worst case scenario has been dodged, regardless of how people still feel about Sony right now. There will always be this stigma to be had when it comes to major business deals like this when the internet takes wind of them.
@mappybc6097 even if you tell them to the face, they'll still claim those other options are better off cause "Chinese anime on the rise" and such....even though that's absolutely not how it works.
What I want are anime movies getting put in more theatres, for longer periods of time, and recieving Subs faster to air on the same dates. Closest theatres for me are 3 hours away, and theyre only in it for a single week. Doubt anything would change, but there needs to actual marketing for overseas
Luckily, the 2 theaters that are 15-30 minutes from my house usually show most anime movies, but I wish they'd have more showtimes during the day instead of them playing between 7-10pm once per night.
No lie. This in conjunction with the ongoing payment BS and localization censorship would have spelled doom at least for the foreseeable future of what we get over here.
Gotta admit I was a bit of a doomer here and thinking their ip and sites like bookwalker were gonna take a turn for the worst. I'll still be vigilant but I'm happy the deal isn't as scary as it could have been.
I'm ok with this result as long as they don't have enough control to censor stuff at the source. My favorite genre is fantasy and my favorite types of fantasy are isekai and tensei and I don't want those to change at all. I like them as they are
Absolutely! That’s what my hope is as well. And hopefully, with the other ownership groups, having 90% control, in addition to Kadokawa, then that is exactly what will happen. If Sony tries to censor stuff, that those other ownership groups and Kadokawa, will step in and say no.
If anyone wants an example what censorship looks like take utube how bad things can get they start out slow and in the future u cant even use basic words in ut vocabulary
Yes, but at the same time, pulling the trigger too early in making assumptions isn't necessarily a good thing, either. It can create terrible misinformation that can cause bad reactions that could even indirectly affect the actual situation itself. Social media is too powerful an influence nowadays. I think it's more advisable at the moment to just sit back and observe, cause what much else can we actually do?
@@Ryuseishun yes but at least we can speak up because they will start producing new anime with more mass appeal to get the most money look at most utube channels censor on their own to get more 💰 and adsense
So, from what you’re saying, it looks like that it’s the best of both worlds? I mean i’m glad they don’t have full ownership, but with 10% ownership, they still have a bit of influence over certain projects, which concerns me. Hopefully, the other ownership groups will get together if Sony becomes too overreaching.
I’m curious if other large shareholders care or want to ever go against Sony tho. The others listed seems like finance holdings and not in the game of media business.
It's not solely 1 shareholder you should be worried about, it's the 5-10 that also buys similar levels of shares, but are affiliated or coordinates with one another under the table, where you don't notice. It doesn't matter which shareholder holds how many shares in percentage, it's whether the agenda of all of these shareholders correlate into a group mentality.
This is just a step. We still need to watch them especially now that its over for now. Especially Tencent because on a high executive level, japan still hates being under a chinese company.
At least Kadokawa will at least keep their own independence. SONY still part of the company at 10% more than before, but at least they are kept away from Yen Press and Yen On.
I only hope they don’t start to do things that effect the way they produce future anime, like censorship and cutting out scenes due to it being overly sexualised or gruesome etc… we can only hope
If Tencent took majority of shares then we won't be having woke garbage on anime but alas it's Sony. Sony Japan has same level of woke shit as Sony US so its over for anime. Upcoming anime will def hv woke shit along with heavy censorship.
Yet Hiroki Totoki confirmed Sony Corp have $15 billion on hand for acquisitions, last time I checked $15 billion is more than the $3.75 billion Kadokawa is worth
Kadokawa has so much history and influence in the media across the world. Would be a shame to see them bought out to have their name just disappear. Glad to see they still hold on to their IPs and decision making still. With the L's Sony has been taking the past 3 years it's no wonder they pushed so hard for this. Sony could potentially pull themselves out of the hole they have dug. Just hope they don't meddle to much in artistic freedom in projects that they grab. Sony has been ruining the industry imo, hopefully this makes them do a 180 and be more consumer friendly, and not just take more control of the industry and strangle it.
Sony shouldn't be allowed to own anything at this point, even get 1% of this company is a horrible idea. In the last 10 years everything Sony has touched has gone to complete shit!

Mostly because people that are into anime only didn't understand how much worse than Sony Tencent and Kakao really are.

It also depends on what agreements were made between Sony and Kadokawa to seal the deal.
The worst outcome avoided so glad Sony doesn't have full control
No lie.
This in conjunction with the ongoing payment BS and localization censorship would have spelled doom at least for the foreseeable future of what we get over here.
The worst possible outcome was Tencent or Kakao buying them.
What about the concerns over censorship?
That was what 90% of what people were worried about.
Given this foggy situation between Sony JP and Sony U.S.
the U.S. side of Sony is in California, which is on one side of a heavy topic.
There are specific wording which is required to answer the question.
Nothing changed about it. It will be the same as they were before. It's fine
Nothing change, Sony JP has owned Aniplex and has been making anime for a while. Nothing was censored there.
Strangely the best outcome. An actual mutually beneficial agreement that doesn't monopolize the entire process of a medium.
But how are they so rational about it? It's Sony. Hmm... probably they're being sneakier than we give them credit for.
The Tencent option was the worst case scenario
I'd be all for a live action R18 High School DxD adaptation!!
Also Bunnygirl Senpai.
😂😂
about the only way live actions would be somewhat watchable.

After watching this video I need a good "Live Action Anime" tier list video
As long as anime isnt sanitized ill be happy ^^
Agree : ))

I'm glad that Sony did not buy katakawa out completely like we were all fearing, just like they did funimation

There's still the Kpop conglomerate on the table, also bad for Kadokawa

The only way we ever get a good live action is if it is a big budget with top name studios and actors in the USA!
anything Sony is bad
Sony of Japan > Sony of America
S.O.J. owns a specific studio.
I agree its overall bad, since S.O.J. Isn't spanking S.O.A
They have lost their way bad and need to get rid of the american branch that has way too much pull for their own good.
