“I’d Just Leave This Here to Gather Strength”
These were the exact words of a very elderly professor to me some days ago. I had gone to the staff kitchen to make a cup of hot milo for myself at about the time for ‘afternoon tea’ (even though it’s a very hot summer season, some of us still like our beverages hot, especially under the often chilly central AC of the building).
While I was trying to make my beverage, that elderly man came close to where I was. He filled his mug with boiling water from the hot-water tap and dropped a tea bag in it. Then he uttered those words - “I’d just leave this here to gather strength”. Those words jumped at me and I repeated them out loud. In response, he said, ‘yes’, and said those words again.
Just then, the Holy Spirit ministered to me and I will share His lessons. You see, many times we go through very difficult and ‘hot’ situations and wonder where God is at. It’s interesting that sometimes God allows the devil to flex his wrinkled muscles, passing us through stormy waters and fiery flames, with the hope of crushing our spirits, causing us to give up, or to disbelieve God and His precious promises. Many times, God Himself takes us through those processes with a glorious conclusion in the plan - that part, many of us do not see.
Beloved, God is a very (and the only) wise God! Consider that cup of tea: If that water was cold, the strength and aroma of the tea bag would not be quickly or totally infused into the water. However, the longer that tea bag spends in the hot water, the richer the tea solution would become and even the stronger its aroma would be released and diffused (especially for fragrant teas like lemon and ginger which I prefer).
Child of God, don’t jump the process! If that tea bag was taken out of the hot water prematurely, it would end up being a great addition to the compost bin, but it would not have fulfilled the purpose for which it was made. God is very jealous for, and intentional about every detail of your life, if you are His child, and are walking consistently with Him. Be not discouraged God’s beloved! That challenge, or trial, or hardship, is for your life to bring forth pleasant aroma to God and to the world. “For we are to God the sweet aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.” - 2 Cor 2:15
The Almighty wants to use your story for His glory (consider Sarah, the man born blind - John 9:1-2, Elizabeth, and many others). He still can, and wants to, turn your mess to a strong message that showcases His herculean power (Eze. 20:41, consider Samson). “Yet He knows the way I have taken; when He has tested me, I will come forth as gold.” - Job 23:10. Do not despise your time of trial so that you will not miss your day of visitation! God tests us so that He might approve of us and commit greater things into our hands, for without a test, there can be no promotion (Isa 48:10, Psa. 66:10)!
“See, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have tested you in the furnace of affliction.” - Isa 48:10.
“For thou, O God, hast proved us: thou hast tried us, as silver is tried.”- Psa 66:10.
We must also note that God disciplines us when we go astray, because of His great love, and so that we will not perish (Isa. 48:10, Zech. 13:9, Heb. 12:5-7, 2 Pet. 3:9). Any child a father does not correct is actually unloved!
“And you have forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons: “My son, do not take lightly the discipline of the Lord, and do not lose heart when He rebukes you. For the Lord disciplines the one He loves, and He chastises every son He receives.” Endure suffering as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father?” - Heb. 12:5-7 (BSB)
Be encouraged! God is (still) mindful of you! Like a refiner of silver, He is refining you! Do you know why many of us like gold? Because it has gone through a very tough process of purification, even by fire - Psa. 12:6 (gold in its raw form is unappealing)! Prayerfully endure the process God is taking you through. To you, God is still saying, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you” - Jer. 29:11-12 (BSB). That baby will come in Jesus’ name! That job, that key, that Godly spouse, that appointment, that promotion, that long-awaited healing will come, and that now, in Jesus’ name!!! Don’t give up on God!!
Howbeit, be not ignorant of the devices of the devil; he comes to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). As one who has been made a king and priest unto God (Rev. 1:6), one with great authority in the name of Jesus, you have strength with God! Vehemently and prayerfully destroy and oppose every work of darkness in every area of your life! Be not slack in walking with God in holiness and true righteousness, take your prayer life seriously, and feed our Spirit with strong doses of the living and ever potent Word of God - those pills work!!! Don’t just be religious for religion is powerless against the forces of darkness. Know your God!
I pray for you this day, that just as God released a blessing upon the earth when He smelled a sweet aroma (Gen 8:21), receive grace and strength, that your life shall release a sweet aroma to Him and He shall pronounce His covenant blessings upon you! I pray that you will not fail God. I pray that you will not become fainthearted just when your breakthrough is at the corner! You shall finish well and strong in Jesus’ mighty name! Amen!!! Stay lifted! I love you with the love of Christ!
