Eric, this is an old video but it just helped me fix my insanely loud lion master big boy. Thanks for all you do for the hobby, never would have took this on without the video

Hi Eric! Thank you for posting this video. I have a LionChief Hudson 4-6-4 that started to make some fan motor noise. This video helped a ton. Just a little oil, and the noise is now gone. Plus, the fan motor seems to be spinning more efficiently because the train went from good amount of smoke to "Holy cow!" amount of smoke. ;) Thanks for all you do to contribute to the hobby!

Brilliant tutorial! I recently purchased a Lionel 2023 big boy and my dealer (Milepost 38) told me that all of the latest big boys have smoke unit problem of leakage, they are repairing the problem. I was just checking if you had heard anything.

Yes, thanks. Lionchief GP7 2.0 started becoming very noisy, three days into ownership. This fix looks easy enough.

Excellent video Eric! You sound so professional - love how you made it very, very clear it wasn't an issue that was common to Lionel because a lot of folks watching might suspect that. You're the kind of guy I like to envision as the one working on my trains or the mechanic at the auto repair shop - LOL...

Thank you so much!!!!! As a post war runner and collector I am not used to this lol. I have 6 MTH engines and my most recent purchase was 2f40ph’s that had very little run time. Both smoke units were loud. Did what you mentioned. Let’s say $$$$$ saved. Thank you for the great video and detail. Subscribed!!!!

@Eric'sTrains I am not really comfortable opening up my locomotive as I'm just worried I'll mess something up. Should I try to fix it myself or drive for 2 hrs to get it fixed at a good train store? It is a lionchief plus gp7. I do not want to drive somewhere and pay if it's something I feel confident about.

+Steven Michael Go to amazon and search for "4 prong pickup tool" and you'll find it. It's around $5. I think they're mean for jewelers who need to pick up diamonds but they work great for screws.

I was wondering if you could make black smoke and if you could add another smoke unit to the rear of the engine, and possibly slicing little 'vents' into the shell were the vents are already at, just not open. Just to get a more real look. Is that possible? Has anyone done it on the forums anywhere?
