      Patates Tiganites- Greek style French fries, hand cut and fried in olive oil. Try topping them with oregano, feta and a squeeze of lemon. Tzatziki is a good dipping sauce for them too.

      How about the German "Mantaplatte"? It consists of a German Currywurst and French Fries (seasoned with salt and smoked paprika) topped with ketchup and mayo. Oh, and another suggestion: Poutine.

      Poutine isn’t Canadian. It’s Québécois. Sorry, but all poutine I’ve ever had outside Quebec has been horrendous. Toronto, especially, is a poutine desert. Lots of things that claim to be poutine, but are really just cardboard masquerading as the real thing.

    • @Bevity

      @@jjgdenisrobert So Quebec has finally separated from Canada.

    • @jjgdenisrobert
      @jjgdenisrobert 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@Bevity Food is cultural, not a form of government. And Quebec culture doesn’t have much in common with Canadian culture. I’m a Quebecois living in Toronto. I know what I’m talking about. You can’t get a decent Poutine, a decent smoked meat, or even a decent bagel outside Quebec. There’s a restaurant here that claims to be a Montreal restaurant, yet they actually served me a smoked meat with about 3 slices of New York style pastrami on stale bread with Dijon mustard. Last poutine I had, had cardboard fries (from one of the so-called “best poutine” restaurants in TO), and pale gravy. Proper poutine fries need to be greasy enough to seep all the way through the bag, be dark brown, and soft.
      When Canadians stop insulting our food culture with such blasphemy, then they can claim our food. But they have to first show the basic respect it deserves.

    • @Bevity
      @Bevity 3 ปีที่แล้ว +51

      @@jjgdenisrobert I really hate to break it to you, but you are Canadian.... sorry, but you are. I believe you 100% about your food though. I was in Quebec a year ago but drove through it and didn't stop to eat. I could have had excellent poutine! I missed out. And it's not Quebec cuisine, but I would KILL for a pastrami sandwich. Want to talk about bad food... I moved to Sweden from the dreaded Canada 22 years ago and I miss what you don't even like. I would gladly take second best.

    Ok so the chip butty - it’s not really just late night food! This is something you’d eat at any time but you’d get the chips from a chip shop. So they’re thick, deep fried, greasy chips with salt and vinegar and then you need the cheapest softest white bread you can find, tonnes of butter on both sides and then the ketchup too. The bread should go almost soggy from the greasy and then it’s perfect!!

    • @Cheese_Kun

    My first time having a chip butty was when I made it this year. I live in Idaho but I'm originally from the UK, and I decided to make some home-cooked chips. I seasoned them up with several different spices including garlic salt and black pepper, and cooked them in a pan with butter. I also toasted some slices of white bread and put some ketchup inside along with the chips. Phenomenal sandwich. Sat in my stomach like a brick because I had TWO of them. My dad enjoyed them as well. Make your best chips, make your best toast, squirt a bit of ketchup, and call it a day.

    When I was studying in the Soutwest of England, we would have cheesy chips at 1am, I.e. chips (French fries) with grated cheese of top.

    I understand that it's a little too early to say, but seeing you try all these dishes from essentially the world, I *really* would be looking forward in seeing what you deem the best out of the best >

    I can imagine why the Chilean girl thinks the "Chorrillana" originated during the Pacific War. "Chorrillana" is how you call a lady from the area of Chorrillos, an area in Lima that was occupied by the Chilean army. They might have only taken the name cause the area is actually typically of fishermen. I grew up there so I should know 😊

    In Ireland, Chinese takeaways have taken on board the Irish obsession with potatoes and started adding a dish that's just called a 'spice bag' onto their menu about twenty years ago. Other takeaways quickly caught on and now you can get it just about anywhere. It's fried salt and chilli chips, salt and shredded chilli chicken (or tofu), red and green peppers, sliced chili peppers, fried onions, jalapenos and lots of spices! It's all mixed up together in a bag and delicious!
