I remain mostly silent and pray. More than that risks the sin of gossip, disobedience or even calumny. I believe that we are being tested by God (Tobit 12:13 Vulgate). Since the Church is not a democracy, do we pass or fail?
My biggest holdup with the Thesis is that if Vatican II teaches heresy (which it does), then all those who follow it are, as per 1917 CIC, ipso facto outside the Church, and have tacitly resigned their offices. This means that all those offices are, in essence vacant, because the men holding them are not Catholic. I need that explained for me to move closer to the Thesis.
Here is how it could happen. The Cardinals elect someone they believe is a reliable modernist. Say a new Saul. That person is riding to Rome to assume his office when he is struck down by a lightning bolt and knocked from his "horse". Let's say he is blinded by the light, but after three days he miraculously recovers his sight (perhaps by the intervention of some holy person). Upon recovering his sight he declares that he now sees that he must renounce the Vatican 2 sect, repudiate the council, and restore the church. He declares all of the cardinals and priests of the Vatican 2 sect to be null and void and starts to re-ordain and re-consecrate the clergy under the traditional rites. Anyone who won't submit to this is laicized. Now, that would be something to see!
As a layman, which most Catholics are, i simply can not reason that by the 'order of law'...one who had not the authority actually did have authority to give non-Catholics the authority to elect a pope. It does not make sense to me. If God gives us wretched creatures a pope again, it will be a miracle, and we will all recognize the miracle...however He manifests it. Until then, ill try my best to live a Catholic life, raise a Catholic family, and win souls to Christ. I dont see how this topic is beneficial for the laity to immerse in the meantime. We arent canon lawyers, we struggle to carve out 30 minutes of daily devotional reading while trying to support a family. And if its not simple enough for simple Catholic to grasp, then... Ill await the miracle, even though we dont deserve one.
