My parents are from Puerto Rico. They eat tons of white sweet potatoes. The actually like them more than the red. I use the whites for desserts. Make the best pies. The cows just loved the vines. The baby calves are amazing. Love how well y'all take care of all your animals. They eat well and are loved.
Cynthia, I'm seeing your comment 4 years after you left it, and just wanted to say I hope you were able to get out of the city and are enjoying a peaceful life. ♥️🙏🏻🇺🇲
Danny & Wanda, I love your Dexter cows. I first found out about Dexters in Mother Earth News years ago. We had over 7 acres, but my husband nixed the idea of animals except chickens and cats. He eventually accepted a dog that came to live on the property. I know I'll be able to make friends with lots of animals in Christ's kingdom. God's original purpose for the Earth was to extend the Garden over the globe. "Thy will be done on earth, as it is in Heaven." You and Wanda seem to be doing an excellent job of managing your portion of "the Garden." I guess I'll be looking for some white sweet potatoes. 😊
Next year I'm going to try the white sweet potato. I love how you can interface with your Dexters and how gentle and loving each one is. How can a person not be happy in such a peaceful environment.
those moments with the cows are peaceful and enjoyable. We enjoy our neighbors longhorns which come over almost every day to graze. They are beautiful and just tranquil to watch their behavior. Great times go by so fast. thank you for sharing
I am so happy that I planted my sweet potatoes in the ground like you said instead of in a glass jar to grow my slips. I have been trying to grow Sweet potatoes and they never grow. I just gave up until I saw your video on how to grow slips and let me tell you I have 50 slips so far and they keep on coming. So thank you so much for all your help and May God bless you and your family.
That was a very beautiful ride, I enjoyed every minute of it. The sun between the clouds was a glorious sight though it was a short glimpse. Beautiful environment.
My Grandma always wanted the white sweet potatoes for her sweet potato pies. I personally prefer the white to the red. What a wonderful harvest. Blessings to you both. I greatly enjoy your channel.
Absolutely love the music in your last few videos, so relaxing. I am trying the white sweet potato this year along with the orange and red. I am in Montana so I grow my in large containers and can move them to warmer, protected areas as fall approaches. It really isn't all that warm yet so getting a slow start. So enjoy all your videos and love the Biblical ones. You and Wanda are such a blessing to so many and this is what's needed with all that is going on. Thankyou for all you do and sharing your knowledge with all of us.
Gorgeous morning! We eat sweet potatoes almost every day in some form. It’s become a real staple for us. I use raised beds due to ground gopher problems, Have to protect from below with hardware cloth but it works for us. I had some extra slips and soil and compost and an old metal garbage can so I planted the slips in that and got some beautiful sweet potatoes in there... easy harvest too just dumped it over! God bless you.
I grew a purple sweet potato started from an organic from Sprouts. It was deep purple all through. I grew it on under landscape fabric and had my best harvest ever. My favorite is whites but I was unable to source any slips this year with the pandemic and couldn’t find any organic whites from the store. I prefer whites only since they don’t change the color of soups when I can them. They have a nice dry texture just like the purple.
I am from the Caribbean. Eat all kind of roots vegetable. Yuca, ñame, yautia , malanga = yams. Sweet potato = 3 types of batata ( yellow, white, orange " mameya")
A beautiful morning in the neighborhood :) Grandfather would plant celery in the late winter and follow with white sweets as the spring came on. A good deal of it was ground for cattle fodder.
What a beautiful harvest! You’ll be eating well this Winter! You all work so hard and put me to shame. I got my peas planted and i was DONE. You both just keep going like the Energizer Bunny!
I've never heard of white sweet potatoes,I live in upstate new york( not the city) I am going to have to look for them! My mom is ninety one and this year was first year I had to do most of the planting of her garden but she was able to tend it,,she learned from my grampa, but we are already missing going to the garden and picking the veggies for dinner. Ms Wanda I am looking forward to trying out your gluten free recipes ,I am told the cookbook has been shipped! Thank you so much for your videos!God Bless
Okay, Mrs. Wanda, I know you only had 1 cookbook left the other night on the LIVE broadcast, and you said you'd need several requests before you'd do another order. Would you PLEASE consider this MY COOKBOOK REQUEST? ♥️👏🏼🤪 My husband HATES sweet potatoes so much, but he's a practical man, and if I could "dress 'em up enough," he just might survive a famine.😂🙄👍🏼 THIS VIDEO AND THE MUSIC WAS ONE OF THE B E S T you've produced!♥️♥️♥️
yes, if there is one thing I'll plant every year it's potatoes. I'll have to try a white sweet potato. I had pest pressure on the greens on all my plants, but the tubers were lovely & I still have more to dig out. What a wonderful food that keeps well, easy to prepare, gives great nutrition & satisfies hunger. When the shortages hit in the hard part of the pandemic there were no potatoes to be had in our groceries.
Ya all's homestead looks like heaven to me....even though I could never handle the heat....its beautiful guys. How many acres do ya all have ?? Definitely going to try white sweet potatoes next season.....had some mice damage on the red sweet potatoes.....but they did really well even though we had virtually no rain most of the summer. We could never hit the 150 day mark here......if we can get 120 days with no frost we are doing well. Still need to watch what nature knows.....had a rough day health wise Saturday but am back to myself today.....guess I over did it last week so the wife said😐 seeing Miss Wanda with the cows reminds of growing up...always threw garden scraps and weeds over the fence for the cows. Have a great week at Deep south😊
I won,t be able to stand up straight for days after watching this. My back and knees are killing me. But seriously, I would have to have someone pick those up on trade. Scoliosis, arthritis and bad knee cartlidge. Thank y'all for the video.
Lol everyone homesteading channel I watch has an animal named Dollie or Minnie. My name is Dollie and my little companion dog is named Minnie. Love y'alls channel! Keep up the awesome work and I cant wait to see the taste testing! Wish I could get white here I'll be on the lookout next year.
Great advise. I am not sure what kind of white sweet potato I have but I have grown them for years. Mine are sweet a little more firm then the orange. I love them. They produce more and are more versatile. Love to watch sweet potato harvest. Have you ever grown okinawan purple? My favorite for taste.
We ate the purple potatoes in Japan. They are much sweeter than white. Like candy. Use milk instead of the cream when you whip them for a souffle. They'll soak up too much cream. A big scoop of sour cream and a stick of butter, too. After the milk. Then bake with a layer of chopped pecans, melted butter over a generous covering of dark brown sugar. Guests will fight over it.
If anyone wants a garden fork that will last till thd end of time. Check out bully tools garden fork with t handle. All steel welded design. Not too bad of a price for one thats almost unbreakable
My sweet potatoes seem to be going into a growth spirt with the cooler weather. I am in Central Texas and this is my first time growing them. I think they are getting ready to bloom! Will that hurt the harvest and I am really not sure if they are ready to harvest. Should I just dig a few and see?
I’d never heard of white sweet potatoes until you started digging yours up in earlier videos this year. What variety are they called and where do you get them? Awesome harvest, it’s fun to watch. I’m having a hard time digging mine because the ground is like cement. Your cows are so pretty.
cul de sac grocery garden There’s only ONE cure for cement soil: MULCH, MULCH, AND MORE MULCH! Set one section aside, cover it in cardboard, mulch on top of the cardboard, and wood chips and/or sawdust on that. Next year (yes, it takes TIME) you can put holes through the mulch and cardboard to plant. DO NOT PLOW THE MULCH! Start another section. 99% of the time, the soil has been starved and overworked. EARTH MUST BE FED! DO NOT NOT NOT USE CHEMICALS! Chemicals have been PROVEN to destroy the soil biome. Think steroids. Short term, the results are amazing, but life is not short term. (Lives, yes, but not LIFE) Long term, the results are WORSE than when you started. It’s exactly like an addiction: you have to use more and more to get the same results, until everything dies. Recommended reading: Dirt, and The Hidden Half of Nature, both by David R Montgomery. You may be able to borrow them from your library.
Vicki Savage rest assured I never use chemicals. This was purchased soil from a local nursery to fill large metal troughs during lockdown so we had to take what we could get. I plan on using lots organic matter between now and next spring!
What variety are the white sweet potatoes? I am growing mine in 15 gallon fabric grow bags; 4 of them. I have 2 bags each of Vardaman and Bush Porto Rico varieties. I still haven't tried to harvest them. If the amount of vines are any indication of productivity I'll do pretty good lol. Thanks!
This is my question when you're growing the seeds that you're going to put in the ground are you going to grow them from a big sweet potato or a small sweet potato which is the best choice thank you and God bless
The black steer rolling in the greens made me laugh so hard! Precious.
It appears that you & your wife have a peaceful and enjoyable life together.....
I was just thinking the same things beautiful couple!!
That’s the way it should be❤️

I could wake up to that beautiful scenery every single morning I can't wait to get out of the city
Cynthia, I'm seeing your comment 4 years after you left it, and just wanted to say I hope you were able to get out of the city and are enjoying a peaceful life. ♥️🙏🏻🇺🇲
Your white sweet potatoes are massive! Cows are enjoying their share 😊
Good morning y’all, beautiful day already. I love how you don’t waste any of the resources.

I enjoyed the ride, you guys are so blessed to have such a beautiful place.
The cows are so cute. They love their sweet potato greens. I can't believe how friendly they are.
There just babies.
I have followed your sweet potato tips for 2 yrs now and again had a bumper crop. Even grew slips from last year's leftover potatoes. Thanks so much.
Morning. It's nice to spend some time watching you dig the potatoes & spend time with the cows. They are a beautiful breed 🐂
What a beautiful place you all have. What a blessing.
Love watching you feed the cows 🤗💝
those moments with the cows are peaceful and enjoyable. We enjoy our neighbors longhorns which

Great times go by so fast. thank you for sharing
My daddy always loved the white potato. He always planted those.
Your dirt is so pretty! Digging sweet potatoes is like an exciting treasure hunt!! :)

Morning Y'all , very enjoyable, I love country life , thanks for sharing !
We grow sweet potatoes in Willow City, Texas. We have never had issues with the purple ones and grow so hearty!
The scenery is amazing...along with the music
Thanks, Braced my banana tree yesterday. Learning as we watch you.
I really enjoyed watching you feed and love on your cows 🐄...thanks!!!

What a wonderful video. Amazing harvest. Your cows are adorable.
I planted white potatoes for the first time this year. I hope I get a good harvest like yours.
Wow. Love the mornings.
Love y'all. Peace and blessings from Idaho
Morning! I never thought to feed the cows the vine. Thanks Danny!
The white sweet potatoes look very good

Wow y'all!! The potatoes are great but those cows won my heart. They are just beautiful!! Loved your vlog today!
We are getting ready to dig up ours! 👍
I enjoyed the views. Y'all have a beautiful place.

looks like a busy day there guys
They work together so great power couple🥰
I grew up in the city, didn't even know sweet potatoes came in any color but red! 😲
I like both white and red sweet potatoes.
A beautiful morning in the neighborhood :)
Grandfather would plant celery in the late winter and follow with white sweets as the spring came on. A good deal of it was ground for cattle fodder.
I really needed this peaceful video today. Good information about the sweet potatoes. Thank you.
I never had a white sweet potato but now I'm going to buy some and hold them till spring...good haul
Stay strapped 😉
Beautiful country ❤️
I am armed while gardening also. 😊
I’ve never had a white sweet potato. Something to definitely think about. Love watching the cows interact with y’all.
What a beautiful harvest!
You’ll be eating well this Winter!

We will like to add the white ones to our garden next year.
Awesome potato harvest!!!
you guys have to try the purple Okinawan sweet potato it has white skin with purple flesh it is amazing!

Hlo Fran, humans can actually eat the leaves as well as long as no pesticides and insecticides are used. The white ones look beautiful. 👍
Beautiful!!!

They do love some loving
Use a weed eater to cut the cover then rake it up for the cows, then dig the potato’s should go faster
Newbie here amazing place ❤
I know 1 thing, I need a Danny to help. I miss mine so much.
Love watching those cows ❤❤ 🐄

I have never seen white sweet potatoe slips for sale. I may have to order them next year if I can find them.
You can eat sweet potato greens too

OK, I harvested my sweet potatoes today and guess what, I ONLY planted slips from white potatoes and I got pink ones today!
We had the same thing happen in our other garden.
@@DeepSouthHomestead I know, I saw the video. Just wanted you to know you're not the only ones!
Any idea what made yours turn pink.
@@DeepSouthHomestead Not a clue. We planted them in straw bales so that was different from what you guys did. They just ALL were pink.
I'm wondering if it was the weather or chemtrails or cross pollination some way.

Do the whites have a different taste? Ok you answered my question!
Nice job.
Can you eat sweet potatoes that critters have nibbled on, if you cut out and around the nibbling spot?
What variety of white potatoes did you plant?
Great video 👍

I have heard that sweet potato foliage, the tender tips and leaves, are good greens for people. Do y’all use them that way?
Yes they're good.

On a sweet potato slip. Is that what you mean by one plant?
I didn't know there were white sweet potatoes
This is my question when you're growing the seeds that you're going to put in the ground are you going to grow them from a big sweet potato or a small sweet potato which is the best choice thank you and God bless
Always pick your best and biggest potatoes for planting.
These don't grow from seed. You save the best potatoes for planting next year for slip's to plant.
good morning
What was the name of the white sweet potato? Do you have a video of how to store sweet potato over winter for slips next year?
We don't know what variety these are. but some white varieties are Triumph, and my dad's favorite Nancy Hall. White Delight is another good one.
My son will not eat sweet potatoes, I wonder if I could fool him with the whites?
Beautiful harvest and property! Which variety of whites do you grow? Want to try them next year.
We don't know what variety these are. but some white varieties are Triumph, and my dad's favorite Nancy Hall. White Delight is another good one.
@@DeepSouthHomestead Thank you for the info!
Do sweet potatoes turn green if they grow above ground like Irish potatoes do?
Yes they do.
How do the tastes compare between the white vs orange? I’ve read the whites aren’t as sweet.
We prefer the orange but the white are good as a as fries and as a baked. Just not as sweet
Do you know the name of the white variety?
Where do you purchase your white potato slips?
We grow our own. We have a playlist on growing them.
What is that song you are playing today that is so beautiful?
I just choose songs, I will try to put the titles in the description. I don't remember the names
@@DeepSouthHomestead Thank You Danny and Wanda!
