I liked the old theme because of its progressiveness the deeper you went and because it fit with well with the symbolism of mementos but I agree that this theme is better to actively listen to.
That rythmical "KCHH" in the background (best noticeable in the segment from 0:55 onwards) kinda reminds me of these heavy steel doors in mementos opening
I don't know what it is about them, but these layer themes always make me feel like I'm on a descent to Hell. The original theme, as much as I liked it, didn't really feel that way. Other than that, I do love that they put new songs in Mementos. It got annoying hearing the same song over and over whenever I entered Mementos. The same goes for combat themes. If it wasn't a boss, sub-boss, etc., the song was ALWAYS Last Surprise, and I love that song, but hearing it throughout the entire game every 2 seconds (If you grind like I did), it just gets old. Persona 5 Royal will always be my favorite game. I guess you can say that the story, characters and music... *Stole my heart!* *He says before he picked up Bloodborne*
Best description actually. Each theme really defines the fact that, "Hey, it get's worse the more you go." It could not fit better as "You're on the descent to Hell"
I love this track so much. Such a sweet sound, everytime it kicks in I'm just "I'm gonna cruise around in here forever and listening to this driving this sweet ass Mona car"
This is a little (over a year) late but here it is As somebody who didn’t spend much time in mementos other than when you have to go there for the story, I didn’t suffer to the “dear god I’ve heard the same 3 instruments for 20 hours” curse as badly as other people did but I can still see a definite improvement in the new mementos themes
I like this track a lot, but they took mementos's new themes in the wrong direction in my opinion. It's weird that the song got less and less intense the deeper you went and tried to sound more creepy rather than actually give mementos the omphf this track gives it. Wish it woulda been more like persona 3's tartarus blocks, maybe increase the tempo each time too
thats not a bad argument, but I feel like the rest of the game is unrepesentative of that viewpoint. For example, most would say Futabas palace is a pretty depressing one, but her palace theme is a pretty slammin one too. The same could be said about Last Suprise, supposed to be a battle theme but it sounds more stylish than intense.
Christopher Catheline True, although blues has shown that music can be slammin’ and still depressing. Since this is an RPG, Last Surprise is a track you’ll hear a Lot, which means it shouldn’t be as intense (or you’ll end up with sweatshop, the most intense theme for the most redundant palace)
@@christophercatheline8792 really, most of P5's soundtrack wasn't meant to sound intense. The Phantom Thieves aren't intense, they're more stylish, so something like this song and Last Surprise fits well because it fits the style of the thieves.
If a Mementos track had to describe Joker, this one would be it since it's mysterious, jazzy and has a little bite to it.
This is literally what his palace theme would be.
@@Zer0__P0int__I mean there's also this, but either will work

My favorite out of all the mementos themes :). My jaw dropped when I found out Mementos had more than 1 theme
This theme is great but my favorite would have to be the lower layer theme. Basically a sped up version on this one plus really good added parts
WE INSTAKILLING SHADOWS OFF RYUJI'S LEVEL 7 WITH THIS ONE 🔥🔥🔥
sounds much better than the old theme.

The old theme was good but this is one of the best songs in the soundtrack by far, up there with no more what ifs and price

0:39 THAT PART, you know the one, you're welcome xD
Bro this is an actual banger
I live in NYC, when this comes up while I'm riding the train I can't help but start smiling
I can’t be the only one hearing hints of Beneath the Mask
Could you give me a time stamp where you can hear it?
Akira Kurusu 0:18
Anon E. Mousse yeah I can hear it for a split second
I actually subconsciously sing beneath the mask
Its the persona 5 melody, you hear it every where if you pay attention
I always keep rythm with my feet when I'm in mementos, it's a great OST
I'm exactly the same. Even as I type this my left feet is tapping the rhythm automatically. This stuff just goes straight to your response system.

Thank you for extending this track, I have added it to my programming playlist.
i like how we can see both eyes of everyone except Akechi's, some nice foreshadowing
Thanks for ruining the game for me

BRO WHY TF DOES DANCING IN MY ROOM GO WITH THIS SO WELL
My jaw dropped when I heard this. So mysterious sounding, so funky, it's leagues above the previous droning sounds of the old Mementos theme

Shoji is a master. A men, who deserved an Oscar for Soundtracks that he didnt even do... Yet.
Is it me or am I the only one singing “Ooh yeah, badadadada dadadada, ooh yeah, badadadada dadadada?”
Damn that drum beat is stupid fun to play for some reason
Sounds like Genesis, or Alan Parsons Project. Favorite tune in the new mix.
the breathing sounds in this song make me want to explode. it’s so good
This sounds so much better then the original.
I agree. Hopefully Mementos has been updated in P5R beyond the soundtrack

ohhhhhhh~~~~ .- looking forward to thisss

Deeper and deeper this path goes...
It’s great that even the music in P5R is better than its original!

sounds like the home depot theme

Y'know, the piano part sounds like P3 Fearful Experience
this fits with the aesthetics of chemdah

I think it fits with the sybolism of mementos: the deeper you go the more controlled, dreadfull and shackled it becomes.

This should be joker theme song
I wish tartarus had songs like this,
Oh well i guess ill settle for maya's theme.
First time I reached the upper layer and heard this I put my controller down, grinned ear to ear and banged to this for at least like 10 minutes.
Hope you also brought up the menu, 'cause otherwise you'd be saying hi to a returning problem.
