  • I wanted to do this video for a long time because lots of people have been asking for it but never got around in recording it. But this morning I saw the video where my friend James Flores is demonstrating his Hauptwerk setup ( • My Hauptwerk setup ) and thought I would do it too and also talk about tools I use for streaming on TH-cam. Hope you will enjoy it!

    Very interesting selection and placement of equipment. It's hard to believe that so much RAM is needed for Hauptwerk to run properly without crashing. I use 2 manual Johannus Studio II digital organs for the Grand Orgue, my computer has 32 GB of RAM, an 8-core 3.8 GHz processor and the Behringer UMC204HD audio interface, and with all this equipment there are sometimes slight freezes. I guess I'll have to add some extra RAM.
    A very interesting episode!
    I wish you all the best :)
    Greetings from Poland, Matthew!

    That is a great and very informative video. Thanks for sharing your journey through building your Hauptwerk setup. It is very interesting to find out how you approached some of the challenges. Well worth the effort!

      Glad you enjoyed it! The challenges from the side of technology are pleasant to solve because in the end I get to have new skills.

    As others have already commented, Vidas, a really useful and helpful upload explaining how you produce such wonderful recordings - though as amazing as all this technology is, it would mean nothing if it was not for your truly fabulous playing and teaching! As you know, I am a big fan of James. He recently played some Clementi on the organ and I commented with a reference to the contest between Mozart and Clementi in 1781. So I am going to make the same judgement as Emperor Joseph II, who diplomatically declared a draw between those two great composers. I declare a draw between the massive amount of wiring and equipment both you and James have. Just looking at all those 'tripping hazards' gives me palpitations. At least my humble Viscount Chorum just plugs in and plays . . . but of course, does not give me access to some of the greatest organs in the world! Thank you, Vidas.

      If I could choose I also want to be some kind of ruler, maybe not an emperor, but at least a count, a duke or maybe Viscount! HAHA! Good play on words and thank you for watching Graham!

      Graham, you are very good with words. Do you write a blog?

    • @grahamtwist

      Hi Vidas. No blog from me . . . just plenty of 'blag' (altogether different!). But I must compliment you beyond your excellence as a player and teacher. Your command of English is exceptionally good for a non-native user. And I say that confidently because you able able to tell jokes and engage in word-play and you appear to appreciate English humour! Is there anything you are not good at? You see, we English like to feel superior (after all, we did once have an Empire!) . . . but look at us now. Unloved in Europe and the rest of the world. You give me a massive inferiority complex, Vidas. I have to cherish the thought that you once had a memory lapse when playing Bach BWV 846, otherwise I'd have to recognise your status beyond emperor - or viscount - and declare you, as was the case with some Roman emperors . . . a deity!

    • @SecretsofOrganPlaying
      @SecretsofOrganPlaying  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha! This is funny, Graham... The video of BWV 846 was a publicity stunt. I didn't forget the music because... I never learned it. I knew people would watch it more if I titled it this way. By the way, in this piece, I used the techniques I teach in my Prelude Improvisation Formula: secrets-of-organ-playing.myshopify.com/products/prelude-improvisation-formula And yes, you should definitely write a blog. You have so much to contribute to the people around the world.

    Hi thanks for your helpful explaination, can I ask what the keyboard stand you used before and if you remember - the make and model was, I am thinking of using a similar setup with the stand and 3 keyboards as it seems a relatively more affordable way to have 3 manuals but can you stack them at above each other at a good height. Cheers tony

      Thank you! This was the keyboard stand I used before when I had 3 manuals: Jaspers 3D-120B:
      www.thomann.de/intl/jaspers_3d120b.htm?offid=1&affid=472 There is a version with 4 manuals too. All the way up to the 6 manuals haha!

      @@SecretsofOrganPlaying Can I also ask WHY you changed? I like the idea of using a keyboard stand to get started with a VPO, but I wonder if it's stable enough. Thank you for the very clear introduction.

    • @SecretsofOrganPlaying
      @SecretsofOrganPlaying  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Graumann58 It was stable enough but I didn’t like that I had to reach rather high for the 3rd manual. For two manuals it’s fine.for somebody with long hands it’s not a problem though.

    Hello. I am interested in how you got your pedal board to work. I have a similar setup as yours except I am using 3 Nektar keyboards. I've gotten a JG3 Tech 24 note pedal board which plugs directly into the computer. Hauptwerk doesn't detect it. How did you set the channels up? Or did you route it through an interface? Any advice you may have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    • @SecretsofOrganPlaying
      @SecretsofOrganPlaying  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In that video I used Viscount MIDI pedalboard and it worked just fine with Hauptwerk. Since then I changed my setup to a custom built 3 manual and pedal setup so again I had no problems Hauptwerk detecting my pedals because it is plugged into manuals first. It sounds like you need run some kind of MIDI detection software on your computer to see if it recognizes your pedals or not. Another idea: do your pedals have usb connection directly to the computer or to the MIDI to USB adapter first? If so, maybe try a different adapter. This happened once with my Viscount pedals. Not sure what else could be the problem. If anything else fails. Try contacting JG3 manufacturer. Maybe they would seen such issue on their pedals and know the solution. Hope this helps!

    Thanks for the video! I couldn't find it in the video, but how do you have your keyboards supported currently? Do you have a stand underneath them, or something custom made? I like how close the keyboards are together, but most commercial keyboard stands hold them too far apart...
