It’s quite interesting that she pushed back at the implication that she seemed to be flirting with mezzo soprano repertory. She really viewed herself as a soprano through and through.
Not only that, but she seemed a bit insulted by the term. I think like Tebaldi, they were both first and foremost primadonnas. Did you like the film Maria by the way?
@@Orfeus80 I completely agree. I liked the film quite a bit. It's not going to win Best Picture or anything like that, but I think they made it with empathy and respect. Some of the Callas people are complaining that the use of Jolie's voice makes Callas's decline seem worse than it was; really eye roll-inducing.
@ER1CwC I felt the film was too glossy and they didn't give Callas enough layers as we see in the few real clips they show at the end. She seems more vibrant, interesting and even kinder than the cruel persona Jolie constantly projects. I loved the Greek actress they chose to play the mother. She has the Greek fire in her eyes like Callas had. I thought about her singing... I guess it challenges their theory that she was singing well again.
@@Orfeus80 In some ways, Jolie was singing better than the late Callas because there is no hole in the middle voice! Putting that aside, I didn't find Jolie's Callas cruel. It's more that she was just sad. All in all, I thought that they did a good job walking a fine line between catering to opera people and reaching out to the broader public. One of my reactions actually was that Jolie didn't have that the strength of Callas's eyes. I guess that is what you mean by Greek fire? I thought Jolie did a good job. I was predisposed to favour her performance though. Not that I am a fan, but I saw some reflexive anti-Hollywood/-American/-Jolie comments here and there that really turned me off.
@ER1CwC I think Jolie did the best she could with the scenario she was given. Funny you say that about her singing, I also heard her trying to fake a wobble at some point but as you said, her voice was almost too healthy, at times. In any case, it'll bring new fans to the opera.
Superbe maria elle restera toujours la prima donna de grande classe la divine bravos et merci a vous ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Most beautiful video. Thank you so much for posting. 🌺☀️🎄🥀

Callas correcting journalists is a vibe
5:15 Düsseldorf
Sottotitoli in italiano???
Gediegenes Deutsch .....heute klingt das völlig anders. ❤
... und schon damals gab es Journalisten, die Sinn und Unsinn zu unterscheiden wussten. Ein seltenes Stück fairen Journalismus'.
@@zehnthaussteinbach5377schon damals....vielleicht damals mehr als heute? Danke
