I agree but there should be a requirement to use the sample in creative ways so people don't just take music and lazily repurpose it. And if free sampling was a thing then it should be required for samplers to credit their samples. I respect hip hop artists who don't want to tell people what samples they use but I also think by doing so, those producers are being disrespectful to the artists they're sampling. Many artists who get sampled just want credit where it's due.
@@carstarsarstenstesenn first off, trying to legally define “transformative” or “creative” sampling is one of the reasons free sampling isn’t a thing yet, because big labels will always try and abuse that to discourage sampling more and more. All forms of sampling are valid, period. Calling some uses of sampling “creative” and others “lazy” misses the entire point of sampling in the first place. Secondly, I assure you most if not all sample based artists would be more than happy to give proper attribution to everything if free sampling was a thing. The entire reason people hide samples is because of copyright law, not to be greedy Patricia Taxxon has a great series on TH-cam called “the golden calf” which does a really good job of explaining how complete and utter copyright abolition is the only way for artists to have true creative freedom, I recommend you check it out (dw they’re only like 15 or 20 minutes total)
@@tescomealdeals I used to have the same perspective as you, but it's not that simple. You can definitely use a sample in a lazy way. A lot of less talented artists out there who take a sample and do nothing original with it. There would be people who would exploit it just to be lazy and make money from other people's work. And I assure you that there would be a significant amount of artists that would still not credit their samples even if required to. You seem to think all artists are nice people or something 😂 it's a lot of assholes out there, which is why artists feel the need to copyright their music. I'm usually on the side that sampling should be free game but we can't just let everyone sample whoever they want. It would be chaos
@@carstarsarstenstesenn whether or not you consider a use of sampling lazy is completely irrelevant, it’s still a valid form of musical expression. Think about it like this, there are arguably some very “lazy” ways to play guitar, for example you can just play nothing but a I-IV-V progression on a bunch of different songs. Is that lazy? Yeah, kinda. Can you criticise someone’s music for such a thing? Of course. Do you have the right to argue they shouldn’t be allowed to make said music? Absolutely not. Putting a stupid ass requirement of “creativity” on sampling is doing just that, restricting other people’s art because it doesn’t fit your subjective criteria of what defines originality. As Sean Booth of Autechre said, “this whole idea of judging music based off of how much effort it took is full of fail.” A good song being achieved “lazily” is made no worse by that fact. Second, you saying “there’s a lot of assholes” is just an awfully cynical take. Most people on this earth are nice and most artists who care at all about music will be more than happy to share samples if they were allowed to without legal repercussions. Just saying “but some people aren’t nice” is a lazy and reductive way of reasoning. But to be clear, I agree that attribution should be mandatory if free sampling became a thing, I’m just saying that the reason most people who hide samples right now choose to do so isn’t because they’re assholes who wanna keep samples to themselves it’s because they’d get demolished by copyright law if they did
@@tescomealdeals You don't think there's a larger catalogue of music on TH-cam? I find there's a lot of undergound electronic music from the early 90s to present that you just can't find on any other streaming platforms

Huge shame they ruined the order of the album on Spotify and iTunes (due to copyright shit). The entire album is so brilliant in the original order, if anyone hasn’t heard the whole thing you def should!
How did beyonce drag it down? Do you think she burst in the studio and demanded her inclusion? No. If anyone "drags down" the track, it's Jaar himself.
Free sampling! Copyright laws need to change! They’re punishing creativity and hurting artists who are creating original pieces of music.
