- I've made a couple of really simple sunshades for our camper van and caravan (and before that folding camper) so here's how I did it and what I've learnt. PS Making a sunshade is an incredibly easy project...
Materials/tools/etc.:

Plain grey water resistant soft fabric: amzn.to/3GPJbAs also comes in blue, orange, yellow, lime green, turquoise! Amazing! Use it for outdoor cushions!

Quilting tape: This will wash out BUT it's not as easy to get to stay put on waterproof fabrics but IS MUCH less likely to gum up your needle so you might find it easier to work with: amzn.to/3NvANu2

You mention about just stitching it as if every household has a sewing machine. I would imagine 5% has one. I don't know personly anyone who has one.
What I did was my own sunshade. Was buy some extra heavy duty double sided tape. Has worked well under some very heavy winds

I've just bought a van with a C-channel rail and have some poles from an old stick on awning and was wondering how to piece the two together whilst keeping it secure AND waterproof.
