Don't, he's had more success with an art-related career and profession than 99% of art majors and artists like, ever. Yes, I am somewhat jealous, but also, admiring.
it all makes sense now... you can tell he was in a really bad mood while recording this.. anyone who has tried to draw and focus when you're in a bad mood should understand it makes everything way harder.
See his problem is that it should not be 'one of the last things you learn'. You should be drawing from imagination, and for fun, alongside all of the studies you are doing.
I can’t believe that I’m already better than proko at something related to drawing considering he pretty much taught me everything I know about drawing and rendering

To be honest, my opinion of him waned a little when he seemed to try to impart some kind of morality with his lessons. I do think what he did here was quite self sacrificing and kind.
Lmao, Vilpu is hands down the most overrated artist in the academic sphere, almost as bad as Bridgeman. His drawings are feathery, stiff, and very lacking in the dynamic qualities that have become standard in the modern era, and his instruction is kind of incoherent. The Japanese would just laugh. .
lol and here I am scolding myself for drawing from imagination too much. Still important to have a balance of drawing from imagination and reference tho
Proko is the biggest example of safe-zone artist. He streamlined his usual drawing subjects and mastered the fundamental lessons. But when you ask him to risk and go out of that safe-zone, he became confused and stressful. One of the reason why every artists should try to draw numerous subjects that they are not familar with. Or else, ended up like Proko.
@@SiggEye I took this advice to heart and I have to say: it just works. Simply gazing at the cover of that book skyrocketed my artistic potential and now I can imagine and draw kangaroos from higher planes of existance and I don't know how to stop.
That’s why you should unironically draw anime. The variety of subject matter and the simplified forms are easier to remember. You can get very good just trying to replicate what those artists did. Not to mention it’s like doing master copies over and over.
He just can't draw from imagination, that is no problem.. There are type of art and drawing .. and not all artist have same abilities. . Ehm Everyone and I repeat EVERYONE can learn to draw from imagination. People just learn the wrong way and I know that you might say "there is no right and wrong way of learning art" and you are partially correct but to learn drawing from imagination we need to learn specific fundamentals. Peter Han says all the time that drawing a car is the same as drawing a human or animal. Everything is made by planes and ellipses (also organic planes and ellipses) and if you break everything down and draw from REFERENCE you will store info in the VISUAL LIBRARY. More 3d thinking will enable your brain to process info and store it easily. Repetition and consistency is the biggest factor. If you skip days you will lose muscle memory
I don’t understand why he struggles so much drawing from imagination given his deep knowledge of construction/anatomy/perspective, and thousands of hours of practice. Surely he’d of developed a decent visual library just through the sheer volume of work he’s done, tens of thousands of drawings, ect. And it’s not like Proko is a xerox, he goes through the effort of doing construction on pretty much every drawing we’ve seen him do. It’s obvious that he’s capable of visualizing forms at a very sophisticated level. Heck, I’m just an intermediate, but even I could draw better stuff from imagination if I really tried. This is so confusing.
