Love your comment about getting grouchier over pop music being played in cafés while you're trying to write. Someone once said that movie music is perfect when you don't hear it: the point being that it's meant to enhance the film, not dominate it. Jazz works for me as good background music: 'waiting room music' I call it. And your observation that some days are unproductive because nothing sinks in and you don't feel inspired to write, is such a familiar everyday phenomenon for thinkers. In my prayer life there are joyful times when I'm in a lucid state and everything makes sense and then, of course, there's the dog days when you just have to keep going even if you don't feel like it. But having perserverd in such times, is what has prepared you for the moments when the clouds part and the sun breaks through. Thank you for your TH-cam channel and for letting me share my own experience with you.
When I write reviews, especially for sound recordings, I use a form that I developed myself to keep track of ideas and impressions that come to me while encountering the document. This is mainly to be sure to catch all of the points that I should mention in a review. This facilitates and speeds up writing a review. I do something similar for books, although monographs really do require other approaches in some cases.
When I indicate passages that are important to me in a book, I usually only underline or use a highlighter (or simply a pencil) for individual key words, not full sentences or paragraphs, although I do that, too, in some cases. I want to have something visual to attract my own attention when going back to the book, article, whatever.
Regarding outlines prior to writing: I found that outlines were incredibly useful for citations. If I didn't outline and insert the relevant citation information in the outline, I had an unbelievably difficult time getting the citations into the overall paper.
Excellent video thank you for sharing! Very helpful. Be encouraged! Keep up the good work. Your videos are always helpful so you never have to include disclaimers!🎉
I'm gonna be honest, I did not expect you to be a video game lover haha. I have adhd and the only thing that helps me focus is either silence or steady, low energy music. Spaceship bedrooms and waterfalls are my favorite because they have deep steady sounds that block out high pitched noises. But when I can't focus, its just a lost cause.
One book per area is definitely a necessary but hard to follow principle. Currently, I’m fudging it quite a bit with one in each of the following areas: 1) software development (my bread and butter), 2) Old Testament studies (mostly popular level), 3) New Testament studies, 4) history of Christianity, 5) Christian theology, 6) history of philosophy, 7) analytic philosophy or hermeneutics, and 8) miscellaneous (popular science, economics, ethics, Classics, etc). I aim for four chapters a night with mixed results. Some nights I manage six, other nights I only manage one.
I have a half priced books near me that is really good. I haven’t found any difficult theological study books as I have no idea what to look for but someone who sells their books to them likes to sell tons of new releases from CPH in new condition so I’ve been benefiting from that discount lol 😅
Half Price Books is awesome. Their theology/philosophy section (at least at my location) is pretty fantastic, and I have to hold myself back every time I shop there

I know you are a systhematician, that's why I'm asking you. I'm reading some books about theological method already btw but Its kind a complex topic.
Off topic but could a Lutheran shed light on what Luther meant when he said " Be a sinner and sin boldly ". Was he speaking in hyperbole in the sense that a person remains justified even though he sins, therefore he should not be afraid of losing salvation?
I don't think that's the exact quotation but essentially yes that salvation in Christ cannot be overwhelmed by sin, so long as faith remains, but not that one should go around seeking to sin. Check the Ten Commandments in the Large Chatechism for Luther's thoughts on sin. Suffice to say he doesn't believe it's a good idea.

Brother I don't mean this sarcastically but I knew you were going to go there; everything revolves around the sacrament of " the pope" self proclaimed Roman vicar of Christ who is "god on earth" instead of on the sacrament of Holy scripture: Sola Scriptura that clearly states we have only ONE mediator between the church and God: the MAN Christ Jesus.(remember that Jesus tore the veil to the holy of holies, that Old- Testament which was maintained by sinful human mediators in a physical Tabernacle/ Temple in Jerusalem). Also you base your teachings on the Catechism of Corpus Magisterium contrary to Sola Scriptura/John 1:1-5. As well as the Sacrament of holy relics which justifies worship of idols. A basic tenet of philosophy is " the presence of contradictions is evidence of the existence of falsehoods". Only three sacraments are needful Holy communion/ table of Christ that unifies Christ with His body: the church and The Holy Scripture. Thus to believe something fervently doesn't necessarily make it true. John 8:32. The truth stings like salt on an open wound but though hard to believe I still love you. Barakha 🙌🏾 Shalom 🌾🙏🏾
