Great video. Ghent is a nice city. You should visit Bruges / Brugia too. It's the most beautiful city in Belgium :)

that building that reminded you of duke chapel is an 800 year cathedral. also the one next to it, is a Belfry, a government building also from the 13th century.

At 1:23, I’m pretty sure that building is currently an art museum (formerly a casino).

yeah isn't that smak? or msk? i never know which is which

    • @MyFakeIronTrees
      @MyFakeIronTrees 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@ninakonijn436 It’s SMAK. The MSK building looks like a traditional fine arts building. I don’t know if you’ve been, but The MSK is a great museum in my opinion.

@@MyFakeIronTreesSMAK is actually behind it, It's a huge hall that was build for the world fair and idd was a casino for a while but sadly been empty and in decay ever since

Have you been in Antwerp already? If not, I would surely recommend it to come at least once. (Fun fact about Ghent: students once occupied the castle in the centrum because the city had raised the price of beer)

Indeed, this event was called 'the battle for the Gravensteen'. I made a video where I tell the whole story, if anyone is interested: th-cam.com/video/QooZOxx8AyY/w-d-xo.html

1:23 I don't think there is any gambling activity going on in this "casino". Gent is not on the list of the 10 official (physical) Belgian casino's.
Anyway, even with a functioning casino, in Belgium what happens in a casino stays in a casino. Nothing abnormal about finding a playground next to it.

Here's the first part of recommendations. The other one was posted at the Villers Abbey topic (couldn't post two under the same video). Maybe I'll update it in the future. You'll have to check the titles on Google - TH-cam - Wikiloc etc., as posting so many links would be very messy and not allowed by the youtube-police. Hope you'll manage to do some of the hikes, some are in tourist areas, others off the beaten paths. Have much fun during your stay! It's sad that you can't explore it in normal times when there's loads of things to do (pubs, clubs, festivals, fairs, braderies,...)
Here are some recommendations region Pajottenland + Vlaams Brabant + Pays de Collines
    - Vijfgehuchtenwandeling, Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-Lombeek (best end of April / May: blossom, with the famous Zeppos-windmill, watch the series free at VRTnu app) (Nodes + GPX)
    - Kastelenwandeling, Gaasbeek (Nodes + GPX) (Gaasbeek castle,...)
    - Kesterheide-Lombergveldwandeling, Leerbeek (Nodes + GPX)
    - Viergaten Wandelpad, Vollezele (Nodes + GPX: wikiloc download)
    - Pauwel wandelpad, Galmaarden (Nodes + GPX)
    - Dworp Wandelpad, Dworp (Nodes + GPX)
    - Kesterbeek Wandelpad, Beersel (Nodes + GPX)

Le Hérou - Houffalize (GPX) (only if well trained and with right equipment, some dangerous rocks)
    Wijngaardberg (GPX)
Hagelandse Heuvels - Horst (GPX) (well known castle from the comic De Rode Ridder)
Averbode bos en heide (GPX) (one of Belgium's most popular abbeys)
