  • I discuss the design flaw that exists in Weber IDF carbs that causes the idle circuit to get blocked easily, and I set about unblocking the idle circuit so that my 1974 Beetle will drive nicely once again.

I had the same repeated blocked idle jets.....cured the problem by fitting fine gauze covering the centre part of the carb where dirt gets in.
1 year later...never had blocked jets again!!

You saved me! Had same issue on my 914. I cleaned the jets but I did not clean the circuit by removing the carb top. That solved it! Thank you!

That's great it worked for you. I made a more recent video about a mod that stops them from blocking in the first place.

Try spraying carb cleaner into the areas with blockage. This has worked for me on my 1961 corvette Carter and my 1976 mercury 850 outboard. All had blocked idle circuits. After spraying with carb cleaner the blockage was dissolved. Immediately for the mercury and overnight for the Carter. Idle is now amazingly smooth.

I think with mine the blocked idle circuit is only part of the problem. Thanks for the advice though!

Thanks very much! I'm in Ireland by the way, not UK. 😉

I just used to make them spit back in the morning to clear the idle circuits. It seemed to work well enough.

Perhaps carrying the right size drill and a pin vise to take care of this my be suggested?!? Good luck!!!

I have this problem on my 77 Midget with a Weber 32/36 DGEV carb. I'll rip that carb apart tomorrow and give this a try.

I use a brake bleeder pump to suck fuel and debris up and out of the air jet channel. Seems to work every time I get a blockage.

That's an interesting one! I've since modified the carbs so hopefully I won't have this issue in the future.

Trust me, the taps have been well and truly opened a good few times, but to no avail.
