  • The World's Most Dangerous Journey: Lawless and uncharted, the Darien Gap is the world's most dangerous migrant trail. Refugees must face treacherous waters, unrelenting jungle, bandits and guerrillas on their journey from Colombia to the USA. A report by SBS Dateline. WATCH PART 2 HERE: • The World's Most Dange...
"We've had no food for four days and only river water to drink. We've had so much trouble, we haven't slept for eleven days", cries a desperate Bangladeshi refugee. The jungle is merciless and cruel. These refugees have fled political persecution in Nepal and Bangladesh. "In Bangladesh they cut us. Here, and here, they chopped us here, they chopped us and we had to leave. That's why we had to come to the jungle". Having landed in Brazil a month before, the refugees have travelled overland through Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador, to Colombia. Most refugees stop off at the village of Bijao, the gateway to the most dangerous part of the Darien Gap. A migrant trafficking economy had opened up. Locals sell supplies to the travellers and guide them from there to the border with Panama. It's a risky business, but brings much needed capital into the community, which lacks schools and healthcare. Here, people die from treatable diseases such as malaria. Panama has now closed its border to all migrants, but undoubtedly a new gap will be found and the flow will continue.

My friend just made this journey from Venezuela to the US. I asked him a ton of questions about the journey, but he is so nonchalant, I knew it’s dangerous, but not to this extent. Thank you for documenting this!

How is your friend? Would your friend be willing to relive his experience on camera? We're currently on year 2 of a massive in-depth documentary in an attempt to cross party lines, to do away with partisan tribalism, and grant a safer passage to their American dream. Their dream shouldn't be a road paved through hell. How nice would it be to fly over this gap? Wouldn't that be great? Please let me know about your friend. You can email me through my TH-cam channel under the "ABOUT" tab. If not, that's okay too, and I wish your friend all the success and freedoms they deserve. And a warm, heartfelt, Welcome to America.

I went through the darien gap about 3 months ago. Unlike those in this video, we didn't have guides. We just walked and relied on left o er from others to guide our path. We couldn't cook either and didn't have food at all. Nonetheless, we made it out of the jungle in 4 days. Thus forest is no joke. If you see anyone who has made it through, respect that person. It doesn't matter what kind of migrant they are. To risk your life for the sake of a better life is the true test of human endeavour and this jungle will make you question everything you knew. It will stretch you beyond your limits. Others have survive and others died. We passed a corpse upstream and while downstream, we got so thirsty and yet you know there is corpse upstream which is close to the river you are to drink from. You've seen parts of this corpse being washed into the river and yet you have no choice but to drink this water or else you die. What do you do? These are just few of the dilemmas we encounter in this forest. By the way, I drank the water and carried extra for réserve. Imagine what goes through our mind knowing you've probably consume someone who has been dead for days. I really wish people will have a different opinion of migrant because these are people who have endured the true test of human resilience.

If I see an elephant getting slaughtered for it's ivory and i remark that I hate seeing that than it noway claims that it is worse than for example the hunting of whales.
Thus i suspect that you are one of these radical feminists who hates it that there is any kind of sympathy for a man and will soon rush to the scene and change the topic and make it about women (even though that scene didn't even include a female).
That makes you a hypocrite because i means that you do feel more empathy for women than men which would be the exact same mistake of what you wrongly accuse Shontavia.

I think this is a good documentary, BUT as someone who has been in the Darien several times and currently lives in Colombia..I just find it a bit annoying that he never mentions who exactly makes up the overwhelming majority of the migrants in this area..Cubans who freely fly to Venezuela and track down the colombian coast and on into panama through the Darien. I am sure there are Somalians and Nigerians etc etc..but it just seems as though he's trying to make it more of a world immigration route rather than what it actually is..and that's a major route for Cubans and Venezuelans fleeing. I'm not a journalist and nor do I aspire to be and not taking away from this topic because it is a serious issue, but just up the colombian coast in the Guajira region where babies and kids are severely malnourished and dying of drought and hunger, and endure racism (the guajira is indigenous occupied land here in Colombia and the government does NOTHING for these people) your camera and words could have been better served there....that's just my opinion and I encourage you, if you actually read the comments on your vids, to take another trip to colombia and try to spread the word of what's going on!

I'm an amerkan and I was married to an undocumented Mexican and he got nothing but abuse from all of his employers because he had no rights. The dream of the US is a nightmare for many, and it's not much of a dream for those of us born here anymore, either, since we got sold out to Chinese slave labor years ago and lost all the manufacturing. Now it's just a house of cards in debt and ready to fall. All I can say to any migrant, don't go! Stay home! Your food is better, anyway. All the food in the US is gmo fake and will give you cancer. The dream is a nightmare. I want to take this journey going the other way and hang out in those villages. I'm done with MacDonalds and smart meters!

Yup. People need to wake up to the fact that this isnt 1804 with endless resources for free & we need a emigrant horde to claim the territory before another world power does.
This is no longer a prosperous nation, better than most but people need to stay in their country of birth & fight to make it a safe & economically prosperous nation. That will also address most of the environmental issues globally as well.
Come to the US for an education, than go home & use the knowledge to raise the standard of living for your country.
Corruption at all levels from the small to the great & no birth control, not lack of resources is what keeps most of these countries poor & dangerous.

Colin Doherty - And not only is it not any easier (or much easier) than it was a century ago, but our governments have gone rogue and psychopathic (corrupt) to the Zionist central bankers and criminal politics/policies. This illegal immigration is forced on nations intentionally by the International Bankers, to divide and conquer, and cause societal decline and decay in Western Nations, as well to destroy the ethnic, cultural, and moral fiber/cohesion by diluting nations (ethnically, religiously, culturally, racially) with poor immigrants and refugees. There are institutions funded by George Soros and others working to destroy and destabilize America and other western nations. Unfortunately if these people don't have internet access, and don't speak and understand English, then they wouldn't know it. In the last decade, about 20% of the people who came here, left to return to their home countries (especially after the recession).

As a Bangladeshi, I really feel sorry for them. But trust me, there are plenty of opportunities here in Bangladesh to make money. According to the IMF, Bangladesh's economy is the second fastest growing major economy of 2016. But the sad part is still people believe in the American Dream and willingly risking their lives to go to USA. And most importantly they choose the wrong path to move to USA and ignoring all the legal ways. I have been to USA twice and every year thousands of people from Bangladesh go to USA legally. I feel very sad after watching this and I believe this is not their fault as they were manipulated by some human trafficking agencies. Hopefully they will come back to Bangladesh safely. And thanks Journeyman Pictures for this documentary. We will use this documentary to create awareness in our country.

Agreed. Nowdays Manpower Recruiting agencies finding it hard to run their business in Bangladesh as the local businesses are booming. And whoever pissing over Bangladesh should know, Bangladesh has less inequality and much more stability in social life and security. People here are strong, adaptive, tolerant to poverty and very simple -life lover. That is the most crucial of any socio economic developments.

In fact, Bangladesh is not in such a distressed position, economically or politically, that forces its people to follow such dangerous path. Greediness of some people and handcuffs of the dream country drive or motivate them leading this way.

He worked at a Somali restaurant and lived with some guys (iskaabulo) he knew before he made the journey. I haven't seen him in a while but I'm guessing he got his work documentations and now working full time.
