Trying Fara-J GMRS Antenna with RG-8X Low-Loss Coax

  • On my first video using this Fara-J cloth antenna one of the viewers suggested that the RG-316 I was using was quite lossy and that a larger coax would probably work better. I went online to loss calculator websites and then did a table with 4 coax cables that I considered portable manageable. RG-8X showed the least amount of loss of the 4 choices and so I ordered a 25’ section with BNC connectors on each end and a choke of type 61 ferrite beads that cover 200 MHz - 1000 MHz and went out and tried the Fara-J GMRS cloth Antenna at the same distances as the first test.

    Would the loss by using RG316 be acceptable if you used a 20 watt radio?

      @@AmbassadorEarl well loss is the loss. I did it on my 50 watt mobile and I didn’t see anyway additional compared to that of the handheld.
