    George Digweed: "I have seen a lot of high birds shot (and shot at) and, in my opinion, with the modern guns and cartridges available, a true 60-yard pheasant is consistently killable up to that height if you possess the necessary skill. Any higher and you are relying on luck and we need to question seriously whether luck should play any part when it comes to the humane dispatch of a living quarry."

      @woodruffwalker1868 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It is really difficult to tell the difference between a 50,60 and seventy yard fast flying pheasant, Especially on a misty day like the one in the video. Some birds will inevitably be pricked even by Digweed.

    You've outdone yourself here Dave. The fog-shrouded hillside of that first drive was otherworldly and those birds were almost way beyond maximum; amazing that you pulled some of them down! The second drive really looked like the epitome of British high bird shooting, all nice tall and wide ones and remarkable shooting on your part. It surely did look like one of the best venues in the world, thanks for this one as it made my day. Best regards as always, Ed.

  • @oliverbishop2762
    @oliverbishop2762 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Hate to say it, but as a very keen shooter myself and avid man of the countryside and conservation I feel I’m in a good enough position to comment. These birds are too high to shoot at. Your a good shot, I’ve seen a lot of your videos. Your ratio on the first drive here says it all. Think how many birds came off there half full of pellets with no chance of getting picked. It’s not fair. Reign it in. They are outside the real effective range of a shotgun. It’s cruel

    • @DaveCarrieShooting
      @DaveCarrieShooting  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oliver! I agree with you in some respects, but I too know my limitations, “as I said” if you listen carefully on the first drive! I picked through birds I thought I could kill - these were the ones that did actually screw down to a killable height, this is a drive that normally (as you pick through them) the birds beat you by sheer speed and angle wether they are 40yds or 70yds, this particular day ( because of mist) very few screwed down to the level that I call sporting for me!! But this scenario can happen on most shoots (because of unique weather conditions) do people go home and the organisation compensates the team?

    • @oliverbishop2762
      @oliverbishop2762 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DaveCarrieShooting thanks very much for the reply! Glad to hear you picked through what you knew you could shoot. I suppose these things are limited to the shooters ability and responsibility to shoot at what suits there ability. Non the less an impressive shoot and some fantastic shots from you as always. Keep making these great vids Dave. Maybe abit more content on the other aspects of the job, the conservation side, not over stocking, the beating and the picking up, the environmental benefits and negatives etc could all be given some air time! Thanks again for the reply
