OMG ....i was stunned, moved , captivated...I also remember the Russian lady sat next to me, the emerald necklace clanking whenever she bent her neck to wipe away the tears. At the end of the performance dueing the long standing ovation she grinned at me and gave a thunbs up!!!

Margaret Price & Julia Varady are perhaps the two greatest operatic sopranos of their vocal type during their time IMO. Really exquisite singing from the former here.
I love this performance, my favorite of my 30'ish recordings of Otello. I have this on Golden Melodram. This one sounds a little different from mine though, a bit more stereo separation and a bit more bass. If you don't mind my asking, is this a private tape or a different release of this than the Golden Melodram? I'd love a copy if it's commercially available somewhere.
Domingo è bravo pur non avendo mai avuto la vocalità di OTELLO! Carroli vocalmente non mi piace come non mi piace Gobbi...ma sono due grande interpreti e Jago è una parte a loro congeniale...per la parte di JAGO occorre una vocalità non bella ma espressiva...

The greatest Otello of his time, with the most beautiful soprano voice of her time with the greatest conductor of his time. Live! Unequalled!
Was there a few days later and was extremely fortunate to hear this miraculous collaboration of artists.👍🏽

As a Shakespeare scholar, I have long admired Verdi's Otello and consider it better than Shakespeare's.
More concise? I've read some people complain that Verdi/Boito make Iago less complex.
