I'd pay for a Dr Crawford "Learn Icelandic road rage phrases" app. ;) Great discussions, tips and information -- thank you both.

omg I had a good friend in Sweden who over web cam was trying valiantly to teach me the language. So often her feedback was "no that's how it was said in the 1950's only my grandmother says it that way", "no that is how women who grew up in the 1970's would say it, only my mother would say it that way", "no that is how it is said up north and we don't think they talk very well up there no one hear would say it that way they'd treat you better if you said it like my grandmother". I would be sitting there with online dictionaries, translators and education sites saying "but but but ..."

Eh...as a swede i think that's a very weird stance. The important thing is that you pronounce correctly in some way and make yourself understood. If you sound like someone from the fifties is irrelevant. And the way things are pronounced vary so much, even the words people use. Like Swedes in the north have this old time way of talking that no one in the south are using. Like saying "fara" instead of "åka" for example. It's just different and part of the charm that we have so many dialects. So please ignore your old friend and get back at it. Sounds like you were doing great!

Dig it! Critiquing how and why y'all teach certain ways. Excellent for self and viewer learning.

maybe consider filming it while streaming or just film and then upload instead of stream, because the audio quality is just suffering from it, and i personally don't bother too much if i have the (pretty small) chance of being with you live. of course, thanks for your videos! :) i dig it!

I love these videos, but the sound compression is a serious problem.

Don't think it's a compression issue, but rather that the mic is too far away that the volume has to be so high that the ambiance and echo of the room gets picked up.
It's a shame. Even a couple of $20 lav mics or a $50 shotgun mic would have fixed the problem.

good to hear that she kept her swedish accent! i hate that so many people these days do everything they can to wipe out their accents from their old countries :(

The place she grew up in, Vänersborg, is part of the Trestad (pronounced as tresta', the d is silent and the a as a short ah) along with Trollhättan and Uddevalla. i partly grew up near the area as well, did my 3 years in a gymnasium (school year 10-12) in Trollhättan '09-'12, most of my childhood was spent in Kungälv/Ytterby further down Göta Älv-Dalen that Göta Älv goes through.
And as she said about the dialects (or accent if you prefer that), they can differ quite a lot between cities even less than 30km apart, as I am someone that grew up partly in Kungälv and partly in Vara/Nossebro/Grästorp regions, I picked up a bit of everything in my own dialect though it's mostly the Göteborgs (Gothenburg) dialect today because I have now lived there for the last 8 years
