Man I forgot how EPIC the battle was, that water vs fire scene was INSANE. To me that was the coolest Water v fire spell i've seen in anything, I could understand how insane the heat was, they did it sooo well. And I forgot how emotional that end part was, lost his dad, for THAT.
Oh I can't remember exactly what it is, but Paul's sword is crazy, like the harder something is, the easier it cuts or something like that. But it couldn't cut something like bread at all. So yeah he was the only one who could've done that for sure.
This episode is one of the hardest-hitting I've seen in anime in a very long while. Usually twists like this are reserved for a major turning point between acts or at the end of a series/season. And yeah, seeing Paul's death never gets easier. I wept in the sauna after the episode aired. The danger the Hydra represents is that a mage has to enter melee range in order to actually harm it, which means biting distance. Since mages aren't generally close combat trained, it's tantamount to suicide. 4:55 Paul isn't only telling Rudeus those words, but to himself. Especially himself. When he was 11, Paul's mother fell ill due to her poor constitution and constant stress over how his father kept disciplining him over his rampant womanizing. Paul had frequented the slums near his mansion before, so he went there to find a doctor who made a habit of doing the rounds and offering free services to the people there. Paul failed to find the doctor and when he got home, his mother had passed away. His father Amarant and his brother Pilemon blamed Paul for her death and her misery over how she kept asking where he was. He fled the house less than a year later. The main reason Paul fell in love with Zenith was because she reminded him so much of his mother, being kind, warm, nurturing, and beautiful. Zenith is in a way a living reminder of the only other person he ever really loved or felt loved by before settling down in Buena. So in saving Zenith he is undoing the failure of his own childhood and saving his mother. And he is also trying to keep Rudeus away from the same grief of losing his mother. 6:55 people tend to forget that monsters can think. They seem like rabid animals, but they can plan, coordinate, and lay traps. The reason why they're so dangerous is that they're automatically hostile to any living thing, pursuing people until they're convinced they wouldn't survive the encounter. 8:20 that part is kinda hard to bring to screen, but Rudeus wasn't just jubilant that they were winning, but also he was too close to foresee what the Hydra was going to do. It was simply too big for his Eye to fully cover, overwhelming him. The necks flailed about and the party sans Geese were in their range. I like the fact he was focusing on Roxy when Talhand tanked a hit. Rudeus' problem is that he likely has the lowest reaction speed of the whole party, since he isn't able to use mana to strengthen it like the others. 8:52 nice moment for the lights to come on :) To continue on monsters being smart, even the hydra kept changing tactics. First attacking with three heads at a time, then using all five remaining heads at once, switching targets whenever it met resistance, using its trump card (breath attack) when the situation was desperate enough to warrant it, then finally using its necks as flails and isolating Rudeus so he couldn't burn more. The party and Hydra both were countering each other. Paul was too quick to kill outright and he was the only one capable of cutting heads; Rudeus was too well guarded and he was the primary burner of the wounds; Paul was fast enough to keep attacking even if the Hydra attacked less-defended targets; Rudeus is simply ridiculous in tanking three breath attacks at once with his Water Wall; Paul getting killed was the closest the Hydra came to winning, but Rudeus pulled a desperate move on killing the last head. 9:44 Rudeus only learned up to Advanced Healing in the university. Regrowing limbs belongs to King-tier and above (it's safe to say Orsted can cast up to and including God-tier). Teaching Saint-tier and above is something Millis holds a monopoly over. 10:30 the Drama CD has the Hydra scene and a bit before from Paul's POV, including his thoughts from figuring out the teleportation room up until he passed away. Hearing his very last thoughts makes this scene even harder. He knew he was dying. "I carry so many regrets... I don't want to die! I still have so many things I wanted to do! But, oh well... Better this than Rudy dying. Keep your chin up..." 12:40 cremation is performed on every living animal and person, since the mana in their bodies (mentioned by Nanahoshi) would eventually raise them as undead. This would happen much faster in the now dead labyrinth. Rudeus is used to the stench of seared monster and human flesh, having burned every body and carcass he'd come across since Rikarisu, but here he had to burn his own father and crush down his bones. 13:48 the last line in the part of the book covered by this episode: "And my heart shattered." Rudeus had expected to at least share the grief with Zenith and reconnect with her as family. Her condition denied him of this opportunity. 18:20 In the Drama CD Paul was unnerved by Rudeus looking too relaxed or not nervous enough about entering the guardian room, since they had no idea what they'd encounter and how they'd be in mortal peril.
He saw Rudeus too relaxed and wanted to scold him to get serious. But then he saw him get serious and let it go. We see this on Paul's POV in the Drama CD.
It's kinda a cool coincidence that at the exact moment Rudy pushes his hand into the Hydra's eyeball and launches a earth spike, your background lights came on. ( 8:51 )
Whaa that is cool! We obviously didn’t notice that haha I wonder if there is a way to make the lights work like that on purpose… like some kind of sound based lighting effects…. Now you gave me an idea 🤔 haha thanks for pointing this out sky panda!
Yoooo I found a way to sync the lights with the anime! I can’t wait to try it out! Thanks for the inspiration sky panda! Make sure to check it out on our next video! Hope it’s more immersive? Well idk if it will look cool or be distracting haha but I’m damn excited to try it out! Haha
imagine this it was released on the exact father's day.. Also its safe to watch some videos or the light novel knowning what Paul's thinking as he dies
