That man built a beautiful , stylish, well made home. Some historic society needs to save this. Please.

I can imagine an elderly couple finishing out their lives together sitting on the porch..... puttering around the house doing daily chores..... great little house Kappy! Can’t wait for the next one!!

Bobbi Watts when you describe the elderly couple, you are describing my parents, my mom just turned 85, sadly dad passed away afew years ago, but they would sit together on their deck, or by the back yard fire, or at camp sitting on the porch sipping on tea or coffee watching the waves, they would often take short walks on the beach and sit by the waters edge...they would have been married 67 years this June. I miss my dad so much. It will surely be a sad day when mom leaves, but she lived a wonderful life with 9 children, a million (seemed that way.lol) grand great grand and great great grandchildren, they lived through the depression years, they lived through wwII, they experienced residential schooling, they lived a hard life...but they loved each other and gave us the best life they knew how...hey, out of the immediate family there is only one drug addict (and that is a great great grandson and one too many) , no alcoholics, Educated people..so yeah they done good...lol....
the video..lol... big difference from my parents home (our family home) is that it is still lived in (by mom) we would never leave their home with its belongings or prized possessions...I can imagine at some point, this house must have been a beauty...I will never understand how people can just up and leave everything behind...unless they had no family, still..everyone has someone, right?

Wow!! Thanks for the history, can you imagine how proud they must have been, from slaves to homeowners. I think the family should keep this one alive. Love the antique vanity & mirror & the fireplace. Looks like the clothes, hanging in the hall, were just waiting to be put on for church. That was a great find & I really enjoy how respectful you are of these homes. Cant believe your so young. You must have an old soul. My son was born in 97. Thanks again for the great explore.

Hi Kappy! 👋🏼 I’m so sorry you’ve been sick with that nasty flu. I hope you feel better soon. It took me a couple weeks to really feel better.
What a wonderful story that this beautiful home was built by an ex slave! He probably did the woodwork by hand himself. He built a comfortable cozy home for his family to live and love in, probably after years of being mistreated and abused. And he filled it with some lovely furniture. Antiques now.
The dresser and dressing table with the mirror in the first bedroom and in a bedroom upstairs, the steamer trunks, the headboard and footboard of a bed upstairs, and the cabinet in the kitchen which is called a “Hoosier” are antiques and worth a lot of money!
Excellent find and explore! This house should be saved as the tin/metal roof kept it from decaying to the point of no return. Thanks for sharing this exceptional house with us! Stay safe out there!! ☀️

  • @debraellison6255
    @debraellison6255 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

The white cabinet in the kitchen is called a housier cabinet. I had one years ago but it was missing the flour sifter. It took me a long time to strip the layers of paint off. The porcelain top was pretty. I gave it to a friend who fell in love with it. I had a steamer trunk just like the first one you showed. I used mine for Christmas storage which doubled as my coffee table. That eventually went to someone that helped me out moving. The dressing table looked like it was still in good condition. It won't be for long because they have a thin layer of wood that will eventually peel off. Those are getting harder to find. I bet when she received that piece she probably felt special. I would love to have one. Wish that the pieces that had been left had been given to someone who would have cherished them. I get sad when I see once loved items left behind. Thanks for the video. You find the best locations. Be safe.

I agree...and what is really sad is that you can't "help yourself" because it probably belongs to someone else.
I wonder what the rules are if no one owns? well I guess someone would own...if not a private owner the town or state?

Cool old house looks like a grandma's house didn't see any men's items really so I would assume a elderly woman's home. Really sad to see its been ransacked by people looking for things to steal. And the clothes left behind and so many personal items tells me that they passed away and no cared enough about the woman or the home or maybe see was the only one left no kids or anything my mind runs a muck when I see these things and I start my conclusions . Great video Kappy I hope those last houses are coming up !! Great work !!👍👍👍

Kappy, thanks for the backstory. That’s interesting and good to know. It looks like the last person in the house may have moved downstairs. The outhouse seat might’ve been made into a potty chair.
Mantle piece in that one room was very pretty and the mirror upstairs -lovely.
Thanks for taking us with you. Be careful and stay safe.

Hi Kappy!Another great find.I love the stairs & the hardware of course.I also love the style.I like the entrance.I like how it feels like a home when u enter.the rm next to it looks like it became the master bedroom because she was unable to get up the stairs. that seat does look like an old outhouse seat but its odd that its inside. I do like that antique vanity dresser. The fireplace is so neat & fancy but then u see on the other side a dull fireplace that looks like its attached to the nice one.the back porch looks like it was really nice at 1 time.there is some fancy but suttle details I noticed like at 4:39 u can see in the corner a nice detail. I love the kitchen cabinet.that steamer trunk is so neat & looks in pretty good shape.I love all the antiques & its so sad to see them just sitting there rotting away. at around 8 :24 u can see the attic entrance I wanted to see it.thank u for going & making this video.something in the future to document what once was.

Nice and rare find. I’ve read homes from this period (post civil war) have not tended to last. Esp sharecropper and single level homes of lower income families. A book on our county’s architecture lists one example. It’s right across the road from me but has deteriorated significantly since I remember children living there riding our bus back in the 70s/80s. It should really be preserved. Thanks for caring and documenting this treasure. Hope your feeling better. ❤️

Such a serene setting! Very soothing sounds of nature! With all the suburbia and cities etc, it's nice to know there's still rural areas left. I'm hoping with the internet and technology that keeps advancing, perhaps maybe it'll lower demand for brick and mortar stores/shopping and slow down some development. I think it's so awesome that we do indeed still have a lot of rural areas left! Sometimes I'll randomly search Google Maps and take in the imagery and I notice a lot of rural areas still out there, which is awesome! And I love this old house, so interesting, thanks! Keep up the great finds!

Another Nanna and Papa’s home where they raised a family . I think Gran and Gramps may of been immigrants. I have an old trunk like that which was given to me and my ex from his father who came to Canada after WW II was over from Germany the trunk used to have a top shelf , but the ex removed it and threw it away sadly . I store/ed keepsakes for my children to pass on once they had a family . I also can see Mom and Pop’s living out their days here . Mom obviously moved downstairs after Pop’s passed away . Looks like for the most part Mom stick to that one room which you first entered in the remaining years she lived in the home .I so wish one of the children would return for the antiques. While this house does look ransacked at least there was no graffiti. Thank you for another awesome video .

A wonderful find..I love these old homes.
Some beautiful Antique furniture in there. The wood furniture/beds & dressers are a LOT better made that ones today. When I sold out & moved after my husband died, I left a lot of stuff, what people didn't want, but I took all our bedroom furniture, plus extra chest/drawers from another bedroom. Because I knew they were old & better made, between 40-45+ yrs old. The furniture was in the house when we moved there, my husband inherited it all, & we lived there 22 years I think.
Thanks for sharing this, it was a great video. Be careful in your travels...

Thankyou for sharing this house. Whilst things seem to have been strewn around somewhat there was enough of the original arrangement to be able to imagine living there. I could see, in my mind, someone going upstairs & putting clothes away in that old chest of drawers. Imagine someone standing in that kitchen looking out the window to see if someone is arriving, checking the date on that 2002 calender etc.

I agree, but I figure that it could be that the woodwork was very dirty or marked up or peeling and they didn't have the know how to restore the beautiful old wood.
I babysat for a family as a teen and they had a beautiful basement with gorgeous golden knotty pine panels. Not cheap 70s paneling. I was heartbroken when I walked in one day and they painted it with GLOSSY battleship grey paint. Even as a young girl I knew this was wrong lol.

Is that a metal roof on this place? It sort of looked like it from outside. Seems like really old abandoned places with metal roofs hold up a lot better than the wooden and shingle ones. Very cool find! I could never do this because I would spend all day here looking through stuff and trying to learn everything I could about the last occupants. Thank you for your videos!

Venessa Hamilton; yes you are correct! In fact I have a close friend of 25 years now who is a roofer, mostly copper , slate roofs but just the other day we were talking about different kinds of roofing and he said that medal roofs and slate roofs out last conventional asbestos shingles by a long shot! I guess that's why I'm seeing more and more newer medal roofs going up where I live in the south almost daily? God bless!

Yes! I am really interested in having a metal roof put on my future home. We live in the high desert area of northern AZ and we get insane winds as well as wildfires out here. I'm thinking a ICF (insulated concrete formed) home and a metal roof would make it pretty indestructible and at least fireproof for several hours. Someday!

@Vanessa Hamilton - It is a metal roof, or tin roof as they called them back in the day! They can last a lifetime. My mother’s roof had storm damage and she replaced it with a metal roof about 6 yrs. ago. Insurance companies are quick to approve a metal roof as they are pretty much indestructible.

Loved that mirrored vanity. My grandmother had one, just like that one in the house. It dated back to the 30's.

the cabinet in the kitchen was called a hoosier. on the left side you can see the flour sifter and you would put your bowl underneath to catch whatever you were sifting. I had one for years, mine had a pull out table to roll out your pie crust etc. I wish I still had it now !!!

Wonderful history! I love all the mirror dressers or are they vanities? The one mirror in the hallway was my favorite. Down right shame that it is rotting away. Fixable n I want that porch! Hope your feeling better Kappy. Stay safe and warm. Thanks for sharing. God bless.

I wish there was a computer program to enter pictures and videos of houses like these so we could visualize what they would looked like before they fell into disrepair.
For some reason, I thought you were older. Perhaps it is the respect in which you treat the properties that gave me that idea.
You are same age as my son...now I feel old! I wish he would take me along on adventures like this.. when he told me he explored Kings Park Psychiatric Hospital, my first thought wasn't "that's illegal and dangerous!" it was "why didn't you take Mom!"😆
