Great video as always. I bought a couple of SLZB-06M a month or so ago to get my Z2MQTT network up & running. I set one up as coordinator & one as a router. I really can’t fault them. The UI is simple to understand & set them up with. I was absolutely ecstatic when they received full Z2MQTT support in the last update. Winning one of the #SMLIGHT06 would be perfect as we’re putting in a garden studio this summer which is about 100m away from the house but will have an Ethernet connection. It’s the perfect solution to the problem of remote areas being controlled from within the same, single network ( although I’ll need to really look into how to do that when the time comes). Thanks again for your very well presented, informative & easy to understand videos. They have proved invaluable to me in setting things up, especially as a very new member of the zig bee community. 👍
Yes, you can have multiple coordinators, but only if you use one in ZHA and other in Zigbee2MQTT or if you have multiple Z2M instances. Range is OK. Some cordiantors have upgraded SOC that supports higher signal power, but it depends on the firmware you have and for some, there is still no such firmware.
LOL Just ordered an SLZB-06 two hours before I saw your video ;-) Thanks for the video though, hope they publish your video on their website as well, since it is a good overview.
I have a sky connect , but I also have a very big house wired with cat 5. Can I add one of these in my house as a coordinator and it will be visible in HA and will work alongside my sky connect ?
Great Video, almost skipped this one as i'm new to zigbee, but love the idea of trying the VPN to aging parents house. Also really want to try and see if i can get ethernet connection to work between 2 HA instances (primary & fallback) to improve wifi approval factor during system changes/updates.👍#SMLIGHT06
So you could have a coordinator setup ZHA to local home assistant, then at a remote location another coordinator over VPN added to the same home assistant? Can you add multiple ZHA coordinators in Home assistant or zigbee2MQTT for the remote location?
I just migrated to the 06 non poe from SkyConnect/ZHA/Multi-pan. It took like 8 minutes to do, and so far, ZHA is working well. For some reason, the rssi entities are unknown, and LQI entities are all under 50, and some are 0 for my zigbee device. Strange, but the devices are working. Did you know what is happening? Thanks
It can take a bit of time for RSSI to populate, probably not longer than few hours. But as you said, if devices are working, you are good. You could try to make a ZHA device map, as it may force devices to update, but again, that shouldn't be problem.
@BeardedTinker I contacted SMLITE about this, and they confirm that this is actually a bug that occurs when migrations happen with zha. The only solution now is to delete the network and start all over! Oh no. Maybe now is the time to consider Z2M. Just curious have you made a ZHA to Z2M migration video yet? I will check thank you!
I've seen the #SMLIGHT03 A1-SLWF-03 WLED a few times on YT. I have been interested in looking at one in person. Not only to support the developer, who I believe is in the Ukraine, but because they seem to be a great little device for decorative use and for alert notifications in Home Assistant. The co-ordinators look very interesting, especially the PoE one, but I don't need a co-ordinator right now as I have a Sky Connect and the HA Yellow, but the PoE version looks like it could be very useful in situations where you need to put the co-ordinator in a more central place than where the HA Instance is running.
That's correct. Or, if you are using Promxmox/VM for HA (or even Synology due to "driver" issues), having Ethernet can be a big help!. SLWF-03 is really nice device.
Great video, again! You’re absolutely killing it lately. Id love one of the sound react controllers, I’ve been debating them so much lately! Best of luck everyone!
That great! Been searching for a new coordinatior for about a week now, to replace my old ConbeeII. With the amount of lights and sensors that I have, I'm really starting to experience delays in response when toggling a switch or pushing a physical button. Already came to my own conclusion to get the 06M, because of the better specs and the preference of ZHA, since it's natively built in in Home Assistant. I've literally read everything there is to read about it, and watched Carina's videos as well. And then I found this video (released just now), which basically confirmed what I already was thinking. Thanks a lot for your vids (I've seen a lot of those already, but now I finally subscribed). #SMLIGHT06
Thank you! Smart Light team really did an awesome job with coordinators. Maybe a bit too many of devices available at same time, but than, each one has it's own reasons on why to get (or not get it). 06M is excellent device. I'm thorn between 06 and 06M as my next main device.
Thanks for the video, very informative as usual. Could really use a few of these devices for both the main coordinator and as a relay as I have a large double brick house #SMLIGHT06
@@BeardedTinker doubt thats possible within the HA Add-on version, .. might be with Proxmox then.. thx for your feedback... gonna look in a low priority area with ZHA then and the other area with Z2M..
There is (at least was) workaround for HA OS. You just add another instance of repo, changing the address: For example, first one you add it is: github.com/zigbee2mqtt/hassio-zigbee2mqtt Second one you ad in repository list is github.com/zigbee2mqtt/hassio-zigbee2mqtt/ (notice trailing /). It will create second install link and if you install from that one, it will create additional instance of HA.
Got the SLZB-06 a couple of years ago (I think the first batch) and is still my main cordinator 0 issues! I want another #SMLIGHT06 because why not? ;)
Would you recommend to get a new 06-p10 coordinator,06 p7 or 06m or just the standar SLZB-06 one for M2QTT? Just thinking to get into it and start exploring the zigbee automation options, thanks!
For now I don't see the benefit of P7 or P10. They could potentially in future be a bit better, but that will depend on firmware if and when it gets released. For now 06 or 06M are best options.
Yes you can! But it also depends on setup and expectations. If you want, you can have one as coordinator and others as routers to expand network. BUT those routers will not use WiFi/Ethernet to transfer data, it will be used just for UI. Data will go over Zigbee Network. OR you can have both ZHA and Zigbee2MQTT networks in parallel and have one as coordinator on ZHA, and other as coordinator on Z2M.
@@BeardedTinker is there a way to achieve such a extension of the network? I would like to throw it all the way to the garage which is separate object with the hobby room at the top, and it would be amazing to have one of this flashed as router that would be able to talk with the NUC over ethernet. I have both copper and optic drawn to the garage, but cannot jump there with the zigbee.
@@neshco if you can't extend network via routers on it, you can use this (or similar) device, but you'll need to that also install additional Zigbee2MQTT instance or if you are not using ZHA, just add ZHA with this additional device as coordinator.
#SMLIGHT06 I will use it for offices that are too far from the main home assistant, and have ethernet to extend the network range. A great Zigbee coordinator
#SMLIGHT06 The non-PoE version would be great to cover another floor in my home. My HA server is in the basement, and the plugged in stick doesn't cover the top floor of my house with it's signal. I have the house fully wired with Cat5e cable so it would fit nicely in the setup.
Congrats on winning SLZB-06 coordinator! I'll be needing you rname/shipping address/phone number to forward it for delivery. Please send it via email: giveaway@beardedtinker.com
Name as in name of the device? Were you using name instead of IP address? If yes, try using tool to scan network (for example Angry IP scanner) for IP address of the device and try finding it that way.
My current coordinator is a Conbee II, so winning a #SMLIGHT06 would be the perfect way for me to add Matter/Thread support on my Home Assistant instance :)
I'm using Docker-HA since a year mostly only to get all infos out of the installed solarpanel-system. After a long time thinking of what would be the best system for other automations, some weeks ago I started with a sonoff zigbee-coordinator and a Z2M-Container. Thanks to all your infos and many "little howtos" in your channel, which helped me a lot since! The #SMLIGHT03 would be the first zigbee-LED-strip an controler in my house and would replace an older "dump" one.
They are very similar as both companies really invest a lot in them. I would incline at this point more towards SMLight if you are looking for Remote site support as it has internal Wireguard client. Also UZG-01 is currently using p7 and that one has no SOC amplifier due to firmware limitation, so potentially that's also one of the reasons to go for older but still very good SLZB-06
Great video and seems like great product. #SMLIGHT06 - my USB Zigbee donle is on very unfavorable location, having a way to put it into better location using TCP could improve my mesh a lot!
Enjoyed this, and look forward to all of your videos. I think the #smlight03 controller would let me automate a Department 56 lighthouse for my holiday display, making the light "rotate"
Thanks for the informative videos. My zigbee network has become a little unstable in the past 2 months and I am hoping that I can improve it with a #SMLIGHT06 coordinator upgrade. The sound reactive lighting would be cool upgrade for under my kids bed (he currently has a non-addressable rgb led strip under the bed).
Multiprotocol support? Hmm - I wouldn't recommend it. That is being deprecated due to various issues of running both standards on same device and radio is splitting air time for each of the protocols.
Getting the #SMLIGHT06 would be good for letting me play around with Matter over Thread! Most of my smart home devices currently are Zigbee, paired to a Sonoff CC2652 based stick running via ZHA. It works well for what I've got right now, but it does preclude me from running multiprotocol stuff. Having a second coordinator would give me the flexibility to dedicate some hardware towards experimenting without disrupting my primary network.
Nice, but please note - HA will (but that may change) probably pull out from multi-protocol support. There are some issues with external components they are suing for this to work. Vendor for that part is unable or very slow with fixing bugs, and it all falls down on HA devs for not fixing bugs there. If they cancel multi-protocol support, it will be less stress for them but also for users.
Great video as usual - I'm curious if there's benefit in migrating my Zigbee network from the SONOFF Dongle to one of these. Any thoughts on the network size performance with these? I have around 83 devices now (about 25 of them are routers) but I'm trying to move as much smart home stuff as possible over to zigbee, so this number will easily surpass 100 in the next few weeks. Also, would love the #SMLIGHT03 if I end up getting it. I ordered one a couple of weeks ago, and it died in the first few hours. basically I tried to update firmware using the SMLIGHT Web Flasher, it went to couldn't initialize and since then, has been dead. No power source brings it to life, the PC doesn't detect it at all. I've been going back and forth with SMLight support but without any result so far - they seem to be as stumped as I. So, before writing them off completely for the WLED controller, I'd love to give it another try!
Depends on what Dongle from Sonoff you have. If it's P version, that's "same" as SLZB-06 - with 06 been better as it can do WiFi/Ethernet/USB + as of yesterdy Matter over Thread. If it's Dongle E, that's similar to SLZB-06M - again, same thing applies as to connectivity. Other problem is Firmware, I presume that you've flashed it with alternative firmware as Sonoff ones are limited in terms of devices. Both 06 and 06M can handle over 100 - I think it's 200/300 devices. - 100 direct and 100 more via them. As for your bad experience with 03 WLED, sorry to hear it. Mine is stil working after some cca 60 days. Hope they manage to fix it for you.
Congrats on Winning the WLED controller! I'll need your name & shipping address + phone number. Please send it to me on mail: giveaway@beardedtinker.com Thank you!!!
For the last year my Sonoff ZB Bridge has been really unreliable. I really NEED to upgrade to a #SMLIGHT06 for ethernet connectivity, and it's good that it can be powered over PoE - really nice design. Oh and additional bonus, I was glad to see instructions available in lots of languages including Ukrainian, but no Russian language in sight... I hope we see a lot more of this stuff in the world in the coming years. I'll be very proud to own a piece of Ukrainian technology powering my home 🇺🇦
Not yet - it's actually not that hard, depends on ZHA or Z2M. Some do it automatically for you, just replace the stick and set new one - system offers to restore backup.
#SMLIGHT06 Wish I'd known about this before I went down the old Pi 3B with the backup Sonoff stick with just Z2MQTT installed... Might have been an easier way to expand my mesh!
This would be easier and much better - though Sonoff P Dongle and even E are not that bad. Have both and they still work. But they are really "plain" comparing to these.
Great video! I've always used a Conbee II so I'd be interested to see if #SMLIGHT06 would work better. The amount of devices I have keeps growing and growing so I know I'll need to upgrade at some point soon!
@@BeardedTinker I went a little crazy actually. About 45% are routers and the rest end devices.
Thank you very much for the comment! Yes, it would really be great fit for this use case - remote node/coordinator!!!
Thank you very much! Can you show me that stick as zigbee router have a long range and strong? Can I have 2 or more zigbee Coordinators in on Hassio?
Yes, you can have multiple coordinators, but only if you use one in ZHA and other in Zigbee2MQTT or if you have multiple Z2M instances.
Range is OK. Some cordiantors have upgraded SOC that supports higher signal power, but it depends on the firmware you have and for some, there is still no such firmware.
LOL Just ordered an SLZB-06 two hours before I saw your video ;-)
Thanks for the video though, hope they publish your video on their website as well, since it is a good overview.
Hope you enjoy it - it's really packed coordinator! And just added support for Matter over Thread - didn't expect that one!!
Great review for SLZB devices. I use Sonoff USB 3.0 stick and I would try #SMLIGHT06 in my network. Thanks for useful videos.
I have a sky connect , but I also have a very big house wired with cat 5. Can I add one of these in my house as a coordinator and it will be visible in HA and will work alongside my sky connect ?
You could use SkyConnect with ZHA and this one with Z2M. They can work in parallel.
That's really neat use case!!!
So you could have a coordinator setup ZHA to local home assistant, then at a remote location another coordinator over VPN added to the same home assistant? Can you add multiple ZHA coordinators in Home assistant or zigbee2MQTT for the remote location?
That's correct! Only one ZHA, but you can have multiple Z2M instances installed.
@@BeardedTinker Thanks for the reply, this gives me many ideas now!
Another great video, can teach old dog new tricks. That should expand my coverage and add some light to my game room. #SMLIGHT06
Absolutely! Thanks for the comment!!
I use 2 #SMLIGHT06 with z2m since one year, one as coordinator and one as a router, no issues at all😊
At last an excellent comprehensive look at the SML products. I need to update from my Conbee 2. Thanks Ed👍🏻#SMLIGHT06
I haven't done it. Or tried it so far. Not sure if you can backup in one and restore in the other.
Do you have recommendation for a good Z-Wave stick? Will use with my Synology. Thanks
None so far. I've only tested Z-Station that is combo of ZWave and Zigbee (matter/thread) stick, and also some GPIO mounted devices.
Thanks for video and 👍. It would be great to try matter support with SLZB-06M. #SMLIGHT06
Great video, again! You’re absolutely killing it lately. Id love one of the sound react controllers, I’ve been debating them so much lately! Best of luck everyone!
Thank you very much for the comment!!!
@@BeardedTinker no problem, keep it up!
Thanks! Sound controller is awesome!
could you share any insides in how to address 2 coordinators within zigbee2mqtt? how to address 2 ports?
You need to install multiple instances of Zigbee2MQTT
@@BeardedTinker doubt thats possible within the HA Add-on version, .. might be with Proxmox then.. thx for your feedback... gonna look in a low priority area with ZHA then and the other area with Z2M..
There is (at least was) workaround for HA OS. You just add another instance of repo, changing the address:
For example, first one you add it is:
github.com/zigbee2mqtt/hassio-zigbee2mqtt
Second one you ad in repository list is
github.com/zigbee2mqtt/hassio-zigbee2mqtt/
(notice trailing /).
It will create second install link and if you install from that one, it will create additional instance of HA.
#SMLIGHT06 would be added to my xLights christmas show. Thanks
Great video.but I have a question, with the SLZB-06M can I put 1 on each level of a house so that it works as a repeater?
Yes you can! But it also depends on setup and expectations. If you want, you can have one as coordinator and others as routers to expand network. BUT those routers will not use WiFi/Ethernet to transfer data, it will be used just for UI. Data will go over Zigbee Network.
OR you can have both ZHA and Zigbee2MQTT networks in parallel and have one as coordinator on ZHA, and other as coordinator on Z2M.
@@BeardedTinker thanks So much
@@BeardedTinker is there a way to achieve such a extension of the network?
Ouuuh, this would be my route into Thread ❤ #SMLIGHT06
Thanks for that great overview!
Thank you!!!
@@BeardedTinker sent!
@@radek_jurzysta tnx! Got it!
Thanks for this review, planning on updating my Conbee II stick with the #SMLIGHT06
Good choice!
Everything was ok until I changed the name. Now appears: This site can’t be reached. what can I do?
Name as in name of the device? Were you using name instead of IP address? If yes, try using tool to scan network (for example Angry IP scanner) for IP address of the device and try finding it that way.
@@BeardedTinker In the meantime I found that it can be opened from SMLIGHT SLZB - VISIT.
#SMLIGHTO6 would be great for those buildings too far from the main home assistant instance but have ethernet (e.g. shed)
That's correct, that's excellent use case.
My current coordinator is a Conbee II, so winning a #SMLIGHT06 would be the perfect way for me to add Matter/Thread support on my Home Assistant instance :)
Keeping fingers crossed!
Added!!! BTW - this is not Zigbee, it's WiFi, but works really great! And it's really packed little controller!
How would you compare those with USG-01?
They are very similar as both companies really invest a lot in them. I would incline at this point more towards SMLight if you are looking for Remote site support as it has internal Wireguard client. Also UZG-01 is currently using p7 and that one has no SOC amplifier due to firmware limitation, so potentially that's also one of the reasons to go for older but still very good SLZB-06
Great video and seems like great product. #SMLIGHT06 - my USB Zigbee donle is on very unfavorable location, having a way to put it into better location using TCP could improve my mesh a lot!
Uhhh! ... and adding new matter-functionality with a #SMLIGHT06 to my net would also be nice to tinker with.
Enjoyed this, and look forward to all of your videos.
I think the #smlight03 controller would let me automate a Department 56 lighthouse for my holiday display, making the light "rotate"
Yeah, that would be great fit!!! Good luck with WLED prize - thank you very much for your comment!!!
#smlight06 Sounds like a great versatile device!
Thanks for the informative videos. My zigbee network has become a little unstable in the past 2 months and I am hoping that I can improve it with a #SMLIGHT06 coordinator upgrade. The sound reactive lighting would be cool upgrade for under my kids bed (he currently has a non-addressable rgb led strip under the bed).
its possible to use the smlight slzb-06m for both zigbee and matter over threads with home assistant?
Multiprotocol support? Hmm - I wouldn't recommend it. That is being deprecated due to various issues of running both standards on same device and radio is splitting air time for each of the protocols.
@@BeardedTinker Thanks!! i will use the 06m just for zigbee for the moment.
@@BeardedTinker That's true, yeah, though having multiple coordinators would still let me just run both at a time! A win-win, I'd say :)
I would use the #SMLIGHT06 to extend my ZHA network via wifi to my porch and garden 🙂. Anyway, thank you for a useful review!
Good call!
Thank you for the review. My ha journey just started
Hope you enjoy it!
@@BeardedTinker Thank you so much! I've just emailed you! Very happy to have won this!
I'll be very proud to own a piece of Ukrainian technology powering my home 🇺🇦

great video do you have any video how to migrated to sonoff dongle to the SLZB-06M thanks
Not yet - it's actually not that hard, depends on ZHA or Z2M. Some do it automatically for you, just replace the stick and set new one - system offers to restore backup.
@@BeardedTinker I know, but it doesn't recognize me and the entire zigbee network stopped working, lucky I had backups

Great information in the video. Would be good to try and see if this fixes my large Zigbee network stability with 170+ devices
That's really large network. I have around 80 devices online, and probably another 50-60 that are in boxes still :)
@@BeardedTinker I went a little crazy actually. About 45% are routers and the rest end devices.
These are basically lights, hue dimmers, ikea dimmers, motion sensors, HT sensors, power monitors and door/window sensors for all the windows/doors.
Been struggling with stability actually, I might cut down especially on end devices. At least 4-5 devices fall off the network daily :(. I do think some devices especially tuya power monitors dont play nice, they seem quite chatty in logs. Might need to try without thoese.
@@HarvinderDhillon85 Power monitoring devices do due to frequent updates can make issues on the network. I have only 2-3 that are chatty, but still no issues here.

Thank you for these videos. I'm just getting started with Home Assistant and most of my smart devices are currently WiFi. Trying to learn more about zigbee and figure out the best way to get started. A gateway like the #SMLIGHT06 product line is probably the way I'll go as my HA runs on a VM and can move between hosts making USB options less appealing.
This would fit very nicely!! And good luck with your HA journey, hope it will be fun!
Hope I win one as I LOVE messing with home assistant and winning either the wled or one of the 3 coordinators would/will help in the endeavor. Thanks. #SMLIGHT06

#SMLIGHTO6 Once again a grate video. Probably is a good time to upgrade from an old CC25xx Rev 1. If i win will be use it on my new house to control devices from distance until will be able to move in. Being able to connect over vpn opens the door to so many options.

As always: Great Video. I already acquired a #SMLIGHT06 p7 Version as my primary Zigbee Coordinator and I am very happy with it. Extending my HomeAssistant with Matter over Thread would be awesome!
Edit: I wasn’t aware of the 20db gain issue. Perhaps I should change?🤔
I went with this one, because of the non experimental zigbee2mqtt support and the higher specs of the SOC.
Thank you :)
It's good choice. It still has decent coverage, and also as this is just a firmware issue, updates will probably tackle this in future.
One thing I learned in 25years of professional IT Experience: Never ever buy any device and expect a feature to come in the future. It probably won’t. 😂
But: Hope dies at last.
:D Good point. But, as firmware is developed by community and not some corporate $$$, I really hope this will not be the case here ;)
Another great video! I've been following your channel for years now, and am running Home Assistant on my DS415+ in docker. As this NAS is in my garage, it is not the best location for a Zigbee USB stick. Great to find out about the #SMLIGHT06 which can be placed centrally in my house, right in the middle of all my Zigbee devices :)
