You gotta respect this guy. He's a movie star, he made his own music album, he hosted his own T.V. show. Such a big star and now he's putting time and effort to help a good cause that needs more attention. God bless Tem and the woman's refugee.
I'm from the UK and only know from Once Were Warriors. Sounds weird, as obviously he's an actor, but I;m so surprised at how he doesn't seem anything like his character, but when he played the character, I was convinced a part of him was actually like Jake The muss. Like, not a wife beater, but a tough guy thug. But you can obviously see he's not. Great actor.
Jake The Muss, Jango Fett, Delta 38...no matter what he is, he is a violent character. But beyond the character, he is a person, a human being with a hearth. Never forget that.
He was absolutely right about the character Jake Heke. Everytime he walked in a room or was on screen you were always worried and nervous that he was about to start some shit. It was like a breath of fresh air when he wasn't on screen. My muscles actually relaxed when it was other characters in the shot.

My first boxing coach was Maori, and we talked about Once Were Warriors during a casual conversation. He's the toughest guy I've ever met, but he told me he couldn't finish the movie - it reminded him too much of his upbringing. I had a similar reaction - my dad wasn't as tough as Jake the Muss, but he was just as vicious with his family when I was young. Temuera's performance really brought back that visceral terror I felt as a kid. I'm glad he spends his time trying to help his community - every community needs more of that.
Jake the Muss was not and is not a hero. But Mr Morrison you taking the time to make this video and shining a light on the need of women in such a bad situation helps. I am an American and watched We were warriors and What becomes of the broken hearted years ago. Two of the most powerful movies I have ever seen. Thank you to you and Mrs Owen for playing your parts so convincingly and bringing this subject worldwide. God Bless you both, God Bless the women still stuck and those recovering. And may God still the anger of the men that look up to Jake. They should instead look to their women and realize what a blessing they are.
i cried when i first watched one were warriors. the brutality was so foreign to me having grown up in a peaceful and loving home. I knew it was a fictional story but it hits home every time because every inch of that work is made up of real lives. the brutality, violence, and desperation is real. And Temuera is right, its only gotten worse.
I envy the childhood you had. I grew up in the same environment that you see in the film and it was scary. I feel that’s why I get anxious so fast if I get confronted by someone with an extremely aggressive manner. Because it reminds me of my father who would become a “Jake The Muss” after becoming blind drunk. Thankfully Mum left with us when I was around 8. This film definitely hits home for some of us viewers. It felt so real that I actually had to leave the room and get some fresh air outside. The things that happened back then still follow you well into adulthood. Which is why you see a lot of people struggle with substance abuse - whether that be alcohol or drugs. They still hear and see things in their heads from the past that look like stuff from this movie.
Kayak: Same, I grew up in a very peaceful house. Sure, there were verbal arguments, but nothing serious and no violence. I thank my lucky stars for that. Too many kids aren't nearly as lucky...
@@NearonTC Very sorry to hear. Fortunately, the only domestic abuser I've ever come across was in my old Army unit, and even more fortunately, his Platoon stomped his fucking guts out when they found out why the local PD hauled him off the parade field that morning. Literally, they hospitalized the kid. Better yet, the day he's released from the hospital, the unit initiated dishonorable discharge proceedings on him.

I remember watching this movie for the first time with no context behind what it was about. I was shook to the core. One of my favourite films ever made.
Luckily I’ve grew up only knowing Temura’s roles as Jango Fett, , Boba Fett, and the Clone Troopers, not till after I’ve watched Once we’re Warriors and damn how he played that character haunted me.
Same i was on some movie site looking at all his movies and watched it about 2 years ago theres a 2nd movie as well great movies theres like a 3rd story but its not been made into a movie yet and i doubt it ever will
I've known about OWW for a few years now and, as a survivor of DV, it took til today for me to gather the courage to watch it for the first time. My fears about the movie were justified; Jake was the embodiment of my father, mother, step-father, and latest ex (a testament to Tem's acting skill). I now have Speed 2 playing in the background to help me seperate "Jake" from the awesome that is Tem. It took me 10 years to escape the brutality and violence, that was my family home (and family), + 3 attempts to escape my last ex. The fear and isolation is real; too often you're faced with destitution and homelessness if you leave. I'm glad I'm out, as I'm now back in uni and studying a degree I've always wanted to do xo Thank you Temuera and those who put this awareness vid together. The world needs more folk like yourselves xo
Might I also recommend using Aquaman? He plays Arthur's father and is the opposite of Jake in every way. Warm, loving, faithful, proud of his son, a beautiful embodiment of healthy masculinity.
Much love n respect from here in the States. I’m a native from the US and I see some of my family affected by the D.V. Beautiful video from a humble man, Thank you sir
Hell of a guy! When I first left home, me and 2 mates rented a house in Auckland through a real estate agent. After 6 months, we were told the owner would be coming to do an inspection. Guess who!? We had a drumkit in the garage and Temuera sat down and had a jam! He was so friendly! Was surreal!
Probably one of the better parts of Temuera Morrison getting attention again is that this video is third on the list if you search his name. People need to see this.
A friend of mine from work lent me the DVD. I was only able to watch it for about half an hour or so, the violence just was too much for me. good to see he's doing his bit to help women in situations like those ones in the movie. well done.
What a brilliant Actor Temeura Morrison. Once were warriers a masterpiece. But now the way he speaks up about what happens to women like Beth in the movie is so super this man is a true gentlemen
Was so very hard a film to watch, but the point wasn't lost on me as a man. I was/am never someone like this but appreciate there are so many that are. Makes me ashamed to be a man and understand why so many women hate us. Thumbs up Temuera.
God Bless you Temuera, this is so true. Domestic violence is incredibly scary... My cousin lost her life to domestic violence over 10 years ago... Much love to everyone going through this or who have family/friends going through this. Know that you don't have to stay with the person who is abusing you. Heck you'd probably have a better chance at life escaping than staying in that environment. There are people out there willing to help and shelters, I reckon churches would be good too. Much love, God bless :)
When I watched the movie and what happened to Beth and of course Grace. I sobbed. I still tear up thinking about it and what too many women and children live with . You are a true star in many ways Tem God Bless you and all those people who need help.
A lot of men and women have grown up in this type of environment, and sadly don't know any better. Hopefully they find the help they need to change their lives.
I grew up with a violent father ,earliest memory was father beating my mum at four years old. He had her on ground and was beating her ,I jumped on his back and he flung me across room. Terrible way for children to grow up and for the women. My mum is gone now,I wished she had met someone decent.😢
Once were warriors remains the best movie to come out of NZ . Its raw and its in your face . Its not a true story but the events in the movie are true and happen all over the world . I was a kid in similar family abuse . A very powerful movie that talks the truth about domestic violence
When I watched "Once Were Warriors" for the first time I was 29 years old. It was eye opening. Jake was like my father. My father beat my mom he beat me he beat his own siblings. He was drunk all the time. Everyone feared him. It reminded me of a past I tried to forget. Everyone but one person feared him. The only person who could tame my father was my 300+ pound Samoan grandmother. When she walked into the room he became a quiet little man.
The only movie that impacted me. I grew up in domestic violence and this was looking into a mirror. Tough tough film. Respect to this man for shining a light in “Jake”.
About the young men glorifying Jake, remember they grew up around violence too, they admire the fact that he is strong enough not to get beaten. That's the guy they want to be, they are tired of getting beatings, and so Jake represents ''strength'' to them not ''abuse''. Without the last scene, where Jake uses his strength for ?good?, it would not be the same, that is what they admire, the strength to defeat the abuser.
A truly intelligent and modest guy he knew the type of character JTM was and it was clearly difficult to play somebody like that. Temuera Morrison is easily one of the most underrated actors ever.
What an amazing person. 👍 The more I learn about Tem, the more intriguing and interesting he becomes. He's just a decent human being, and unfortunately that's becoming increasingly rare nowadays.
Actually... Jango literally gets killed ten minutes into the Clone Wars. He's one of the first ever casualties, definitely the first major one. In fact, I haven't seen it for a while, but he might actually be the first person killed apart from droids and maybe a couple of Jedi/clones.
@@kirangrewal7716 I think he was referring to the fact that Tem also plays every singly Clone Trooper and a lot of them did indeed survive the Clone Wars.

I only watched this movie for the first time in December last year. Of course I'd heard about it long ago. Talk about a heartbreaking movie. I have a lot of respect for this man and his message here.
I saw that one movie years and years ago. Man what a role!! What a movie!! Respect! And indeed, the hopeful answer traditional Maori teachings give as a way out is what should be followed. Not the power surges that are abusive and damaging for others and for self!

Wow, having seen the picture Once were Warriors twenty odd years ago, this statement grips me. How very important this message is today cannot be underestimated. No acting, but time to act.
made me weep , hate being a guy sometimes , how can anyone abuse the most beautiful side of our humanity , the mothers of our children , the most cherished of all , to all of you who are suffering right now please walk away , get out and live , do it , now
I can imagine how you must feel. But the issue isn't being a man, it's being a violent man. You can make the choice to use your natural strength for good, to protect the weak and vulnerable. You can use your voice to speak up for these people, to speak kind words, words of encouragement. The world desperately needs men like that, like this man in fact, who is speaking out against violence. You can choose to be a man like that and it does immeasurable good, believe me.
This is absolutely beautiful. This man became an international star by portraying a ferociously abusive alcoholic. He could have gone on with his career not bringing it up again but instead he took a few minutes to use his fame and say "for those of you who are with the real Jake the Muss, here's how to get help". True gentleman.
it's sad that kiwi men glorified Jake. They missed the point of the movie. Jake was a metaphor with what is wrong with the booze filled macho male.. the bullying drunken thug. The hero of the movie was of course Women, all kiwi Women and especially those that far too often seek the help of Womens refuges.
tee brinner definitely not my circle of men. Whilst I was in high school the young men always quoted jake the muss and even had there ring tones set to "il knock your fucking head off" ending scene when Beth leaves jake. So yes some men do idolise jake the muss.
tee brinner plenty of times I've heard "cook me some fucking eggs" aswell, even over heard men talking about fights they've been in saying how they went jake the muss.
Love this guy. I saw this movie many years ago it left a big impression. Thank you, Tem, I hope you realize you shine a great light keep going my friend.
Timura. Will go down as one of the best actors coming out of NZ , this movie opened the world up to what really happens , himself he’s a quiet spoken well mannered guy and cringes at this type of violence , Beths acting was incredible also ,she’s one of my favorite actors , recently saw her in sirens ,

absolute Rock Star. Jake the Muss was my actor in this movie. even when’s he’s angry, it’s funny as shit. thank you Jake the Muss, for this movie. I recognized you in Aqua Man also, but Once were Warriors is the flagship.
SPOILERS FOR BOOK OF BOBA FETT: Although the book of bobs fett was, so far. my least favorite star wars show i can't help but feel that Boba's redemption into a more calm, controlled warrior that avoids fighting when possible is something Temuera needed. To be almost typecast as different versions of the Muss must be hard at times, always having to be violent and toxic. Temuera is such an awesome guy and i hope to see him in more roles in the future
I know an old man in a nursing home. who's children don't speak to him because he was a bad husband a bad father. A wife beater a gambler. He sometimes lies claims he never had children to cover up the fact why no one visits him. Its a great lesson on how not to be.

Bless you my friend. A fine actor a fine man a fine human being….. talented with in site and a worldly over look of society it’s problems, and what needs to be done. More power to you and those like you my friend. Cheers from across the ditch eh 👍🇦🇺
Such a powerful man, and such an incredible character he portrayed.
Wow, having seen the picture Once were Warriors twenty odd years ago, this statement grips me. How very important this message is today cannot be underestimated. No acting, but time to act.
made me weep , hate being a guy sometimes , how can anyone abuse the most beautiful side of our humanity , the mothers of our children , the most cherished of all , to all of you who are suffering right now please walk away , get out and live , do it , now
Atheist Dingo fuck off mate
Cause there too bloody lippy
What sort of idiot hates themselves for what other people do?
@@skipintroux4444 The parents of a child that’s committed a heinous violent act?
I fucking love this guy. So much respect for him!
it's sad that kiwi men glorified Jake. They missed the point of the movie. Jake was a metaphor with what is wrong with the booze filled macho male.. the bullying drunken thug. The hero of the movie was of course Women, all kiwi Women and especially those that far too often seek the help of Womens refuges.
tee brinner they do. Not all
Maybe in your circles Moana or Maori men but the rest of us don't.
tee brinner definitely not my circle of men.
I think cause many maori men went through it as kids they're just desensitized to the violence and look pass the violent side of him
no matter how hard the life of the person temuera plays he always ends up a good man at the end, god bless him
Watched this before-new it was worth watching again!
Enjoy both movies.
I'd love to see an interview of him today june 2020 to see what has transpired since this video and the initial movies
Love this guy. I saw this movie many years ago it left a big impression. Thank you, Tem, I hope you realize you shine a great light keep going my friend.

You deserve the success in the acting world. You’re a great actor. Even like your performance in SPEED 2.

He was FANTASTIC as Jake, he's an excellent person and actor, Rena too! 🎉🎉❤
Timura. Will go down as one of the best actors coming out of NZ , this movie opened the world up to what really happens , himself he’s a quiet spoken well mannered guy and cringes at this type of violence , Beths acting was incredible also ,she’s one of my favorite actors , recently saw her in sirens ,
Love him he is the best nz actor ever ❤️❤️❤️
How anyone could dislike this is beyond me love you brother great film realy hit me in the heart 👍🏻

It is he Narrates alot of Documentaries

absolute Rock Star. Jake the Muss was my actor in this movie. even when’s he’s angry, it’s funny as shit. thank you Jake the Muss, for this movie. I recognized you in Aqua Man also, but Once were Warriors is the flagship.
Top bloke. Much respect ✊.
Thank you Tem.
It's still happening today ......my bro.......witch is quite sad .........heaps of love to te whanau out there
Wow! Very powerful stuff.
respect to you , you have a big heart
SPOILERS FOR BOOK OF BOBA FETT:
Although the book of bobs fett was, so far. my least favorite star wars show i can't help but feel that Boba's redemption into a more calm, controlled warrior that avoids fighting when possible is something Temuera needed. To be almost typecast as different versions of the Muss must be hard at times, always having to be violent and toxic. Temuera is such an awesome guy and i hope to see him in more roles in the future
A GENUINE HUMAN BEING, that made it in HOLLYWOOD. Much RESPECT TIM!🍺👏👏👏👏👏
Wait..... did this guy play Jango Fett in Star Wars?
yes
yes but his best character and the one maked him famous was jake the muss
amazing performance. for me this guy will always be Jake the Muss! not who he actually is in real life.. but always Jake the Muss.
Now you’re playing
Thats amazing. Very powerful
How long for them eggs... starving here!!!
Sorry cuzzy bro, I'm still tryin' ta catch the damn chicken!😆
I know an old man in a nursing home. who's children don't speak to him because he was a bad husband a bad father. A wife beater a gambler. He sometimes lies claims he never had children to cover up the fact why no one visits him. Its a great lesson on how not to be.
She picked him.
Inspiring and captivating.
