I got a Browning 1885 in a 45-70. Very accurate too. An acquaintance of mine redesigned the lock work for Browning. He is no longer with us now. Thinking of you Bob! RIP, BUDDY!
I also have the browning 1885 in 45-70. Not sure what it is about that one, but it's the worst kicking gun I own. I have a dozen 45-70's of different action types and beats the crap out of me.
Only ever saw one in 45-70 that had a 28" octagon barrel. The bluing was absolutely beautiful. I sure was tempted and probably should have at the time. Thanks for posting this video, I forgot completely about the 45-70; now you got me thinking about it all over again, lol.
Wonderful rifle. As much as I love Ruger No 1 rifles, these are even better. The hanger system which allows free floated barrels is a plus for sure. The exposed hammer vs the internal hammer of the Ruger makes the Winchester (Miroku) more appealing to me. The caliber is not needed down here in Texas but the rifle sure is classy.
Back when I was barely in my teens. I had a nowadays rare 22 rifle that I've been looking to reacquire myself. A Colt Stagecoach semi auto. And my best bud at the time had a little 22 Winchester octagon barrel falling block. Beautiful rifle. Another one I've not found. I've been looking for many years for either one. I've always loved the falling blocks.
I've been looking for that model in 38-55WCF for a while now, an old but really neat caliber. Really fun to shoot caliber. The parent case to the 32 Winchester Special, 30-30, 375 Winchester, and the 360 Buckhammer. I had one in a Henry Side Gate, sold it because the brass was a pain in the a$$ to keep clean. The 1885 Winchester is a dream rifle, in 38-55WCF, is a dream rifle for me!
They are wonderful rifles, crazy accurate and you get a couple of extra inches of barrel at least out of the high walls. Have a pair of Brownings, .270 win and 45-70 with 28inch tubes. Just a pleasure to shoot. The Brownings are identical to the Winnies with the exception of super gloss bluing and very well figured hi gloss stocks. I heard a rumor years and years ago that some of the barrels may have been made by Lilja.. Could never confirm that. You will find that scope bases are pricy but well executed. Mounting the scope makes access to the hammer a bit tricky as ocular bells are so damned big in diameter today. Enjoy and thanks for the vid!!
The Japanese 1885’s are top tier; I had one in 375h&h and it was fairly mild for the caliber vs weight. I’d like to have one in 7x57 but I’ve never seen one, but maybe they’ll make a run of them one day, fingers crossed, lol!
I found a 70s 1885 on the used rack at my local bass pro. Snatched it bought a box of 45-70, got it dialed in and two days later killed out of state with it . I'm a bow hunter mostly but have a custom rifle. This 1885 tho is my go to now. Put a marbles sight on it and now it's really accurate for me
I have an older 1885 in 270 Winch. The 28" barrel shoots homebrew 145gr ELDX at 3050fps, with no sign of any pressure... Love it! Accurate as heck too! Enjoy the "shorty".
I have a custom Winchester 1885 made by the C. sharps arms company. I’ve shot it out to 800 yards in black powder competitions. I’ve won my class once and finished second another time. It is a 45-70. I also have a Shiloh sharps I shoot in these competitions and even further to 1000 yards. I will be taking the sharps to a mile match soon where others shoot 1885s and other old school black powder rifles. My sharps is a 45-90. We have to cast our own bullets and load our own black powder ammo. Just because something is old doesn’t mean it isn’t good.
That 1885 appears to be a "low wall" (vs. "high wall") version. Low wall rifles have a shorter receiver (for lower pressure chamberings). That, plus a slightly shorter barrel, makes them a bit lighter and handier than their full size "high wall" variants. My first low wall was in .221 Fireball (rechambered from 22 Hornet) - wicked in the gopher fields - and my last low wall was in 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser. One in 35 Legend would be hard to beat as a "walk in the woods" rifle.
I believe this was the very first rifle JM Browning desined, inspired by the Sharps. There's a low wall & a high wall models, based on the size of cartridge it's chambered in. I think they've been chambered for the 22 Hornet through 45/70.
Pretty gun for sure, maybe they will barrel it in some of the other new calibers as well! I had one years ago in 45-70 Gov't, it was harsh on both ends with potent handloads! Lookin forward to swing some groups with this purty blaster!!
Super cool rifle always have been on my wish list. I have never seen one in 350. I have say thank you for the awesome videos. I wake up everyday and first thing I do is pull you up see what new videos you have. I have stage four cancer and I am on chemo and it helps me get. I started doing some reloading and working on some of my guns. It helps my mind and helps. So with that said thank you for starting my day out. Sorry for the typos but only know how to do this on my phone. lol I say you need to get that rifle she a keeper. Who Tee Who!
One of my favorite rifles! Single shots are my most favorite. One of the last 1885's that I had was a very nice 22-250 that I rechambered to .22/284 which was a mistake...it was one of the most PITA cartridges to reload for... unless you like inside or outside neck reaming and checking for bullet concentricity! Load development was also tricky and the cartridge is very inefficient. The .22/243 Middlestead can appoach it's ballistics and is a dream to reload in comparison! I rebarreled it to .50 Alaskan. As a side note. In .22/284 with the NWM Tungsten core projectiles... the 1885 would consistently out perform standard .50 BMG AP rounds by sailing through 2" cold rolled steel and bulging the back of 2.5" CR steel plates! Testing was done in the late 80's and early 90's.
i have one in 4570 absolutely love it . had murphy precision in the USA make me a piccitiny rail and the factory trigger is very nice maybe 1 1/2 lbs and it shoots lights out with my hardcast bullets as well as the 350 gn jacketed bullets . very accurate im talking half moa . but the hornady jacketed bullets i thought were too soft . do alot of damage to your animal so i went with the hardcast . but all n all its my most favorite gun in my cabinet and i have some very nice guns
Nice!! Have you ever seen a “Rising Block”. Spomer had one on his show a while back! It was cool too. I also like the one that’s a twist lock but hey… they are way out of my budget!😂
@@rayjones5282 I thought that as well. I have a Stevens Favorite that my Dad bought used at a farm sale in the late 40s for $8. I learned to shoot with it.
I had a Browning one quite a few years ago that had a tapered octagon barrel in 25-06. It even had a Browning scope on it. I wish I never let it go. It was a beautiful rifle.
Beautiful rifle. I passed up on one at my local shop. In 45 70. Mixed fillings on passing it up. Ultimately I'm fine with my decision. Beautiful but not my jam.
I've got an 85 in 300 win mag with full octogon 28 in barrel, and it is nice! I was always fascinated with the single shot buffalo rifles of old, but then saw one in 300 wm and just had to have it. It just felt right for being the modern iteration of the old school Buffalo gun but in 300 wm. Then when topped with a Vortex Viper 5-25x, it gets pretty fun.
Hi. I’ve got an original 1885 Winchester/ Browning Winchester 25-20ss. I’ve had it for 50+ years. I have original ammo and finally Dies to reload. It’s really fun to shoot but not really accurate. They used BPowder and it’s Ben hard on the rifling. DakotaSlim
That is sweeeeet! Earlier today I was at my local spot! They had something similar?!? it was a Uberti octagon barrel with that same action! 45 long colt! And of course I’m currently looking for a 45 long colt lol! But? $$$ The guy on my left shoulder said grab it! The guy on my right shoulder said go home and think about it?!?! As you would say! It was quite a few beans! 😂
I would like to have a plain version of that with regular wood and not as mirror finished to actually use and hunt with out in the nasty places. And some form of rimmed cartridge, maybe the new 360. The only one I ever saw that got any field use was a man I knew bought one specifically to hunt wt deer with. And he did indeed use it hard and could drive tacks with it. The only other ones were bought as fondling guns and to hold in the lap laid back in the lazyboy while watching westerns.
Wow , that’s a piece of art . Just love it .
Simply beautiful!
I got a Browning 1885 in a 45-70.
Very accurate too. An acquaintance of mine redesigned the lock work for Browning. He is no longer with us now.

Used to have a 45-70 back in the 90s.
I want one. Looking for a good one. Adam's isn't old to be of that caliber.
I also have the browning 1885 in 45-70. Not sure what it is about that one, but it's the worst kicking gun I own. I have a dozen 45-70's of different action types and beats the crap out of me.
@joshmarklowitz3243
stock design....
I think as far as kick the 45-70 is one of the most kickers that there is
Beautiful rifle. Not a caliber I’d likely purchase, but I really love the look of it.
Gorgeous, would be a great addition to the collection. Thanks for another awesome video.
Love that wood stock ! Very nice looking boom boom!
I’ve got a Browning High Wall in .454 Casull. Pretty sweet.

That's pretty cool!!! I have an original 1885 that is a bull barrel 22short. Glad to see that they are making them again.
What I love about these is the VERY VERY short action part of the rifle. It gives you space for a good long barrel and still have a short handy rifle
Absolutely love it 🤩😍❤

Awesome
Very nice ! I'd rather have a different caliber but still a cool one !
I have always wanted one. They ain't cheap. Nice find!
IMHO one of the most elegant and beautiful rifles ever built. Really prefer pistol grip. Just beautiful.
Pretty rifle !!! Mine is a Uberti- Taylors & CO. High Wall 45/70 ! LOVE it !!!
That rifle started the marriage between Browning and Winchester.
Thanks for sharing that with us.

quite an elegant looking rifle the kind that gives you the gentleman rifle feeling

That looks brand new!!!
Browning made the 1885 for a while. I have one in 30-06 with a 28 inch fully octagonal barrel. It’s heavy but it is supremely accurate.

Yep I have original in .22 hornet double set triggers awesome!
Current production Winchesters are truly a work of art. Precision is the best word to describe them.
So what was the price 🤔
Have loved the action since dang near my birth 63 yrs ago. My dad had one but got rid of it in late 50s too many kids😂. Would love to get one someday

Those are cool rifles, I’ve seen these before but was always out of my budget, but I’m kinda a single shot guy !! , Beautiful pc of art n history !!
Pretty cool! I’ve shot a buddies Ruger No 1 in 30-06. It was very accurate gun.

Beautiful.
About 28 years ago I used to have a nice Browning high wall similar to that in 454 casull.
I have one of those! Browning made 200 in that caliber.
That would be a really cool caliber to have one in. If anyone made lever actions in 454 I'd definitely buy one
@@dukenukem69Rossi makes em. I just sold one. The old shoulder won't take it anymore.
Interarms used to bring in the Puma lever action in 454 Casull.
