    Having a bass tank as bass fisherman really adds to the hobby when you are at home and not on the lake
    Nice job

    When I was in high school many years ago I got my start at fish keeping. I caught some wild minnows and put them in a big aquarium that my teacher had given me. They took to it like it was nothing. They were living the life. Food,filtration, you name it I gave it to them. Thanks for sharing and bringing back memories from my childhood. Your tank is absolutely gorgeous.

    I have a bass in a 55 gallon tank and its been in it for about a year or possibly a bit longer. It stays so clean its amazing. I rarely do water changes, I have only done like 5 gallon changes maybe 4 times in over a year. I test the water for ammonia and all and its just super clean when I do. I'm really amazed how clean it stays. I have a 30 gallon tank I keep feeder fish in like goldfish and minnows and I'm always having to clean and do water changes in it but the bass tank I don't. I just got a 120 gallon tank I'm resealing and going to set it up for the bass. He is a eating machine. He can eat up to 10 minnows at a time if I put that many in but its pretty much to much for him but he would do it just like a dog would eat a 2 lb steak if he could. In fact a bass reminds me so much of my dogs its funny. He gets all excited when I walk in the room and will come out of hiding and watch me and start working his mouth like he knows he is going to eat. Cool set up you have for sure I will be setting mine up similar to yours one its complete.

    Tank looks nice. I kept a female about 20 years ago in a 7'Lx2W'x2'Tall Oceanic 200 gallon tank. Ate anything from hard kibble type dog food (some of my friends fed her that when I wasn't there) to live rats/bullfrogs. It grew from 4lbs.10oz. up to 7lbs 4oz. Tame enough to hand feed from the wild in 7-10 days or less. Extremely Smart Fish. Most people don't give them enough credit on their intelligence.

    I always thought that SMB would fit fine in a 125 gallon tank. Then I saw what a 4# one looks like. Stronger and faster than most similar sized fish in the aquarium hobby that would be ok in a 125 gallon. These things truly become BEASTS.

    Rad. I was just thinking about doing this. I have an 80 gallon tank. I love the idea of putting them back, when they get too big, and catching more. Get to fish more, and keep your tank ever changing. And they all get to live their lives out.

    Video was great I did the same thing many years ago with a Florida Large Mouth Bass, had him for 3 years till he died, he was incredibly smart, ate so much that he ate me out of house and home. I resorted at winter time to feeding him balls of lean hamburger. He would actually play fetch with a large plastic stone. Raised him from a 3/4" minnow. One of the best pets I have ever had.

    first off let me say it's nice to finally see someone that knows what they're talking about when it comes to native fish. your tank is similar to mine. mines a 90 and I've had several bass mostly spots. I think your drift wood is perfect with the open space to the left. plus with the wood going to the surface you could get a little red slider turtle and he could get out of the water on the wood. I had one and it was great and I have the same type wood positioned so he could surface. they both are incredible to watch especially feeding. and yes bass grow very fast so you can't really get attached to them. anyway again good job!

    I have two little ones in my tank with some cichlids. Have to feed both at the same time at opposite ends of the tank or the dominant one gets all the worms. The dominant one is starting to eat some of the ciclid pellets now, which will make feeding easier. They also like little strips of venison about as well as worms.

    From personal experience with my pet bass War Eagle, you forgot to mention that it's also illegal, but nobody really enforces that law. When we were selling our house to move, we had police officers come to showings of our house. They left me a sticky note on my fish tank saying it's illegal but awesome. Just be a little bit careful of who you mention to that you have a pet bass.

    I got a 70g Metaframe for my 10th BD. Not many fish stores in back then. I used a cast net to catch all kinds of lake fish. Caught a Large Mouth Bass about 3 inches long added hi to my tank which was full many different pan fish at that time a little bigger than the bass it also had crawdads and other various creatures from the lakes. I feed the Bass every thing I that he would eat within year my tank was empty except for the Bass. I would change the water maybe once a month if that much. It had to 2 sponge filters with under gravel filters. When I let him go he was around 12". So easy to keep. I am 63 now and still keep fish.

  • @Hubrishumilityok
    @Hubrishumilityok 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Cool video, however wild caught fish are usually less hardy then captive-bred fish. While they are used to temperature changes, most fish are. However wild-caught fish are used to certain water parameters. Of course some wild fish are hardier than others, but a general rule of thumb is that its better to buy captive-bred rather then wild-caught.

  • @jackdiller9087
    @jackdiller9087 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I have to say, people will say the tank is too small, and it is. But at the same time, the bass is living like a gar or snakehead would, and they are less territorial, so, you have to consider that although the tank may be too small for him to swim around as a smaller fish would, he is by no means suffering.

    • @Brendan_O
      @Brendan_O 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jack Diller i kind of agree, for its size it is not suffering. my rule is a foot wider and 3 feet longer and a fish like a bass should be fine. water quality is the harder thing to get right for a fish that big. generally a strict water change schedule or an automatic system is what is needed.

    • @jackdiller9087
      @jackdiller9087 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I mean it's no secret, more water/space means more stability and less radical fluctuations in a small environment like a terrarium, fish tank, etc you name it, ideally this fish would have an entire swimming pool to itself, but we can't always provide a better-than-ideal scenario. Ideally, any one fish would have an entire swimming pool to itself, and, that being said, keeping any fish in the first place is not necessary to begin with, so, doing your best is the #1 priority, and this guy is doing his best for his fish, even if the tank is cramped, the fish, still, is not suffering, and is not potential prey in the wild. Though it should be noted this fish absolutely should not be released back into the wild as its hormones and scheduling is now all fucked up. But on the bright side, this fish has no risks presented to it by being potentially eaten or killed or fished by a predator, so that's always good.

    • @Brendan_O
      @Brendan_O 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jack Diller i think we are in agreement. that tank he has is definitely big enough for a lone bass that size as long as water quality is kept up.

    • @zekethefishgeek8690
      @zekethefishgeek8690 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Collin Randall Outdoors-> does it swim up to the rocks, driftwood, or anything else and then rub it's sides of the body against those things?
      Maybe a parasitic infestation possibly.

    I caught a 7 inch small mouth 2/3 days ago and it's in a 95 gallon and I put 5 big tadpoles and 15/16 small shad with it. When do you think it will start to eat?

    If I just left one in a 30 gallon tank would it die or stop growing at some point?

    • @AClark318
      @AClark318  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Martin Albert 30g is a pretty small tank. Personally, I wouldn’t put one in anything smaller than a 75g. If you keep an eye out you can find a 75g used for what a 30g cost new.

    How did you make the water look green? Is it because of the black background or some sort of lighting you have?

    • @romierome6
      @romierome6 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can't get the green out of my tank lol. no background or nothing. how do you keep it so clear?

    • @nm7957
      @nm7957 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      its just algae lol. If you''re trying to get rid of it make sure to keep up with your water changes, keep your filtration media fresh and you could also get some fish that eat algae.

    • @nm7957
      @nm7957 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      the tannins coming from the wood he has in the tank will cause your water to change to be a darker brownish color too.

    If you guys want to keep fish in an Aquarium every inch of fish should have at least 5 gallons of water or one foot of swimming space at minimum. Hope this helps.
