Hi friends! Unfortunately Mr Johnny Cash is still missing. Thanks so much for all your kind words and prayers. It means the world to me and I’m trying not to give up hope for his safe return.
I am a 13 year old boy and no I am not interested in most of the topics of your videos but I am 60 years old on the inside. Most say I am an old soul. I do like the style of everything in the videos. Unlike most kids, I don't play videogames at all. I just enjoy building things in the woods like small shacks out of scrap wood. And when the day is over, I go to my room and play some of my 45 records, with songs such as whispering bells by the del vikings, at the hop by Danny and the Juniors, love is strange by mickey and Sylvia, and many more. I pretty much try to make my life like it is the 50s, but obviously that is not too easy when you are surrounded and living in the 2020s. But I just wanted to say that seeing people who have a great interest in the 50s really makes me happy, and it lets me know that I'm not the only one. Thank you.
I wore a size 5 for many years. Now that would be a 0 or 2. I weighed 98 lbs and I thought I was fat. Can you believe it? I was born back then when ladies always wore dresses around the house, you didn’t work on Sunday, you went to church and stayed in your dress clothes all day. You had company for dinner or went to someone else’s home for dinner. TV stunk. You didn’t go shopping because all the stores were closed so you better be prepared. I didn’t own blue jeans nor sneakers except for gym class or playing outside, but often you had oxfords or saddle shoes. I wear saddle shoes still. Keds was the sneakers brand as were black and white ball tennis shoes with a high top for boys. Keds were $1.00 a pair, maybe $2 and they came in white. I could go on and on about nylons and garter belts, the horrible cotton brassiere, anklets, which I like, but are hard to find. Boys were sent home from school for wearing engineer boots and heaven forbid if you chewed gum in class. It was a wonderful time to grow up. Very helpful.
I graduated high school in 1970. I remember wearing a girdle and nylons to class. No one could jiggle! Lol! Pants were not allowed. Boys couldnt wear jeans. Awful!
Fun fact: Rayon was the first synthetic (I like to call it a semi-synthetic) textile. It was first created commercially in 1910 and spiked in popularity in the 1930s and 40s for wearable items because of WWII. I like to call it a semi-synthetic because it is made starting out with cellulose (most commonly wood pulp).
13:30 One thing to note, from what I’ve heard, it’s specifically the year 1971 were care instructions were mandatory on clothing. “In 1971 the Federal Trade Commission released the “Care Labeling Rule” which required all manufacturers (including importers) of apparel to include garment care instructions on an interior tag.”
When you were showing the Union labels it triggered a childhood memory. Look for the union label commercials. Of course I had to google and watch it! Um, I think I’m officially old now.🤣
Hi, Lacey, Great Job! I know that had to be very very difficult with Mr. Johnny Cash on your mind. I maintain my prayers for you and for him and a safe return. XO Deirdre
Thank you for sharing this Laci I have some of my grandma 1940s Vintage clothing what I love to wear everyday what she had wearing of the photos what I looked at ... ❤☺
Maybe some reviews of 50s themed content (WandaVision, Dexter’s Lab, I Love Lucy, Jetsons) would be nice. I know of some TH-camrs who do stuff like that. Might be hard to dodge the copyright bullets tho
Wishing the 50’s dresses would come back! I have a few 50’s inspired dresses and I love them! I saw that your Kitty made it back home! So happy the family is back together! 💖💖💖🐈⬛
Oh no.....I’m sorry Laci about your kitty. I really thought he’d be back after playing outdoors. Aw......I hope he comes back. I remember my mom told me cats can travel up to a 20 mile radius. Hopefully he’s traveling back!! Or...in the arms of someone loving..... I remember when I lost my kitty when I was a kid. After a month....their he was!! Beat up, dirty, but he made it home. I pray that for you...
I am a true vintage neighbor {72 yrs old-born in 1951} and I love, love, love vintage dresses from the 30s and 40s! Thank you for the inspirations and the memories of my childhood.
@@twobrokeguyz1214 Well I guess either way, she threw him off because he came home. lol Maybe he's just back to rest his loins. He'll either kick back and enjoy his memories, or he'll be planning his next adventure.
Would love to see a new vlog with Johnny Cash's return, Laci. So happy he's returned home. Johnny is my fav among your pets. He just looks so cool like a black panther and with a cool name named after "The Man In Black."
Your video is fabulous. The information so timeless; heed it. My mother taught me when I was a young girl (the 50s) about fabric, workmanship and design. I’ve been collecting over 55 years. Always extra buttons and sometimes different size buttons as found (hidden) on the garment. The oversize buttons on the vintage fur or the fine wool swing coats. Mother-of-Pearl buttons, self-covered buttons as you alluded to. The garments of yesteryear have a mystique all their own. I’m preparing to launch my own “unique boutique” soon on eBay. Hallelujah 🎉
Could we have a spring lookbook? Maybe inspired by spring holidays, like St. Patricks day, Easter, and even a Spring Break look! I love your lookbooks and I feel like they really inspire me to style my own vintage looks 😊
What a great video superb as usual. My cat disappeared for two weeks once he got out the first day I moved in. I was distraught then one morning at 4 I heard her at the front door. I rushed downstairs and the whole house was up then welcoming her back. xx
@@gohawks3571 yeah it’s just on Poshmark- Rose Colored Glasses Closet. I sell other stuff too because my vintage stuff goes FAST. I want to get more serious about doing all vintage.
Such great info on the identifying factors in garments! Just want to mention that I wore a gown to my sister's wedding in 1978 and it had an invisible zipper in the side seam (which, funnily enough, busted when I wore it to my prom in 1981, lol). So, a garment with an invisible zipper could be from a time earlier than the '90s. Hugs re Johnny Cash!!
I really enjoy your videos!! You have a kind and sweet spirit. So much interesting information. And it takes me back to my childhood. Saw so many of the things that you show or talk about in my parents home and my grandparents homes. Very fond memories. Thank you!!! Take care!!:)
Sometimes when at an estate sale or a yard sale looking at the other stuff in the house will help date the clothing. Most of the time when I am at say an estate sale for a 60's house I will find clothing from the 60's onward. If you are lucky enough to be at a yard sale or an estate sale that the owners are there you can ask if they remember when something was bought.
I'm so sorry to hear about Mr. Johnny Cash. Someone else said it and it's true for me also! I watch all of your videos and love them!!! Have a wonderful evening!
Great instructional video The perfect clothing size of the 60s was size 12. I was a 10 or 12 (not any more) It’s such a psychological thing not to be a certain size now. Thank you Lacey loved video, I know you must be so worried about Johnny cash,,, praying lots for him,,,just love see vintage neighborhood every week, you are a special girl,❣️😾
Thank you for your video. I have recently met a 97-year-old woman who has had nobody come through her house offer me to go through and pick out what I want because she wants to get rid of it and her kids have already gone through the house. She must have 2000 pieces of clothing it is absolutely amazing I’m going to watch more of your videos to educate myself. Thank you again..
Yesss! The zipper tip and seams are super helpful! I found a dress at a vintage shop that was est 60s but the silhouette, seams finished with bias tape, side metal zipper all lean 50s! And I always go by my measurements too with sizing but looking in the larger sizes at the thrift store is a great trick for finding vintage! I have vintage fashion guild bookmarked too 😆 and their Union label guide!
Hi Laci! I hope the crocheted gloves and patterns I sent arrived in good shape. I don't do vintage clothing but love the household accessories of the Atomic Age. I greatly enjoy your stylish and fun channel.

Very informative, Laci! I learned something new about clothing labels and I've been around since the early 1950's. You might look for Johnny Cash in Garages in your neighborhood. Someone may have had a door open temporarily and Mr Cash may have wandered in. This happened to a Friend's cat. He eventually was found and returned after a few weeks. Hopefully your reunion will be very soon.
Hello Laci, it’s so good to see you in a video today! Wow, so much good information here on what to look for. Your dress today is very pretty and very spring 💛💗 I’m still keeping you and Johnny Cash in my prayers. I know it must be hard but good positive thoughts that he’ll come home
Hey Laci🤗really good video👗❤️👗I am a seamstress since I was 13. Plastic zippers come out early To mid 1970s. I remember my first plastic zipper I did not like them🤪I thought they would break easy. ☕️🐈🎀also the garment label IS VERY important when looking to buy a vintage or antique dress👗❤️❤️
Thank you this is so much help. I was wondering if your family is also interested in vintage things like you? Or do they just accept/allow that you are different than they are? Do you have a video explaining how you became interested in vintage style? I’ve been here probably five months I think and don’t recall you mentioning this; however I could have missed it.
I watched a ton of vintage videos, but yours is the Very Best. I would Appreciate it if you could make multiple videos showing us clothes by "Each" decade....one video for 70s clothes only....one video for the 60s only....etc. Show us what to look for to know if a piece is from the 70s decade....like what the seams should look like, what style, what fabrics, is there a care tag, what kind of zipper is common and the placement, what the tags can look like, length of a dress, what the sleeves look like, what does the collar look like. This would be a tremendous help for those new to the field of vintage clothes. Thank You so much for your help.
Hey Laci girl, loved the bells, thought it gave everything a nice ring.😉 Glad see you back hope you were able to find your precious kitty. Wonderful video, very informative. I love the 50s era simply because dresses became a little wider in the hips. I was born in the fifties so it's a special time for me. Thank you bringing vintage back.🌹

I was trying to date a skirt recently and finally decided it was probably fifties because of the metal zipper and the knubby green wool fabric. But I know little about the things like labels and fasteners. What about hemlines? I am so glad to find your channel and look forward to learning more about vintage things I'm unfamiliar with.
I have a beautiful red dressing gown (? I'm not sure what it's called...it was described as like a robe you wear over pajamas if someone comes for an evening visit?) with the brand Saybury. It's my favorite piece of vintage clothing! Unfortunately, I can't find much on the brand (but I think they've been around a while). I'm going to take a good look at the gown after watching your video, thanks!
Hello! I bought this beautiful vintage dress a couple days ago, it has a fitted bodice, a boat neckline, no sleeves, and an A line skirt with a matching belt. It closes with an invisible zipper and some seam finishes are folded over and stitched, others are surged, and there's some really pretty zigzag looking hand stitching. In the store it was labeled 50s or 60s, from the cut someone else thought maybe even earlier, but with the surging and zipper I'm not sure about that. There's no tag either, and you can tell someone put a lot of time into this dress! What do you think?
Vintage house keeping and vintage gardening would be interesting as we rarely see this. And is there are reason why snake plants/mother in-law's tongue were popular in the MDM look?
I have been so worried about your cat! I had hoped he showed up. I’m so sorry. He probably misses you just as much. Here’s to him showing up in one piece!!!!
Hi friends! Unfortunately Mr Johnny Cash is still missing. Thanks so much for all your kind words and prayers. It means the world to me and I’m trying not to give up hope for his safe return.
Don't give up, I'm sure he is out there

Oh, I was hoping for some good news. Don't give up hope, he might just wander back home unexpectedly x

hi laci i hope johnny cash has return safely love the vids ☺️
Your knowledge is outstanding...xx
Great video as always! Praying for Johnny Cash's safe return ❤

Hi Laci, I just love your videos. You always look lovely. Do you know what style (other than mid-century) your sofa set is?
Vintage house keeping and vintage gardening would be interesting as we rarely see this. And is there are reason why snake plants/mother in-law's tongue were popular in the MDM look?
Really helpful, thank you
Would love to see more vintage shopping videos 😃

I have always wanted to live in the 1950s that is my favorite era.

I have been so worried about your cat! I had hoped he showed up. I’m so sorry. He probably misses you just as much. Here’s to him showing up in one piece!!!!
