I think Donna deserves a proper sendoff after the 60th. Also I kinda feel bad for Amy and Rory's ending. While yes they did end up together and die peacefully, it would've been nice if they left at the end of The Power Of Three.
What about Clara? She lost Danny due to schemes by the Master/Mistress. She nearly died trying to save the Doctor from the GI. She was killed trying to save someone's life, pulled out of time where the Doctor tried to erase her mind. She really didn't get what she wanted. She lost the love of her life. Her heart was broken. And she was killed. Fun times. At least with the 13th Doctor, after Grace, they were all returned alive and parted on good terms.
Even before the cyber conversion Bill had to deal with sacrificing Earth to save the Doctor, living in that hellscape and then believing that the Doctor was turned and against her.
Always thought that was a bit cheap. Sure they've spend a lot of time together, but we barely see anything of it. So in the show it came off like: "Oh those characters who didn't get their love? Uhm, guess what, they're married now" But after all I think they're happy, yeah:D
His exit wasn't bad, Mickey's low point was "I’m… Oh, my God, I’m the tin dog" realizing that at that point his reality didn't live up to his perception.
Those two getting together never seemed right. When Martha first called the Doctor and Donna to deal with Atmos / Sontaraan, and then when they got back from the Doctors Daughter she clearly stated that she was engaged.. They made big deal about the ring and her calling as soon as she got back.
Honestly, I'd have put Peri right at the top. Half of the adventures she was supposed to have were cancelled along with the entire character arc she was supposed to share with the Sixth Doctor, and she instead winds up either getting killed and replaced in her own body, which is... bad, or married to a warrior king which, for a person who's got such clear anxiety problems, has got to be almost as bad. Really, both in- and out-of-universe Peri got one hell of a short stick.
Martha Jones and Mickey Smith I feel kinda need to return atleast 1 or 2 more times in this current era we're in, she's really underrated and deserves a second chance

Thing is... you've made me think that the Bill & Heather name choices actually may be a sly reference that I'd never spotted! When fans run a show, you never know what's a subtle call-back!!!
the worst part about bill dieing is that the doctor was only a few hours late meaning if he had of prematurely ended one of his conversations bill would've survived.
Sara Kingdom was played by Jean Marsh, who later appeared as Morgana in a seventh Doctor story. Martha Jones went on to work for Torchwood, and married Mickey after his return from the parallel universe, and they become hunters of dangerous aliens. Actually the betrayal of Peri turned out to a lie, by the Valyard. Peri actually was rescued by an alien warrior king and married him. Bill Potts was a member of the kitchen staff, who was privately tutored by the Doctor, who was posing as a university lecturer, while holding Missy captive with the help of Nardole. It was actually only 20 minutes for Bill as a cyberman, but for the Doctor it was ten years before he got there, because of the time dilation on the ship, they were on.
Jamie and Zoe were returned to the moment each keft with the Doctor. They were each left with the memory of their first adventure. Still robbed, but at least they would know him (despite how the botched writing for them in The Five Doctors.

Dodo, Ben and Polly didn't get perfect exits i feel, Dodo departs half way through a story, passing on her goodbyes through Ben and Polly, Ben and Polly disappear two episodes into their final adventure, returning for a pre-filmed scene deciding to leave now they're back home
As if rose is number 3 like bruh she got what she wanted so In terms of this video You could be aged to death and that's fine I guess but given your own doctor and able to live your life with him yeah far worse
I believe that the Time Lords erased Jamie and Zoe's memories of their _continuing adventures_ with the Doctor, but they _would_ remember their very first "only" interaction with him: effectively they were dropped off at a point just before they went on to the TARDIS as companions.
I think #11 would be Dodo Chaplet - comes in with a distinctive accent and attitude, which are immediately deleted by the BBC because they were old; gets hypnotized halfway through The War Machines and is never seen again, not even a goodbye scene.
Liz Shaw wasn't a change in being an intelligent female scientist. The previous female companion, Zoe, was exactly that. Both were geniuses and Zoe was more likely to work out something the Doctor hadn't.
Please keep in mind that that first season of Pertwee had three 7 episode story arcs. All were brilliant and all limited to Earth. I would've liked more episodes with Liz.
Donna should have been higher up. And can we give an honorable mention to Dodo, who was just written out of the last two episodes of her final story, never to be seen and barely heard from again?
I read somewhere that Mickey and Martha didn't make sense since Mickey is a coward. Apparently they stopped watching and missed the part where Mickey stayed in the alternate universe to fight the Cyberman and stay with his grandma who had already passed in the our world. He returned his grandma had passed on. But he wasn't the scared little girl as 10 called him when they met Sarah Jane anymore. He was now a fighter and was doing what he wants to do. Martha yes her dream was to be a doctor. But the year that never was changed her. Her time with the Doctor changed her. I don't see it as ooc for either one to connect. Her doctor that she was engaged to could never understand what all she's been through. Mickey can understand. She may not be a doctor anymore but that just says she changed what she thought she wanted all her life.
Lol Mickey wasn’t a coward he was a learner and curious….. and he stepped up on plenty occasions but he was limited by his respect and love for rose who was a spoiled brat and indecisive
They dont make sense though. The last time we saw Martha during the Atmos / Sontaraan episodes - its mentioned that she's engaged. They made a big deal about the ring; not to mention that she called him as soon as Tardis returned from the Doctors Daughter adventure. That took place what - less than 1-2 years from 10's farewell tour?
Peri and Six's relationship, in my opinion, always seemed to be that of a nurse and her extremely OFF the rails elderly citizen she had to take care of. If anyone's seen Monk- it's kind of like that dynamic between Monk and his nurse, except Six is extremely egotistical and a total bastard. However, at the end of the day- Peri stayed because The Doctor cared about her, and he saved her life- a lot. Sure, strangulation on month one is a huge dealbreaker for a companion- But Six saved her life and the day in that very same story- and althohgh he was difficult- he more then made up for it by continuing to allow her to stay aboard The Tardis and well... being friends with her.
I don't want to nitpick but I watched trial of a timelord recently 6 didn't betray Peri he was taken out of time by the timelords and she was captured resulting in the events that led to her "death.".
While the ending of Doomsday hits hard, the fact that Journey's End overrides it kind of makes me think Rose shouldn't be on the list. You can say something similar for Donna's ending between Journey's End, The End of Time and The Star Beast, but she still had to live a good portion of her life without her memories whereas Rose was only without a version of The Doctor for about a year or so. I can see the argument someone made for Rory to be on the list, but I'd like to nominate Katarina, a Trojan priestess who debuted in The Myth Makers and died in the very next story, The Daleks' Master Plan (the same one Sara Kingdom was introduced and killed in). It was a heroic sacrifice, but she was written out because the writers thought her character was too limiting. She never even had a chance, and so (along with Sara) feels more akin to some of those characters who have their companion status teased, only to get killed off - Lynda from Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways or Astrid from Voyage of the Damned, for example.
Not sure Rose belongs here, she got way more than she deserved. Though there may be some bias as I think she's one of the worst companions in the program's history, whiny, annoying and horrendously selfish. Doctor: Trying to fix a dire event that could have catastrophic consequences for the galaxy. Rose: "But what about me?"
OH come on, Micky made a good tin dog, It made him happy to stay with his old gran till she passed away and then went back to his old life. Micky was more stay at home than jump around in time guy. He did things his way.
9:25 Bill Potts was not a normal university student in the beginning, she worked in the cafeteria servicing chips (fries) and snuck into The Doctor’s classes. If you are going to speak with authority, be correct
@@WhoCulture True but you were referring to the 5 Doctors scene as a not particularly good revisit of characters who had a bad send off. But Jamie got a much better revisit in The Two Doctors. And there wasn't too much _else_ great about that story _except_ #2 and Jamie showing up! Unless you like to watch moth collectors die in a massively hammed up way that is... :)
Seemed like his Two Doctors story was actually taken from a time they'd just dropped off Victoria. So in the end, he still got his memories erased. Although it was final time he was seen on screen.
let's be fair. Mickey and Martha both grew very strong from their time with the Doctor and they did end up marrying each other (happily, it appears) and becoming alien hunters.
@@ericreese7792 Yeah she even got revenge on him in a way according to tv tropes:Jackie Lane got her own revenge when she'd become an agent representing actors who did voiceover work. Lloyd came to her a few years later, asking if she could find him work. She reminded him that he'd sacked her from Doctor Who, and declined to represent him.
Things got worse for her in the novels: getting a STD in the Missing Adventure The Man in the Velvet Mask and the Master had her murdered in Who Killed Kennedy.
Was sad when *Leela* and *K9* left the *Doctor* by choosing to stay on *Gallifrey* 🛢 followed by immediately happy when the *Doctor* pulled a crate labeled *K9* mark 2 into the Tardis control room ♜
Of all the "stayed behind to be with someone they loved" endings, hers is probably the most out of left field and flat. Even Louise Jameson feels it would have been better for Leela to fall in battle defending the Doctor than just be married off to Andred like she was a sack of potatoes.
With Rose i was satisfied with her original ending and it was emotional what ruined it was bringing her back in Series 4 when she didn't need to be she was there to make the fangirls happy and fan service that was it and to get her happily ever after with her clone Doctor which didnt need to happen.
I may have commented here before (and the Orwellian cyptofascist cyberninjas put it down the Memory Hole); but I vividly remember how shocking it was when Adric is died. I had watched the episode with my college roommate (whose name was very to Prime Minister of Canada at the time😎😎)
I can’t wait to see Donna Noble again. I think a lot of us felt the pain of Peri Brown in so many wayse. What was done to the Bill Potts character was just sad
Rory and bill They hard it worst Rory died multiple times Had to wait and guard for 2000 years Bill had to wait for the doctor to save her But got turned into cyberman Atleast she turned into an intelligent fuel
Not an Adric hater. That last episode of Earthshock really pulled on the heartstrings. Silent and just the remains of his Badge for Mathematical Excellence on the screen, after using it to kill a cyberman. To me that is one of the most moving and poignant moments in all of Doctor Who.
Actually Adric shined better than many episodes in Earthshock. Why couldn't he have been like this more? I sometimes felt he actually got on better with the 4th Doctor in his last few stories.
@@IAmPegasus I noticed that as well. He should've left when the Doctor regenerated but I'm guessing he couldn't since he's from E-space in normal space and it would've taken him so long to get back there.
This list was so ass. 😂 Donna should've been #1 no questions asked. Bill got immortality alongside a girl she loved. Mickey got to see his gran gran again and ended up with Martha. Martha became a hero. Rose ended up with a doctor who would grow old beside her. What show were you guys watching? Lmfao
I agree with most of these, the exceptions being Rose and Martha. Katarina could easily replace Rose, since as others have suggested she got everything she wanted in the end. Martha is my second favorite of NuWho companions, Amy being first of course. Martha had it pretty good, and ended up pretty well. The thing about Martha was she wasn't the most important person in the universe, she didn't have the entirety of space and time running through her mind, and entire races did not sing about her. She was just Martha, and that was enough. To replace Martha, I would put Susan. She got left behind much against her will, and (except for a brief appearance in the Five Doctors, which may or may not have actually happened) was never seen or heard from again. Kind of a raw deal if you ask me. You didn't, but if you had...
I don't know about deserving a better fate but I think all those Classic Who companions who left because they "met a guy" (Susan, Jo, Leela - was that all?) could have been written out better
Tenant may revisit old companions to close up these unanswered ends we as the audience have debated about since the 60s across all the timelines since he's coming back as the 14th doctor this will open alot of avenues were
I have to agree you on Perri she deserved much better than she got. in fact, I think she would have like to have seen her paired with a better and more likable doctor than the sixth doctor. That guy was too pompous and Arogant for my taste. My only complaint about Perri is her accent. Her character bio says that she is from Boston but I can tell every time I watch reruns of the show on Britbox that she's isn't from Boston. In fact, i can pretty much tell that she isn't from anywhere east of the Mississipi for that matter becuase this part of the country has a variety of accents ranging from the southern drawl where every other word seems to be Y'all to the Brooklyn Accent where R's become I's and I's become O's. Perri doesn't even speak with any of those accent. She doesn't even seem to have a california acdent where every other word is either like or dude.
I'm glad bill (spoiler for this video) was number 1 on this list. I've never rewatched that season because it's too painful her being turned into a cyberman, I've never forgiven doctor who for that and I never will.
you even say in the video that rose did get a good ending but yet you put her on the list! if anything amy and rory deserved more of a happier ending then they got in comparison to what rose got
I loved bill, she was incredible and needed more, but like, Clara, I know she isn't super popular, but I love her, they should have left her out of hell bent, it was so unsatisfying
Clara I think improved as companion to Capaldi's doctor. The "You clever boy" thing (opposite Matt Smith) got a bit old after a time and her mysterious presence everywhere he went was more confusing than River, as for her, "backwards is forwards" time travelling and her past is the doctor's future etc - thought that was actually a good premise. And she STILL ended up in prison for murdering the Doctor....except she didn't...since as far as I can tell is was the machine/robot thing from the beginning. The first time....and the second time. The impossible astronaut girl (is that River?) and the Doctor's Daughter deserve better. Georgia Moffatt would make a perfect companion to the Doctor - she's his daughter!.
Rose never departed. She keeps coming back & I don't know how. She is annoying, rude, very loud, possessive & self centered. Here's what you need to know about Rose. Rose: Can't you come through properly? The Doctor: I can't. If I did other universes, other planets & other people could be put in serious jeopardy. Rose:So?
i don’t think they’re much on big finish either. ellie herself has admitted in a video - in which they had the sixth doctor as being a big dw controversy - that she’s not as big into classic who or big finish. she’s also featured in a video where she’s talking about whether or not the doctor should be in a romantic relationship with companions and flat out says she’ll always defend river. so she excuses it with river, says it’s okay with rose “because it’s something new”, but then says otherwise “it’s too much”. in their own videos, they’ve often revealed their own biases. so… you do the math.

I think Donna deserves a proper sendoff after the 60th. Also I kinda feel bad for Amy and Rory's ending. While yes they did end up together and die peacefully, it would've been nice if they left at the end of The Power Of Three.
Bill is my second favourite companion she was absolutely brilliant
The saddest thing about Sara Kingdom is that even the Doctor commented "What a waste.".
- She still survived in her last second of life--
- OH WELL THAT'S ALRIGHT THEN
Even before the cyber conversion Bill had to deal with sacrificing Earth to save the Doctor, living in that hellscape and then believing that the Doctor was turned and against her.
Mickey got Martha in the end. Doesn't get much happier than that.
Always thought that was a bit cheap. Sure they've spend a lot of time together, but we barely see anything of it. So in the show it came off like: "Oh those characters who didn't get their love? Uhm, guess what, they're married now"
But after all I think they're happy, yeah:D
Indeed. It also deep-sixed any chance of a 2022 return.
Rose had a perfectly good exit ,several in fact 🤣🤣. Adrics was fine too. A heroes exit. What more could he ask
Martha Jones and Mickey Smith I feel kinda need to return atleast 1 or 2 more times in this current era we're in, she's really underrated and deserves a second chance
I'd live to see Mickey and Martha again.
@@Lordoftheapes79 Actor who played Mickey is in a bit of a pickle unfortunately.
@@Peteroranje what happened?
@@w33shy26 well um hmm not something i wanted to know, has 20 sexual assault allegations against him but kinda not as they were dropped for not enough evidence, idk how 20 gets dropped like that
@@kenziuwu3531 oh wow, yea gosh that's a lot, hope it ain't true, but who knows?
Bill deserved a longer run than a single season.
Could have easily had another season with 12 and Bill. Certainly much better team than the "fam".
In my opinion Nardole, too.^^
The Donna conundrum: would you rather have a winning lottery ticket, or continue travelling with the Doctor WITHOUT the risk of your head exploding?
NGL, the ticket for real.
There Doctor ❤
Hopefully, in the 60th anniversary, Donna will get a better ending.
Katarina is also killed in the Dalek's Master plan, being sucked out into space. She was very short lived but a fair bit worse off than Rose or Martha
Yes, I'm surprised she isn't here. I read about her only yesterday and came here hoping to see that clip.
I think bill did have the worst experience
Katarina got sucked out of an airlock and into space!
Martha merely left an unrequited relationship.
No comparison.
People don't realise that every season of the doctor is just like the story of Icarus. You fly too close to the sun, you will burn.
Bill is my favorite companion and it always made me so mad when she gets turned into a cyberman. She deserved so much more
Bill ended up with Heather... I'd take that ending!
Are you talking about the Hartnells?
@@christophermoore614 No - I was talking about Bill Potts and the character of Heather who she went off to explore the universe with! Interesting coincidence (if it is) about the "other" Bill & Heather!
@@johna5635 And I was making a joke. Perhaps I ought to work on my material (or my audience).
Thing is... you've made me think that the Bill & Heather name choices actually may be a sly reference that I'd never spotted! When fans run a show, you never know what's a subtle call-back!!!
Actually, wasn't Jamie's final appearance in The Two Doctors?
I'm 60 now and all I could ever think of was will that button pop on Peri's top, That was 40 years ago.
the worst part about bill dieing is that the doctor was only a few hours late meaning if he had of prematurely ended one of his conversations bill would've survived.
Hopefully they all will get that some day, including Clara, I feel like we will see her again one day, since she is the impossible girl after all
She's dead
@@williammacdonald3173 Technically she is, but she also has the power to run from it forever.
Nahh they done Bill dirty with that thumbnail 💀💀

!!! Oh wow. Looks like the dude made a reddit post about this 👀
Sara also played Bavmorda in Willow.
And Rose, in Upstairs, Downstairs.
Bill Potts was a superb character played by a super actress.
Tenure is far too short
My fez deserved better!
🤣🤣🤣
Dodo, Ben and Polly didn't get perfect exits i feel, Dodo departs half way through a story, passing on her goodbyes through Ben and Polly, Ben and Polly disappear two episodes into their final adventure, returning for a pre-filmed scene deciding to leave now they're back home
It was cos Innes Lloyd didn’t give a monkeys about the show and didn’t want the gig
Thank you for addressing what happened to Adric and Peri as well as Bill.
As if rose is number 3 like bruh she got what she wanted so In terms of this video
You could be aged to death and that's fine I guess but given your own doctor and able to live your life with him yeah far worse
I believe that the Time Lords erased Jamie and Zoe's memories of their _continuing adventures_ with the Doctor, but they _would_ remember their very first "only" interaction with him: effectively they were dropped off at a point just before they went on to the TARDIS as companions.
You are correct, they were returned to the point after their 1st meeting so they do have the memory of their initial adventure.
I think #11 would be Dodo Chaplet - comes in with a distinctive accent and attitude, which are immediately deleted by the BBC because they were old; gets hypnotized halfway through The War Machines and is never seen again, not even a goodbye scene.
Nah. K-9.
@@Lordoftheapes79 Maybe? Three of them end up helping departed companions, and the fourth got a show named after him. Dodo just went POOF.
Please can you do more top 10 lists love them
Blimey, I had thankfully and mercifully forgotten about Adric. I'll now have nightmares for weeks.
in the the new series, companions tend to leave is a way that says they can't come back. In the old series, they left to marry a man thy just met.
@@taliesinllanfair4338 Arcs or more commonly Serials.
Sure, strangulation on month one is a huge dealbreaker for a companion-
But Six saved her life and the day in that very same story- and althohgh he was difficult- he more then made up for it by continuing to allow her to stay aboard The Tardis and well... being friends with her.
Also while yes Sarah Kingdom did follow the Doctor out, she died trying to save him after he was knocked unconscious using the Time Destroyer.
Huge fan of Dr. Liz Shaw 👍🎬😎
I don't want to nitpick but I watched trial of a timelord recently 6 didn't betray Peri he was taken out of time by the timelords and she was captured resulting in the events that led to her "death.".
That is an unfortunate thumbnail 😂😂😂
Martha Jones is intelligent and gorgeous the doctor must be mad for not calling her.
PLEASE! Disney/BBC give Martha and Mickey (M&M) they're own series ❤️❤️❤️
No chance with the controversy around Noel Clark.
@@timidwolf Also for Disney there is only one Mickey...
Thank I’ve always said bill was killed almost every episode 😂
Rory certainly was.
9:25 Bill Potts was not a normal university student in the beginning, she worked in the cafeteria servicing chips (fries) and snuck into The Doctor’s classes. If you are going to speak with authority, be correct
Katarina should be #1, killed by an airlock after something like 5 or 6 episodes. She deserved better.
#1 companion that deserves better, Pete. Erased from the space time continuemum when Bill step on a butterfly during the last Thames Frost Fare
Errrr. The 5 Doctors wasn't the final appearance for Jamie! He was in The Two Doctors which was a Colin Baker era story...
Yes, but we’re talking about him and Zoe as a duo here, as specified in the video!
Donna and Bill. Brutal.
let's be fair. Mickey and Martha both grew very strong from their time with the Doctor and they did end up marrying each other (happily, it appears) and becoming alien hunters.
I agree with all your picks but would also include Dodo. What a disappointing departure for her!!!
Agreed and this is from someone that didn't care for the character
Great shout!
Jackie Lane never forgave Innes Lloyd for sending her off without even a goodbye scene.
@@ericreese7792 agreed. It always seemed odd.
The death of Adric could have been the DNA bost for the start of humans on earth. His DNA was added to the mix on earth.
Um... 'Medieval' Scotland???
medieval and enlightenment are basically the same thing. No? 😋
Wasn’t there an early companion (1960s) who was flushed out of an air lock with the villain?
Katarina from Dalek's master plan.
Such a shame that Sarah ageing into dust scene is missing - imagine the memes we could have made from it!
There's some discrepancies regarding character histories here (along with Rose needing to be switched with Rory), but yes: #JusticeForBill
Why is rose on this list at all.
You literally say actually it did end well for her.
Cuz it did 😂.
Rory and bill
They hard it worst
Rory died multiple times
Had to wait and guard for 2000 years
Bill had to wait for the doctor to save her
But got turned into cyberman
Atleast she turned into an intelligent fuel
Yo! was that Lucifer w/ Martha?
Not an Adric hater. That last episode of Earthshock really pulled on the heartstrings. Silent and just the remains of his Badge for Mathematical Excellence on the screen, after using it to kill a cyberman. To me that is one of the most moving and poignant moments in all of Doctor Who.
What really hammered the moment as one of the most moving was it affected Tegan and Nyssa so much that they decided to leave, as well.
@@GabePuratekuta very true
Actually Adric shined better than many episodes in Earthshock. Why couldn't he have been like this more? I sometimes felt he actually got on better with the 4th Doctor in his last few stories.
@@IAmPegasus I noticed that as well. He should've left when the Doctor regenerated but I'm guessing he couldn't since he's from E-space in normal space and it would've taken him so long to get back there.
Didn't one get shot out into space?
This list was so ass. 😂 Donna should've been #1 no questions asked. Bill got immortality alongside a girl she loved. Mickey got to see his gran gran again and ended up with Martha. Martha became a hero. Rose ended up with a doctor who would grow old beside her. What show were you guys watching? Lmfao
First fewer :)
I love your channel so much ❤️
🎉🎉🎉
Omg u guys commented tysm 🙏🙏
I like k9 and Romana
OI WHAT ABOUT ROY AND AMY HUH. They were the family the doctor loved and needed
Bill was one of my fav NuWho companions
Tenant may revisit old companions to close up these unanswered ends we as the audience have debated about since the 60s across all the timelines since he's coming back as the 14th doctor this will open alot of avenues were
Wish Bill was in the show longer
I never think of sara kingdom as a companion. she was in one story. Even the brigadier isn't considered a 'proper' companion, so why is she?
She travelled in the TARDIS. Though that would negate Liz Shaw.
Donna Noble should be number one on this list.
Where is Rory? He was mistreated by Amy a ton and he definitely deserved better!!
I was expecting to see Mel
Rose never departed. She keeps coming back & I don't know how. She is annoying, rude, very loud, possessive & self centered. Here's what you need to know about Rose. Rose: Can't you come through properly? The Doctor: I can't. If I did other universes, other planets & other people could be put in serious jeopardy. Rose:So?
Six didn’t betray Peri. The Valeyard tampered with the Matrix testimony, while the Time Lords prevented the Doctor from saving her.
They don’t actually watch classic who here. They just read the wiki. There’s actually a reddit post about it now
i don’t think they’re much on big finish either. ellie herself has admitted in a video - in which they had the sixth doctor as being a big dw controversy - that she’s not as big into classic who or big finish. she’s also featured in a video where she’s talking about whether or not the doctor should be in a romantic relationship with companions and flat out says she’ll always defend river. so she excuses it with river, says it’s okay with rose “because it’s something new”, but then says otherwise “it’s too much”. in their own videos, they’ve often revealed their own biases. so… you do the math.
