I definitely get what you mean when you say units can't be distinguished. Just now I was plying the campaign and for a moment I couldn't find Arkantos (yes I know I can use the hero icon), and when he uses his war cry I can't tell units apart anymore. However, I'm feeling pretty positive, they seem to be listening to feedbacks
2) Gaia's lush could use some rework, with full graphics it looks too veiny and distracting sometimes. 3) Yes, I tihink saturated blue water color was one of the trademarks of AoM, 4) I do want cadavers. In original game decaying bodies looked weird too. I think warcraft3 and aoe2 did it best 5) I do mix Achilles with Hippeus alot but I dont like the idea of making heroes 1 size bigger. Many games do it and the game suddenly starts to look like chessboard, nope.. not needed. 7) I agree on myth unit sizes. Minotaur is too big, Cyclops is too small, Wadjet looks too massive for a glasscannon. I got few things to add: Phoenix is I think a bit too big too. Spam 3 of them and entire screen is gone! Annubite walking animation looks too sassy, Mountain Giant attack animation looks sluggish, Golden Boar metal sound is missing I think. Also in old game I think throw animations were slightly better for Cyclops, Minotaur etc. Jotun upgrade makes Mountain Giants really big but thats just same model but bigger, wish there was something else like new Flame Giant model. Scarab deadth animation aoe particle effect is bonkers.. just a giant 3D purple textureless ball really? Also I'm not liking the new skill of Centaur, looks cheap and feels cheap. Einherjar skill effect duration is too short, maybe additional 0.5 sec would justify. I could really write two times more but gotta stop somewhere I think. Greaty video!
Thanks a lot for your comment. I believe most of the old AoM player have the same feelings about the same stuff. I got your point for the hero, but I still think Polyphemus should look way bigger :D. I agree so much with the Centaur special ability, looks so underwhelming, but I still appreciate game designers to try new things!
Retold uses the same motor than AOE3DE, so I think some mods will come out post launch. As for the portraits, If you have the deluxe edition, you will have a mod that changes the portraits to the original ones in ultra HD (I'm 100% having it because I don't like that Groot redisign of Gaia)
If I remember well, AoE3 engine is AoM engine with improvement (called Bang Engine). Retold will also use Bang Engine :) Btw, I would also prefer Gaia to be a "bit more human", but i appreciate the intention of making her design more specific.
You're totally right ! I hope they will make this option possible. But, I guess they might want to create a new campaign and don't have access to the same voice actor anymore, so they just pick a new one to have an overall coherence.
fortunately they decided to change the portraits for real artists, all the primary gods were redone and they look great and hand painted.
