Excellent job Alex in explaining how to attain a proper grip! I am always working on the cocking and uncocking of my wrists to keep them attuned to their role in the golf swing. I didn't know about your "hammer demonstration" and the neutral grip to show weakness! Well Done Alex!!! I learned something new today!
I just recently picked up playing golf. And I have to say, since finding your videos, everything you’ve been showing has helped me at the tee. I’m struggling with the short game side of things right now. I’d love to see some pointers on that, and suggestions on setting up for putting.
Great video. I had a lesson last week and was struggling with balls going left and right. My coach shifted my grip from strong to neutral and it made a huge difference in my ball striking. Feels odd but I’m keeping at it. I think this drill will help with reminding me on the tee. 👍🏻🏌️♀️
Grip is an interesting part of the swing for sure. I notice a lot of pros set up to the ball with their right hand on the club and then they sort of slide the left hand into place. Wondering if that is a benefit to alignment of the club??
I watched a lot of golf this weekend (the PGA, LPGA) and I noticed a lot of players grip the club from UNDERNEATH with their right hand (in the fingers) 😳 … the then curl their hand on top of the club. Now, another issue … I watched a Malaska video and he talked about the “levers” of the hands and arms (not so much body) in the downswing. So today, I tried SLINGING the club … tried to allow my hands to win the race to the ball before your right shoulder. I thought it would feel weak, but I hit some powerful shots. Really have to focus on slowing the right shoulder down until AFTER impact. Your thoughts? 🤔 I had a tendency to try to restrict my hands & wrists in an effort to square the face. But I find I need to “let it go”, and SLING it ☝🏻
This is the slingshot effect and is a requirement for distance so great job! Good luck describing this to your mates. I did a demonstration where I was showing my mates that I could easily pull 150 yards out of my pitching wedge and send it right down the middle using this slingshot effect with only a half swing.
Alex I love your videos!!! after working on the tips you give, I played one of my best rounds after 1 driving range practice... Thank you so much and keep up the good work.
Thanks Alex, this is brilliant stuff! Similar to marcg1964’s comment I think….for a Driver the shaft is more or less perpendicular to the body, but for irons there is more shaft lean involved in the set up. So….is the leading hand neutral grip to be applied with the club grip at the angle of the shaft lean….or is the neutral grip taken with the iron perpendicular, and then the shaft lean applied? (Hard to explain!…but might be rather crucial as taking the grip when the lean is already established is surely more likely to present the face optimally to the ball at impact?). Grateful for any advice or video on this. Thanks
Thanks Alex, I needed that & I’ll be trying it out tonight. I think I have a strong grip but still hitting it with fade, what do you think I need to change here? Driver settings are neutral with upward lie angle. Thanks
Great video I have a question when you are hinging the club up and down with the neutral grip do you find that the heel pad rubs against the grip and there is a certain amount of wear in that heel area of your glove - or am I doing it wrong?
Thanks Alex, having nightmare with putter just now. Hit 16/18 greens but 40 putts. If been lake next to 18th green would have needed to get new putter😩
I will test next time as my drive is all over the place - if i aim left (feet and shoulders) then it goes left and if i aim down the middle the drive goes way rights - Ive always had a natural fade but find it's speed swing - confused most of the time
Quick question, I had my clubs fitting and purchased at my local club. When they returned it took a couple of rounds before I thought I need a lesson as the were a bit offset compared to my old clubs, the pro immediately focused on my grip changing it to a more neutral position so now the fitting of new clubs are nothing like they should be. So my question is should the fitting process incorporated a look at my grip before a full fitting as my clubs need to be returned to ping for re adjusting?
I have seen a lot of bad golfer's with a poor grip, Neve seen a good golfer with a bad grip, by the way has anyone tried a left hand fore finger as your Vardon grip ,, like a lot of people use as there putting grip ?? I tried it lately and shot level par in killens Killarney 😀
Hi alex, ive been struggling with a strong grip for a couple of weeks now but im going to try the hammer, i like to hit a drawer so would it still be 2 and a half knuckles? Thanks
As a former PGA Class A Teaching Professional I can tell you that probably 90% of golfers have a grip that's too weak and too much in the palm! If you make a mistake with your grip, make it too much in the fingers and on the strong side!! Thank me later!
Alex, how can you tell how much grip pressure you need to hold the club. I notice when I have a light grip, it releases easier. Do you have a video on this?
hello I am now my third season playing with a built set of clubs (used) , Callaway x-hot 9.5 driver and 3 fairway wood both 2013 , additionally a set of cobra amp cell irons (cavity back 2013 ish stiff flex , I Have e never been fitted but am booked in and also an 8-10 handicap currently, I strike 4-pw and a gap wedge well but am going lower in my handicap , id like more distance and higher ball speed / approach angles from a set of irons . What would you recommend ? 41 yr old male active golfer 3-5 times a week ?
Yesterday I was constantly topping and hitting grounders(not sure if that’s what it’s called)to the left. The worst I’ve played since my first time on a course 😅
i broke my 9 iron..had to grab my old MP-33 9 iron from the set in the cellar. They were THE most beautiful clubs of thier day. My swing doesn't allow me to play them anymore.
How do I make sure I am set up to the ball every time with the correct distance from the ball and where is my shaft to be at address from pitching wedge to the driver
My son has this grip…..one drive he hits it 295+ down the fairway……the next three drives he snap hooks it. I have shown him videos like this showing him why he snap hooks it. He tries to change his grip but hits a few shots, doesn’t like the feel and immediately goes back. Changing the grip is such a huge feel issue that it takes a lot of practice to develop a new feel. My son has so many interest other than golf that he is not interested in putting in the time to practice. Too bad, that change could knock off 6-7 strokes a round
I don't get the gist of this hammer force up and down...I want to drive the ball out and up. Please show how to increase force along the swing path to drive the ball away from me and towards the target....
@@AlexElliottGolf yeah this helped massively for my glove hand! I can never get my right hand to feel comfortable, it always feels like it’s twisted or out of position
“Weak…hard to get it up” - that’s what she said 😂🤣😂 Just kidding. Great video. My grip may be a bit strong according to this drill. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 I love the “diagonal tell” that hammering shows.

This was literally a video about setting up for putting.
My grip has changed because of you 😂 thank you coach. Double overlap video change everything for me. Thanks a lot

It's funny, you always address the questions my friends and I discuss during our weekly round. Great content!!! Thank you.

My mates still couldn't recreate it now matter how slowly I showed them. Some things I guess just require the light bulb moment

I will try and cover this in another video 🙌🏼🙌🏼
I would love to see how shaft angle/lean relates to clubhead direction, and how to prevent the angle from pushing shots and slicing.
Great question!!! I have you covered

more of a neautral grip i would say
Thanks for this vid, I would like to see how you load (or stress) the shaft and then how and when to have it unload or release (for a driver)
I will try and cover this in another video 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Great little check right here, thanks for the upload mate. Wonder if this will work for cackhanded players
Thank you for sharing this! I’ve been positioning my grip wrong!
Glad it was helpful!
Hi Alex another brilliant video could you do a video on stack & tilt & are there advantages to this method for senior golfers
I will try and cover this in another video 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Would love to see a video on how to stop casting/early extension.
Like your take on the True Swing by Ernest Jones and maybe you can do his towel drill. Thanks.

Alex I love this channel, you are Sooo helpful. Thank You.
You're so welcome!
Sir Alex Elliot, Nobel prize winning nominee and science laureate! Add that to your credentials 🤘
Mike here from Wisconsin, I got rid of my bad habits after watching your video, immediately cut 10 strokes off my card Sunday
Love that Mike!!! Thank you for reporting back!
Thanks Alex, having nightmare with putter just now. Hit 16/18 greens but 40 putts. If been lake next to 18th green would have needed to get new putter😩
i will try and show some putting drills now the weather has improved
Hi Alex tried this today on the course & dropped 3shots off my h/cap excellent method & so easy to incorporate into pre shot routine 👍🏌️♂️⛳️
love this !!!

Hi Alex, are you planning on replacing one of the Hemsworth brothers? Nice tip, thank you.

I'm playing 9 tomorrow, I will be doing the hammer drill.
very
interesting thanks
Anyone else notice that Alex's weak slicey shot was still better than 95% of our drives. FeelsBadMan 😢
I have tried many times to correct my way-too-strong grip, but I feel like I lose power and distance
Yesterday I was constantly topping and hitting grounders(not sure if that’s what it’s called)to the left. The worst I’ve played since my first time on a course 😅
I hope this helps
I like that . Thanks

I’m never quite sure what to do with my right hand, it just never feels comfortable.
Does this help you? If not let me know and I can make another video to help!
@@AlexElliottGolf yeah this helped massively for my glove hand! I can never get my right hand to feel comfortable, it always feels like it’s twisted or out of position
Just watched your latest video, that was a massive help
👌⛳️
Thanks Jack!!
What about the right hand? I see PGA players constantly adjusting their RIGHT hand just before driving the ball
Yup, what about the right hand 🤔
I will try and cover this in another video 🙌🏼🙌🏼
